My first exposure to the amazingly unique voice of Venus Dodson, was our duet on Atlantic's Phreek album, "Everybody Loves A Good Thing". So, when Patrick asked me for songs for her own solo album, I jumped at the chance. "Shining" (written by James Calloway, Bruce Johnson and myself), allowed us to create a song through which she could spread her wings and let folks hear what kind of 'chops' she really had. To say that I was impressed and stupefied by her work, understates the matter considerably. "Floored with socks knocked clean off" is much more accurate. Leroy Burgess.

this record was covered/remixed reintroduced to modern dancefloors in the late 90s on the french basenotic label www.discogs.com/Various-Bakchich-EP-4/master/522548 with the cut "tiko - everybody shine" - this is how i first felt this groove.. discovering the original years afterwards
I'm guessing it was to get some slip and slide on the dance floor. In my grandparents day they used French chalk. On the Northern soul scene in the UK we used talc (same thing - different name to describe baby powder) You never wore your leather soled dancing shoes on the street if you were a serious dancer.
