Paul please you need to research before you purchase pets. I’ve kept axolotls for years and can tell you’ve done little research. You need a ton more hides, plants, things to interact with and climb on. Especially because you have hardly any cover the light should remain off, axolotls are very easily stressed by lights and their usage should be kept to a minimum. The hob filter is also far too strong and needs to be baffled, constant heavy flow will result in high stress. You live in Florida where it’s hot, axolotls do best between 62-66 F with anything above 68 being in the high stress range and will result in a very sick or dead axolotl. YOU NEEED A CHILLER OR A FAN TO KEEP THIS TANK COLD. Fluctuations in temperature can result in fungus and once again a sick axolotl. Earthworms are the best diet for adults, fed every 2 days. Bloodworms and blackworms are more of a supplementary food or treat as once they have reached maturity there is minimal nutritional value. PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT ADD ANY OTHER FISH TO THAT AQUARIUM. Cories are bottom feeders and invade the axies personal space, they have very sharp barbels that can scrape the axolotls skin or should the axie try to eat it they will get lodged in its throat and kill it. Plecos are notorious for sucking the slime coat off axolotls and causing huge welts on their body, bristlenose plecos (which people often get cause they’re smaller) pose the same threat as cories with their sharp barbs with the added risk of removing the axolotl slime coat. Any other species of fish will nip their gills to oblivion. Axies should be kept by themselves and that’s that Please Paul for the last time on behalf of the entire pet community, DO YOUR RESEARCH AND DO YOUR PART FOR THESE ANIMALS BY PROMOTING PROPER CARE
1. The hob filter is too strong. 2. Pls add more plants and hides. 3. Pls get a chiller. 4. pls do not add any fish in the tank. 5. Pls do more research on them. 6. Keep up the good job, love ur vids.
@@lustgas3440 he's just telling him information, if you're going to get an animal you're gonna need the actual right information to house and keep them healthy
Don't want to criticize Paul love Ur vids. I have axolotl and I want to give you some tips. Please no light. There eyes are sensitive. Make sure sand is very fine as they sometimes can accidentally eat it and it hurts there digestive track. Also keep water very cool. And please don't touch the axolotl there skin is very sensitive. Don't get any other fish with it Not even any feeder fish as they nip at their gills. I would suggest earthworms as food. It is the best and most nutritious. And also they like a low current flow from the filter. Thanks Paul plz take advice. Great work. Love your vids.
•The bloodworms are not staple food.U need to feed earthworms as their main diet •Your fast water flows will stress out ur axie & will soon burn the gills •Your aquarium is a lil bit too high for ur axolotl to come up and breathe. And yes,he will find it hard to come up bc of the water flow. •Your aquarium is too small and needs more caves or tunnels and plants(moss ball possibly). •They have a very weak vision and they loves darkness.
Your sand is not fine enough. Your axolotl will get impacted. He also needs more floor space, a 20 long would be FAR better. Listen to all your comments. Having an axolotl is very stressful especially living in Florida bc their water tempersture should stay below 70 actually ideally 62-65. You should invest in a fan or chiller which can be expensive but necessary. They don't like light and I would even say turn it off all the time. As for feeding FEED LIVE EARTHWORMS. That's what they like best. And no other fish in the axolotl tank!!!! SERIOUSLY.
Your cousin died long before you wrote this comment and I hate to say it, but he suffered immensely during his very short time at Pauls. Sadly there is no animal welfare to be found on this channel
I have a pleco and he is amazing. They are great low maintenance fish. Currently, he doesn’t have tankmates, but he will soon. He even eats fish food from the top!
Ok the misinformation here is uh scary. One you do not NEED a chiller. You need a temperature and its low 60s to high 60s and they do not die instantly for being in higher or lower temperatures they just need consistency like all animals. Mine have lived their whole lives in 65-70 degree water. And I use an aquarium fan to maintain that temperature since it is quite cool in the basement they are located in.
No chiller, not even a thermometer to know what temp he dropped it in and again no cycling the tank...I just can't anymore. All for views, doesn't care about the animals. Loved him at first, now he is just a really bad role model. Kids are going to do the same crap...
@@nancyx25 Sorry I cringed 15 seconds into the video when I saw him touch it and had to read comments to prepare myself first. Im not sure Im prepared for this horror movie
Just as a tip never put small rocks in the tank I have an axolotl and know that they will accidentally eat the rocks And don’t put fish in their that they can fit in their mouth because it will try to eat the fish
I would want fish in my 29 gallon tank but my axolotl needs to be by itself for awhile because it is still pretty young and young axolotl tend to be cannibalistic
Please don’t get a pleco, axolotls don’t like them & they can hurt the axolotl. Also you may need a chiller, they need to be kept at low 60’s preferably about 64.
My reading class and I just watched your video and we are loving your pets and your presentations! Thanks for the being so cool and for the information on axolotls! Peace!
Your reading class??? You're a teacher and you let them watch this animal mistreating garbage. Shame on you. Do some research, educate yourself and do better
I live in Australia and I have 3 axolotls, the way the axolotls are treated in the breeder is horrible when I got mine they were looked after perfectly and weren’t kept in a small tank Here’s what you should do -remove the lights ( can cause stress ) -add not hiding spots as they fell can hide and feel less stressed -try not to take it out of water too much and reduce touching it as you can rub off its slime coat -the 2 filters are way too powerful and may stress your axie
the axolotl its a mexican name for the water salamander.... so why not a mexican name..... ..."""""TLALOC"""" “god of the rain” ....Tlaloc its an aztec god who controls a gives the blesing of rain..... the aztecs speaks in NAHUATL..... and The word axolotl, also written axolotl, comes from the Nahuatl axolotl, formed of xolotl (monster as in turkey) and atl (water, as in atole). It refers to an amphibious animal that has a body of fish and frog legs.
EVERY ONE PLEASE TELL HIM.....NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FISHESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.......NOOOOOOOOO FISHESSSSSSSSS.... more hideouts......... more plants..... axolotlssssss are not fishes............ you cant treat him like one............. DO RESEARCHHHHH
I really hope you cycled that tank first, you should probably add pants for it to hide in as well and having any fish in the tank with it is a horrible idea. Just a fellow axie owner tryna share some more info. 😊
@@luka.brammy he said "a couple of days" it can take a month or more to properly cycle a tank. That lotl can and likely qill get really sick in that tank.
Tip: don’t ever get it out of the water, they are fully aquatic animals and it can harm it if it’s out of the water even for a short amount of time. Also, I would recommend a longer tank since they mostly stay along the bottom of the tank, and more plants and feed them earth worms ( blood worms are not as nutritious as earthworms)
Mine started growing into a full lizard and I had to force it to stay in the water! It eventually died I'm not sure why but I think it's because the gills were sick because I can't see them anymore. I'm kidding lol
You need a chiller for him because they die if water is upper than 65 degres. Btw keep up the great work! 🤩 Love from Serbia 🇷🇸 OMG thanks for the likes i never got this many 🤛🇷🇸
Axolotls don’t really like a lot of water movement and u need a chiller because axolotls require a cold temperature tank also don’t add a pleco or any type of fish as fish damage their slime coats
What’s wrong with him stating what it’s best for the axolotl? It’s not all about looks, it’s about the axolotl well being too. Why buy an animal if you ain’t gon take good care of it 🤷🏻♀️
I vote “no” on pleco or any other fish for that tank. Keep it axolotl only. Safer for the axie as they have very sensitive skin and outer gills that can be nibbled by other fish.
Not trying to be rude but the sigh said only Cory cats and pleco for a reason they don’t nibble on skin but still I agree to keep in axe only just to be safe
The sign is wrong. Just because a pet shop sells an animal doesn't mean they know how to care for one. Often they lie just to get an animal sold or they are misinformed
most things are not safe to be in tanks with axies and you have to be careful with what plants they have too, mainly the java species and anubis species and the only animal i keep with my baby is ghost shrimp, which often become a snack for him
Sasha Grahovac both cory cats and plecos are bottom dwellers. They’ll compete with the axie for space. Most pleco gets huuuuge too. If Paul’s tank is 5x longer, it “might” work, but it’s still not recommended.
Lexi Cook I have vallisneria and cryptocoryne planted in my axie tank. They’re both sturdy and hardy, surviving even if she plops on top of the plants.
I don't know how I stumbled onto your channel, but I'm glad I did! What really impressed me the most was the fact that you had a special cooler to keep your supplies in. You have a nice place and I really was impressed by the built in tank. Can't wait to see some more videos. The subject matter doesn't have to be about fish. I never know what new things I will appreciate.
Drip acclimation is the way to go with a new aquatic pet. You can do a version of it without needing a complicated tube setup, this is what I used to do -- NEVER just slide them in. EVER. Water is a lot more dense than air, it's tough for us to understand how extreme of a change it is to them, but it can be more intense than being instantly transported from the top of Mount Everest with a -30 degree temperature into the Sahara Desert at over 100. Just like us, they can adapt to a range of temperatures and conditions, but we need to give them time. There's also the matter of water pH differences, ammonia/nitrate levels, chemical composition of the water in general ... it is not just temperature, so many people think it is, but it isn't. At least you did some form of temperature acclimation, but that's still not enough. They just weren't designed to be randomly plopped into a strange pool of water miles away, it's a HUUUUUGE shock to their systems. Inexperienced aquarists have their pets live through such an inept relocation in SPITE of it, but plenty die just from transport alone. So, here's how to do a sort of "cheat" way of drip acclimation (it's not optimal, but it sure as shit is better than nothing) and make it safer and less stressful on them without a huge tube setup -- roll the top of that long bag down like a tube sock, creating a little pocket of air. Let the baggy float on the surface of the water (the pocket of air from the bag folding will let that work), without giving the animal inside a chance to squirm out. Every 7-10 minutes, take a little aquarium syringe (every hobbyist should own at least one, it's mandatory, but a baster will work in a pinch) and take out a tiny quantity of water, maybe a teaspoon or two, and discard it from the baggy the animal is in (not the aquarium itself, you want to minimize exposure to the pet store water in your little habitat -- I mean, take the water out of the bag, and THROW IT AWAY). Then, take about the same amount of water from the aquarium and drop it inside the bag with the critter. Do that for at least an hour, THEN let them out. Also, that's a brand new tank, it's not cycled. They do sell a few products now that let you shortcut cycling. They used to be bunk, a lot of hobbyists still believe they are -- the only thing around for a while was essentially a fake product that did not work, so people just remember that and never bothered trying the newer products. There really are products available now that jump-start the ammonia-nitrate cycle for you, they actually work, only been around for about 15 years, I'd suggest looking into one any time you set up a new tank (it's certainly actually safer than say, something like the "shrimp" method, and more humane than buying a cycle fish to do the work for you because its species is supposed to be hardy enough). It looks like you took NO procedure to develop a good bacteria colony, however, which is alarming. Ammonia buildup in that water is going to burn the poor guy's flesh like acid. I hope he lives through it long enough for the bacteria to grow. Third -- WAY TOO SMALL. I know he was in a smaller container in the store, but that's meant to be temporary, not a home. It should be double that volume at a minimum. I really wish these pet stores would stop selling to people without making sure they pass an Aquarium 101 quiz first or something. Good call on the sponge filter, though it's a bit too big and powerful (it's a little like having a jet engine attached to the back of your car, in this scenario, it's probably going to stress him out -- too much). About a sponge filter in general, though ... I would've made a choice for a sponge filter in this scenario, too. They're long-lasting and the sponge can be used for a very long time if you're willing to dip in every week or two and squeeze it out (never with tap water, take a bit of aquarium water to do it in, as it can't get dry once the bacteria start growing in it). It also is very current-neutral for slower-moving aquatic pets, like bettas and stuff, and helps with oxygenation by doing double duty as a bubbler.

i really do recommend some plants and dark shady spots and a lid. axolotls can leap out of their tank, i would also move the tank away from the tv cause sound can travel and it could potentially stress out the axolotl. do your research for their tanks!
You should get a snowball pleco, I think it would look dope. P.s. you’re an amazing youtuber, amazing content, and such an inspiration. Keep up the great work and positive attitude!!!
Plecos damage slime coats and it can seriously injure an Axolotl. Best to keep fish out of their tanks unless you are feeding it feeder fish(after researching what feeder fish are safe), Axolotls are strictly a species only animal
GDragon Kpop KING good information I didn’t know that I was just responding to his question in the video but hopefully someone gives him this information before he adds any fish to the aquarium!!!!
Idk too much, but I’m still learning about axolotls for if I get one. I think your tank needs: More space More hiding spots Darkness The three ingredients to an axolotl.
Space is just better for them, I’m currently studying animals in college and they don’t need a lot of space. It’s just better if you had a bigger tank. His tank is a perfect size but yes he needs more hiding spots
4th main ingredient is very low water flow... they stress out easily with regular filters cause the flow is too fast... a low flow filter is also quite expensive. For this setup, if only use the bubbler and not the filter. A turkey master is also a great little tool to have to pick up the poop as soon as you spot it 😎👍
Axolotls are really awesome pets, but there is a lot of misinformation out there about their care. Only other axies or maybe shrimp are good tankmates (as long as you don't get attached to the shrimp 🦐) Cold water is important, and no gravel or small rocks as they often end up swallowing then and then dying.
Jenn Baldvins I do Hawaiian red shrimps with mine. Great tank mates. And they’re pretty hardy; colder water doesn’t seem to bother them. (Though they also occasionally get eaten..)
Jenn Baldvins Well I have my own little tank/colony now, but originally I got them on internet. Afraid I don’t remember what site, but it was a breeder who specialized in small aquarium shrimp.
you can do substrate! but it should be very fine sand to avoid bowel obstructions, but wait till ur axie is about 4-6 inches long and avoid feeding toward the bottom of the tank since they are super clumsy and will get a mouth full of substrate if they miss the food they are going after.
I know this was two years ago, but if you still have that substrate get rid of it, thats the short blunt answer, i used that exact sand and he was swallowing it everytime i fed him, i moved to a finer sand and use topfin and caribsea (not live sand), never handle you axolotl out of water and never just slip him in the tank, about every week do about a 15-20% water change your parameters must be exact for the axolotl to survive, they will get fungus or burns from ammonia but congrats on your axolotl (ik its been 2 years)
Paul you should only pet in or let it crawl on your hand but it should always keep it in the water unless your cleaning the tank because they have a slime coat which protects them and it damages the coat when you take it out the water to hold it
1. That axolotl looks a bit unhealthy, I'm not sure if any of those axolotls were being properly taken care of at that store. The tanks they were in don't even look like 8 gallons. The first one you looked at looks like it was maybe a 5 or 3 gallon tank. 2. NEVER put a axolotl, or any water creature, into a tank right away! You need to put the axolotl/aquatic creature into a container/big bowl, with the water that the store provided you. Then take small amounts of water from the tank and start putting some in. After a while, then slowly put the axolotl into the tank along with the water it was in. 3. Make sure you don't have the lights on to much in there. They don't like lights, as you said, but even small LED lights can bother them. 4. That tank looks small, I find it hard to believe it's a 30 gallon one. Looks like a 12 gallon tank. Very sad to put creatures into very small homes. 5. For the love of god, if you did, or will, put another fish into the axolotls tank my heart will shatter. Lotls like to be on their own!
They also need more plants and some stones or small slate (Bigger than their head or they might try to eat it) Also I do agree that the Axolotl looks unhealthy.
Uh- I’m sorry to ruin some of this fun but I’m gonna make a list of what’s wrong here: don’t add any other fish, the apology may attack or the fish may attack, They need more plants to hide in, The tank is a bit too small, they need a 20 gallon tank, You need to get water conditioner if your gonna keep using tap water for the tank, I suggest seashem prime water conditioner, Now please read this if your looking for axolotl or getting a axolotl, you can ask any questions too!
@🐁 for baby’s the best is small shrimps. Like really small. For big guys they eat earth worms and nightcrawlers. For treats you can use frozen bloodworms and brown shrimp. Please correct me if I’m wrong
What I can suggest for your axo, bloodworms is not their main food, it's only a treat for them and there is no nutrients that they can get on it and also for the tank size, Axo like long tank rather the height and make sure lower the strength of your water flow, they get easy to be stress and can get sick if can't maintain a low temp. 16 - 18 degrees C are the ideal temperature for them
if you see it in more recent videos the gills are all withered :( poor axies. this is why i dont like paul cuffaro because im raising babies and axoltol health means the world to me. it hurts to see them in these conditions tbh

Axotlols need to be in a species only tank! Not even snails! And there should only be 1 axoltol in 20 gallons. You've got to do your own research, not just read a sign at the store. :(
This breaks my heart. You need to buy more places for it to hide. Also, DO NOT WHATSOEVER HOLD THEM! They have very very fragile slime coat that protects them. If you aren’t gonna care for him right give him away.
@@melamourrr yes! Are used to have an axolotl now I have a dragon. So what you’re gonna need is something for the bottom not something too small but also not something too big. Woah congrats on getting an Axolotl! But i recommend to add fake/plastic or live plants and maybe make the hid out a bit bigger also you can add big flat rocks. And maybe you can get the “greenery driftwood aquarium ornament” its pretty good!

Get more decorations for the axolotl tank. Real plants, driftwood or rocks will give the axolotl more cover and fill in the tank. A great name for the axolotl would be drake because it seems unreal and mythical similar to drakes from mythology. Otherwise you’re doing great Paul, Keep it up!
Tip: With clean water, cool temperatures and a healthy diet they can live for 15 years! The main causes of sickness in Axolotls are poor water quality and chronic stress. You should check your water parameters regularly. Poor water quality can lead to secondary infections from parasites or bacteria.

Make sure sand is very fine as they sometimes can accidentally eat it and it hurts there digestive track. Also keep water very cool. And please don't touch the axolotl there skin is very sensitive. Don't get any other fish with it
Not even any feeder fish as they nip at their gills. I would suggest earthworms as food. It is the best and most nutritious. And also they like a low current flow from the filter. Thanks Paul plz take advice. Great work. Love your vids.

Thank you for posting on my birthday! Plus this is AMAZING! Good luck bro
•The bloodworms are not staple food.U need to feed earthworms as their main diet
•Your fast water flows will stress out ur axie & will soon burn the gills
•Your aquarium is a lil bit too high for ur axolotl to come up and breathe. And yes,he will find it hard to come up bc of the water flow.
•Your aquarium is too small and needs more caves or tunnels and plants(moss ball possibly).
•They have a very weak vision and they loves darkness.
He dosent care he just wants one for declaration he is an asshat

@@Alwaysgrim I'd rather him get a shark and let him eat it, his family doesn't notice and then the shark gets released
Or he dies while scuba diving
Your sand is not fine enough. Your axolotl will get impacted. He also needs more floor space, a 20 long would be FAR better. Listen to all your comments. Having an axolotl is very stressful especially living in Florida bc their water tempersture should stay below 70 actually ideally 62-65. You should invest in a fan or chiller which can be expensive but necessary. They don't like light and I would even say turn it off all the time. As for feeding FEED LIVE EARTHWORMS. That's what they like best. And no other fish in the axolotl tank!!!! SERIOUSLY.

Paul axolotls need a chiller in the aquarium because they die if the water goes more than 65 degres
Their optimal temperature is 55

I live in Australia and I have 3 axolotls, the way the axolotls are treated in the breeder is horrible when I got mine they were looked after perfectly and weren’t kept in a small tank
Here’s what you should do
-remove the lights ( can cause stress )
-add not hiding spots as they fell can hide and feel less stressed
-try not to take it out of water too much and reduce touching it as you can rub off its slime coat
-the 2 filters are way too powerful and may stress your axie

Tip: don’t ever get it out of the water, they are fully aquatic animals and it can harm it if it’s out of the water even for a short amount of time. Also, I would recommend a longer tank since they mostly stay along the bottom of the tank, and more plants and feed them earth worms ( blood worms are not as nutritious as earthworms)
Mine started growing into a full lizard and I had to force it to stay in the water! It eventually died I'm not sure why but I think it's because the gills were sick because I can't see them anymore.

Drip acclimation is the way to go with a new aquatic pet. You can do a version of it without needing a complicated tube setup, this is what I used to do --
NEVER just slide them in.

4th main ingredient is very low water flow... they stress out easily with regular filters cause the flow is too fast... a low flow filter is also quite expensive. For this setup, if only use the bubbler and not the filter.

@@nicholas8476 where did you get them!? (The shrimp)
Axolitils in minecraft
-kills drowned
-cant be killed by gravel
-get an axolotil by putting it in a bucket
I know this was two years ago, but if you still have that substrate get rid of it, thats the short blunt answer, i used that exact sand and he was swallowing it everytime i fed him, i moved to a finer sand and use topfin and caribsea (not live sand), never handle you axolotl out of water and never just slip him in the tank, about every week do about a 15-20% water change your parameters must be exact for the axolotl to survive, they will get fungus or burns from ammonia but congrats on your axolotl (ik its been 2 years)

They need more plants to hide in,
The tank is a bit too small, they need a 20 gallon tank,
You need to get water conditioner if your gonna keep using tap water for the tank, I suggest seashem prime water conditioner,
Now please read this if your looking for axolotl or getting a axolotl, you can ask any questions too!

Yes
@@user-zs6nt7zk6k Good question, I am not sure but I believe they don’t as they absorb water with their gills and holmes
@🐁 for baby’s the best is small shrimps. Like really small. For big guys they eat earth worms and nightcrawlers. For treats you can use frozen bloodworms and brown shrimp. Please correct me if I’m wrong
@Salahudeen Abdulkabir ur getting arrested
So cute and sweet my favorite axolotl
What I can suggest for your axo, bloodworms is not their main food, it's only a treat for them and there is no nutrients that they can get on it and also for the tank size, Axo like long tank rather the height and make sure lower the strength of your water flow, they get easy to be stress and can get sick if can't maintain a low temp. 16 - 18 degrees C are the ideal temperature for them
Differently
I Think height is ok
Is it still alive? Hope you followed the advice how to properly Keep it
if you see it in more recent videos the gills are all withered :( poor axies. this is why i dont like paul cuffaro because im raising babies and axoltol health means the world to me. it hurts to see them in these conditions tbh
It’s doing pretty good
Maxim Ray *doubt*
It died within 2-4 months, in total he has had 8 axolotls since this one and they all died shortly after he got them.
That sand looks a bit to course for a axoltol. I would personally get a 20 gallon long tank. The more floor space the better.
Nic Holmes a 20 long has the same floor space as a 30 gal
U dum
Nicole TheDuck well all I was saying is the more floor the better
Spaghetti no body asked you
Nic Holmes u still dum

Axotlols need to be in a species only tank! Not even snails! And there should only be 1 axoltol in 20 gallons. You've got to do your own research, not just read a sign at the store. :(

@@matthewobrien4112 wrong
You will need a lid because axolotls are in the salamander family and the can jump right out of the tank. I learned that the hard way.
Why??? What happened to you to have "learned that the hard way"?
Hack _ Axolotls can’t survive on land, so if they become dry or go on land, they go in shock and die.
Correct!
When they jump out
Mine jumped out and died
This breaks my heart. You need to buy more places for it to hide. Also, DO NOT WHATSOEVER HOLD THEM! They have very very fragile slime coat that protects them. If you aren’t gonna care for him right give him away.
YES THIS DUDE READ LIKE ONE ARTICAL THAT WAS FULL OF MISINFORMATION AND WAS LIKE "hm ok nice ill do that and not double check in any way"
Totally agree I just spent like 2 days reasearching them and he is not being careful enough. He also needs some plants in there

I might be getting an axolotl for my birthday. Do you have any tips or information that I’d need to know? It’s fine if you don’t :)
@@melamourrr yes! Are used to have an axolotl now I have a dragon. So what you’re gonna need is something for the bottom not something too small but also not something too big. Get them multiple hiding spots and a pretty big tank. Whatever you do never hold them. They have a very thin slime coat that keeps them safe. You can feed them blood worms as a treat but don’t feed it to them as a meal!
2:39 I actually get you I have a pig as well and she walks around a lot 😂
Axolotls are NOT meant to be homed with other fish and you need at LEAST a 20 gallon tank for ONE axolotl. NO LESS.

Cool tank mate!!! A zebra pleco would be an awesome addition😉 as far as a name for your axolotl you should call it MAXOLOTL!😎
Axolotls are a species only animal. Fish especially plecos do more damage to their slime coats than anything so it's nor worth it

Get more decorations for the axolotl tank. Real plants, driftwood or rocks will give the axolotl more cover and fill in the tank. A great name for the axolotl would be drake because it seems unreal and mythical similar to drakes from mythology. Otherwise you’re doing great Paul, Keep it up!
no he isnt, hes doing awful and ruining this poor baby's life
I had 5 axolotl's at first but long story short they ate each other and now the Victor is living it up. And also 2:54 angler fish sighting.
Tip: With clean water, cool temperatures and a healthy diet they can live for 15 years! The main causes of sickness in Axolotls are poor water quality and chronic stress. You should check your water parameters regularly. Poor water quality can lead to secondary infections from parasites or bacteria.
CASPER the friendly ghost!...since hes see through!
