  • You can make any linear antenna this way. The main freq lengths you will need to know in this hobby are
1/4 wavelength lengths to cut antennas.
    433mHz 173.09 mm (6.81")
    915mHz 81.91 mm (3.22")
    2.4gHz 31.23 mm (1.23")
    5.8gHz 12.92 mm (.51")

thank you so much for this video, worked perfectly for a tinywhoop analog vtx antenna replacement while abroad without access to replacements parts. How cool is this equation?!

Great video dude. Helped me. Informative but still straight to the point. Thank you very much. 🤘

works great! for me as good as CP's for close field track racing.

Since the impedance matching isn't perfect, won't there be a standing wave in the cable? So, doesn't the length of the shielded portion matter? If you happen to egress to unshielded part at the wrong point, couldn't you be at a null?

I’m trying to get the maximum range. I commonly drive my RC car more than a half mile away and it’s losing range. How do I get more range? Do I just need to get a longer antenna that’s higher up in the air? I already stripped my antenna to 31.23 mm. But the range needs to be better still. Please tell me what to do?

You will not get more range by making an antenna longer. It needs to be tuned to the right frequency which is why the length is important to get right, that's the tuning part. You can get higher gain antennas that are more directional, or broadcast at higher power. Usually it comes down to your setup. You need to make sure your antennas are not blocked by/or next to things that restrict RF, like metal, water (body parts, trees, earth), carbon fiber. You need to get clear line of site between transmitter and receiver. Also you should try to make sure your antennas are polarized the same, either same circular polarization (which a simple whip antenna like this is not circular) or vertical antenna taking to another vertical antenna.

I think I understand antennas fairly well, but it's still a lot of black magic to me. Hopefully this knowledge helps people.

Thanks +Spoon FPV - no link in the description like as mentioned in the video.

What is the short metal tube for on most whip antennas? I think the shielding gets soldered to it.

These are sleeved dipoles. While the antenna in this video is a 1/4 wavelength monopole, a (sleeved) dipole is 1/2 wavelength in total.

That part is the balun for balancing Double A
