Damn good value and this Islay scotch isn't bad for the price! I have two on my bar! As an Islay peat whisky lover I couldn't resist! Terrific video! Cheers! 🙂
Hello Mark, good to see you whisky vlogging again. Bought this in Edmonton Costco for less than C$60. At this price value for money and a nice smoky dram. Nothing too much wrong with this one. All the best to you and your family.
Another Edmonton boy here and got it at the airport Costco when I happened to be in the area and had an hour to kill. The 50% abv is what caught my eye (I prefer 46% and above) and I decided to give it a shot. Cracked it open that night after dinner and found it very drinkable, good body, some oiliness, as well as firm but gentle peat. Had to go back and buy another two bottles. Cheers!
@@WhiskyWhistle Oops, forgot to mention it but the very same Edmonton Costco price of C$60. In fact, during the past year or so I have been fortunate to find, on sale, for the same price Ardbeg 'Wee Beastie' 5, North Star Caol Ila 8, Scarabus Batch Strength Islay Single Malt, Armorik Double Maturation (France), South Star Highland 10 (secretly a Blair Athol), and Old Perth Cask Strength. Aren't sales fun!!!
Good to see you, I hope you are well! Great to have the extra information on the bottle. I wish we had it too. I've had a sample, but not a bottle. I enjoyed it, I would agree, for an Islay, it was approachable. Cheers!
Hi @Geraldguila4374 -For that price it’s a great value. It’d be a regular for me too. Too bad about the caramel colour. It’s the only real con for this bottle. Cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃 Mark
Hi @mrq9121 I definitely will, but one thing is I have only two of them. Also at present I’m in South Korea and haven’t brought all my glassware yet. Cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃
Greetings. I bought that Kirkland bottle last year here in California for $36. I think it’s excellent value at that price & I ended up buying two more backups. I also had other sourced Islay whiskeys to compare (like Scarabus & Port Askaig) & the Kirkland held its own. Cheers.
Hello - wow great price! Scarabus I found richer maybe due to the virgin oak. port Askaig def in the ballpark. Try Big Peat? Peats Beast also very good. I think blended Islay have great value under $60 USD. Wish I got this bottle for $36!! Cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃
Shocked to hear that Costco is overcharging their Korean customers nearly 3X its US prices. I did love the additional transparency on the Korean bottling though. The whisky out of my bottle is Pale Straw in color (indicating natural color) for one and very heavily peated (batch variation perhaps). Which is why it did not taste or smell like Caol Ila. It is however a little jagged and young and I find myself making mean Penicillin cocktails with this bottle. Cheers.
Sorta but not really? Though they both may be Caol Ila so you’re right in that sense. Scarabus of course casks chosen by different company with different goals and then finished in virgin oak. Cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃
Yes, they use peat smoke to dry the malted barley which is a tradition on the island called Islay where it is from. Funnily this one is less smoky compared to the rest of them with one or two exceptions! Keep it on the shelf for brave friends to watch their reaction!! Cheers🥃🥃🥃🥃
Back in the saddle. Welcome back Mark!
Thanks. It feels good!

@@WhiskyWhistle let me know!
It's $39USD in NJ if I remember right. I agree it's probably Caol Ila.
