Something about the sound of a Chainsaw early in the morning🤔.... so much so I've 7 new saws in my collection,... going to buy a new Husky 135 real soon just because I need another SAW ! You have so much energy .... Always a great job Bjarne..... I might need a new Helicopter also, love the sound of the blades slapping the early morning air.😁
Thanks for taking the time and effort to film building that pad, I've watched you do it before but it doesn't get old seeing it again! At this stage in my life my back would be absolutely screaming at me after lifting those those beams around for several hours, I'd say you more than earned your wages on this day!! Thanks for the video, and Merry Christmas!!
Tight quarters . lol Cramp in the leg ?... I'm 67 and been getting them since I was in my late 50's and found out magnesium and calcium helps . Start doing something now before you get to my stage in life . :) Another good video Bjarne . :)
Dill pickle juice almost kills them right away . Drink maybe 4 ounces and within minutes it works for me . But high mineral supplements once or twice a day does a big part in removing them . :)@@kinkmyknob
Nice pad. Can you make your stringers a couple feet longer and have them stick out over the stump to get a few more feet away when you run into that situation?
The helicopter is not allowed to land his “ bear paws” past the stumps. There is a designated board(usually the biggest thats ripped) that is placed where the bear paws are supposed to to land and that can’t be psst the stumps.
I guess that makes it tough on a steep slope when you don't have many stumps to work with. I suppose if it were the other way, there wouldn't be consistent pads and it could cause accidents because guys could build them with too much space behind the stumps.
WOW! That’s just a TON of work Bjarne, ESPECIALLY if it was not going to work out. BUT I’m certainly glad that it did. But PLEASE don’t let the pilot get into any undue issues because of it. Life would be terrible without a “ride” to work.
Merry Christmas Bjarne - I was relieved as well when you had the chopper confirm you’d built the pad with right distance - saw has real power, I don’t think you even needed to change to a ripping chain for the planks. Beautiful Canadian office view brother thank you - cheers
I have a ripping chain but it was at home and for a 32” bar. I’ve never used one for making a pad but it would help. I usually just take my rakers down a bit more
More than me. Being a logging pilot sure has some cool perks. They get to fly in unique areas, land on remote mountaintops and gravel bars and do all sorts of cool stuff
Well by God great vidja Bjarne!! That's what I call busting ass and getting er done by God! Merry Christmas to you and your family God bless and stay safe out there sirrrr!
Mate. You are the man! Have been binge watching your content all day (plus signed up to Trivgi, which I'd suggested people interested should maybe have a look at). Looking to get into the forestry trade as a something. Might as well as I spend so much time in it. Any jobs for Brits out there? Have learnt a lot off your videos. Training course coming soon for me. Sorting out that heli-landing is amazing to watch your thought process. Do you have to walk in far to get to where you work? then set up the landing?
Well it was measured by eyeball when the chopper landed. It’s not too unusual on a steep mountainside for that amount of clearance. But I did do a measurement from rear board to the rock face to make sure it was enough. Usually it’s a stump or the ground, not a dramatic looking rock face. 🤙
Varies dramatically. Couldn’t really give you a solid answer. Depends on the terrain, tree size, bucking specs, weather, number of saplings and understory trees, and your definition of a tree, does a 10’ tree 3” diameter count? Or just trees that need an undercut? 🤷♂️🤙
Hey I’m curious, do you guys ever have a tarp stashed up there to make a shelter out of your pad if you have to spend the night on the mountain? I know you said you can walk out of this spot if you have to but I bet some of the blocks are pretty remote.
@@BjarneButler Cheeres, I kinda figured that pad would’ve made a nice spot for an overnight. Stay safe in the new year and thanks for the great videos.
The trees gotta be felled regardless and ripping can take up to an hour, so it’s normally not cost effective enough. Unless there are no way to make the material onsite
That log barge looks like it's overloaded, not a smart thing to do. You better be careful lifting those timbers, or you're gona end up with your balls in your boots.😅

Now that was cool!
Thanks for showing us how you guys build them.
Holy cats... good thing your pilot's a wild man
Hehe
Merry Christmas Bjarne to you and your family, and everyone else watching, thank you for a video on Christmas to watch
Best vid ever

thank s again for another great vidio Bjarne hope your knees are a lot better take care god bless
Yup knees are good thanks. Those 12hr Advil work great 🤙
A pair of eager beavers !!
Really interesting and well filmed video!
What a pilot!! What trust you have in your friend and he in you!! Can't make that s..t up👌

Ya it’s definitely a work “smarter” not “harder” type of job. I gotta stretch every day to keep in shape now
Thanks for all your cool videos!
Happy healthy holidays
Mighty tight! Thanks for the video.
That sir was a great video never seen anything like that you are the man of the mountain! Merry Christmas
Thanks but just another faller on the coast. Lots of other great fallers out here too 🤙

Building a pad. Now that's real Bull work.
That rock needs your initials! In Red ,BB.CHEERS
Wow thats some pad up on the mountain. Brave blokes.
Enjoyed seeing you build the pad so much had to watch it a second time.
Nice pad. Can you make your stringers a couple feet longer and have them stick out over the stump to get a few more feet away when you run into that situation?
I was about to ask the same question.

I hope you enjoyed your Christmas with your family. Wishing you a Happy, healthy and all the blessings the New Year brings.

Ya I made sure he was notified of the situation of the pad and it was marked very well on the pad too 🤙
Well done my friend.
Good job on helicopter pad buddy . Same on time climb up from the low one ☝️ Bjarne. 😊
Man, that was friggin awesome Bjarne, cheers, hope you and your fams had a merry Chrissy.

Really liked the second pad tree. Camera angle was spot on Thanks
Amazing vidéo , you really did à Nice job . Glad you did not need to begin over
I'm genuinely surprised! I assumed that the Company would send in a couple of blokes to construct the pad. We live and learn!
The company is all fallers 🤙
Holy crap that's some skilled pilot! I need to know how much they get paind now!
More than me. Being a logging pilot sure has some cool perks. They get to fly in unique areas, land on remote mountaintops and gravel bars and do all sorts of cool stuff
😊😊 that was really cool 👏👏
Merry Christmas Bjorn all the best to you and yours

Very entertaining
As small of landing pad, it must be tough getting a pilot to risk landing with such small margins. Great photo of the helicopter landing.
These pilots are top notch. The clearance wasn’t too unusual on steep ground, just looked more dramatic
Awesome stuff, a day of good old backbreaking work there mate 👍👍👍, do you carry some ripping chain for all that ripping?
Nope but it could be handy on pads that require a lot of ripping
I like this stuff. Would love to be out west doing this. Your west I’m east. Thanks
that heli pad is nuts!!! 2ft?
2ft doesn’t feel like a lot especially with the backwash from the rock face
Well it was measured by eyeball when the chopper landed. It’s not too unusual on a steep mountainside for that amount of clearance. But I did do a measurement from rear board to the rock face to make sure it was enough. Usually it’s a stump or the ground, not a dramatic looking rock face. 🤙
Hello
I ask how many tree you cut down in 8 hrs work period😮 on a good day.
Enjoyed your post.
Varies dramatically. Couldn’t really give you a solid answer. Depends on the terrain, tree size, bucking specs, weather, number of saplings and understory trees, and your definition of a tree, does a 10’ tree 3” diameter count? Or just trees that need an undercut? 🤷♂️🤙
👏👏👌
You could of easily cantilevered the strings if you had to, and great job
Do you use a ripping chain as those on a portable sawmill?
No but they would be handy when there is a lot of bigger logs to rip. Normally I just take the rakers down more
Cedar makes the foam
Ok cool, I didn’t know what was causing the foam.
It's a day's work building that thing. If you built that landing for me you would have to walk home!!!!
🧐
you know you sound like Buckin' Billy Ray Smith
What do you do with the pad once the block is done?
Mother nature deals with it?
It’s used for the tree planters
Do you bring a ripping chain when you know you are going to be building pads?
Nope but it would help
Cool lot of work but you are used to it 🎉
Why can't you run your stringers three foot over the stump? Most of the weight of the chopper would be onthe stumps.
Hey I’m curious, do you guys ever have a tarp stashed up there to make a shelter out of your pad if you have to spend the night on the mountain? I know you said you can walk out of this spot if you have to but I bet some of the blocks are pretty remote.
Ya sometimes we’ll bring an overnight kit if we get stuck on the hill.
@@BjarneButler Cheeres, I kinda figured that pad would’ve made a nice spot for an overnight. Stay safe in the new year and thanks for the great videos.
Would it not be cost effective to have a helicopter bring precut deck boards to the pad site? Looks like a lot of time and hard work spent on ripping.
The trees gotta be felled regardless and ripping can take up to an hour, so it’s normally not cost effective enough. Unless there are no way to make the material onsite
👍 sir!
Cantilever your stringer logs out over your stumps to buy you some more room
Y'all have to be part mountain goat to work on that hill😂😂. Is that the 572 you're running?
Yup, wood not big enough for the 592 to be practical. A lot of limbing and understory and sapling to chase too
@@BjarneButler Looks bigger than the pine we have in East Texas too me.😅
That log barge looks like it's overloaded, not a smart thing to do.
