    Thanks. You answered the real question of why the door handle stops working. I first watched an A1auto video where they didn't address the true problem. Many people in the comments said that they bought the new handle and it did not fix the problem. A1auto did not respond to them. The only good advice they had was to lubricate the latching mechanism while you had the door mostly apart.

      I watched the video by 1A Auto and found out they had another one about replacing the reinforcement. But this version has the whole schmeer exposed and he shows the little latch or arm that causes the problem. I’m glad I found this one because it’s easy to see everything he’s talking about.

    Just bought a 20 year old ford MK1 with a loose handle. Your Video helped me to understand how the handle is pulled back in and by presententing the mechanism exposed like you did it was easy to understand what is going on. Thanks A LOT!

    Just want to thank the poster of this video! It was awesome, I had the exact problem and your video was the only one that explained how to fix and replace the inner door handle mechanism. I didn't use the cheap fix, but got a brand new replacement and was able to use your video for the dis and reassemble. Thanks for the great breakdown on the work and saving me $350 from my ford dealership. Only took an hour to do if you're handy. Thanks again!

    I just wanted to compliment the video for clarity and the real root cause of this problem. I'm dealing with the same problem. I learned the hard way it wasn't the handle. I did find the inside door pieces new from an after-market seller on Amazon for $20.49 for the pair, both passenger and driver. I have a two-door hatchback. They normally are about $21 each, but if you shop carefully you can find a good deal if you want to replace the whole assembly on both or have a spare when the other side goes, and it will. I had to do just that. Shortly after my driver side broke, on a cold winter day I was getting in the car for groceries and the passenger side broke too. What a joy that was.

    I wanted to see how you got the rod out

    • @sirthomasnolan
      @sirthomasnolan 2 года назад +2

      edit: this is from Left driver door
      If you mean the vertical linking rods, you don't, as far as I can tell. Not from the inside.
      Get to the point where you have the inside of door exposed. I only needed to peel back the top left quarter of foam glued to door. 1st, unbolt the latch/motor assy from door. Attached to that on the inside is a vertical piece of plastic that contains the link rods. It's held to latch motor with two small screws, remove those. Remove the wire connector to lock motor by putting a long thin flat screwdriver thru hole latch motor hole to push in little clip that should face rear of car. Lastly, remove the two screws holding the door handle assy to car. The long thin one on left side goes through to the cover over keyhole. That should pry up and out, pivoting on the rear-end of it. Removing small screw to the right will let you pull handle assy to the right and out.
      Now you've got a jangly mess. Hopefully everything is free of the door, but trapped inside. You start bi moving the handle assy to the front side of the window glass, and turning all of it clockwise, with the bottom right side of latch motor ending up along the edge of the open space you're working through. Will take quite a bit of maneuvering. Eventually you should be able to pull it out by lifting the motor end up, while pushing handle part down and pulling it all out on a counter-clockwise direction.
      The rod going through the metal flapper in inside handle assy can now be twisted out of the "grommet" it sits in. The link going to the latch motor that rides up a small vertical channel can be turned 90° and removed to pull the vertical plastic piece off the handle assy.
      Now reverse all that, but it goes back or much easier than it came out.

  • @tootall5559
    @tootall5559 4 года назад +1

    Thank you, in my case, it was the actual handle that was broken on the inside, it wouldn't make contact with the lever it needs to. I have tried some epoxy putty on it, least ways for now. once it sets up, I'll put it back together and see what I've got then. It may not hold up. I think making plastic door handles is stupid, especially for the driver's door, the one that gets used the most. I haven't been happy with the build quality of anything they'ave made in any brand for a long time. seems to me they over engineer things, then use the cheapest material they can to make it work. whatever happened to steel and aluminum and iron? High use parts should always be steel.

    Thanks for the video. Very informative and it's nice to actually see how it all works I was cleaning the snow off the car and tried to open the door handle and it just went to nothing it was frozen and snow and ice might have been to much pressure and it hopped off or sonething. But I will find out soon enough when I tear into it.. I'm in the process of watching how to's to be able to efficiently tear it apart and fix it. I'm going to watch your door panel removal as well before I rip it apart and go to the scrap yard and get the little lever with the spring. Hopefully it's as good as this one was. Also good job camera person other then the yawns lol jk. Thanks again for showing the view without the door this will help greatly. Also can you replace that piece instead of doing the back plate while it's installed or as it is on the door or do you need to dissasemble most or all of the parts inside the door ? I'm hoping that this is just the issue and it will be a not to difficult fix.

    KEEP YOUR LATCHES LUBRICATED!!
    That's why that part fails. When the latch isn't well lubricated the cable must pull harder and the tab breaks. Don't use white lithium grease. It gets gummy when it gets cold. Worth HHS 2000 is the best but it's not cheap and can only be bought from Wurth. You can buy it on eBay or if you know of a local shop that uses it maybe they can get you a can. A little goes a long way.

    I ordered the new handle via Amazon and it didn’t fix the problem. I’m going to the salvage yard this week to find this reinforcement part. Unless I’m missing something, I suppose I’ll have to remove the reinforcement and the lock to replace the little arm or actuator thing, as well as if I replace the original reinforcement with the salvage part. Is that correct or did I miss a shortcut? I’m barely a DIY guy, but I am not willing to shell out $200+ on my old ‘07 Focus hoopty.

    But how do you just push back that pin and wiggle it out to get that wing arm out of a car in the junkyard, for example. I can't find a way to do it unless I completely disassemble the locking mechanism from inside the door and try to bend the upright metal rod arm so I can slip out of the hole which actuates the mechanism.

    Thanks for the info, helped explain what happened with our focus. The metal piece is the part that is broken. Ordered new plate to install. Question...do I have to take out the whole unit, including locking mechanism and interior handle in order to install? Looks like limited space with the holes in the door, but wasn't sure if required. Just praying it can be put back together easier.

      I think I'm having a similar issue. How on Earth does that entire L shaped assembly with the lock, and everything come out through those holes in the door? Did you ever get this to work?

    Looks like you have to lower the window regulator in order to get to the second screw holding the reinforcement plate. If not how did you get that screw out on a 2008 Focus?

    So, I have the panel off, and everything exposed. I have taken out the two T-20s, and three T-27s. How on earth do I get that entire assembly out through such a small hole? I have even tried removing the window guide, and that only bought me an inch at best. Am I missing another video?

    Great, and descriptive video but do you happen to know what the piece is called, that the tab breaks?

    Mine is sticking, when I go to pull the outside handle, it's catching and I have to pull really hard to get it to open, im afraid it's about to break.

      Did you get it fixed, dump the car, replace the part or apply some lube?

    +psychotogen Hey Man, it sounds like maybe your locking mechanism is getting stuck. Have you tried lubricating around the lock?

    Can you put in the description the tools required to remove the assembly and to fix the issue described in the video? I have a 2007 Ford Focus Wagon and I needed a flathead screwdriver, a torx t20, a 1/4 socket w extention (some need a 7mm socket), a torx t27. Is there anything else?
