    Hey man, I don't know if I've ever commented on one of your vids but I've been watching for a while, and I've gotta say, living in Maine it's been really nice to see someone who also love turtles just go out and explore. I've learned a lot and am able to keep my passion for animals thru ur vids even when herping is a little tougher up here. Love the snappers, common is my favorite personally. Sorry for the long comment, just wanted to show some appreciation.

    Hey Greg, big fan from China, also a big fan of musk turtles, really love your videos, learned lots. Just wanna say thank you and hope you can keep going.
    PS: Can you introduce the habitats of Giant musk turtles such as Mexican giant musk turtles or narrow bridge musk turtles.
    Thanks a lot!

    What a beautiful footage 🙃... I went once to visit florida where my grandmother lives and got crazy about freshwater turtles in lakes and canals.. best experience ever, another time was in Morocco... they have some very interesting species too.. in my part of Europe we have only Emys Orbicularis but he can apparently reach up to 100-120years of age and resembles quite a lot of the spotted turtle!!! I have best time watching your backyard and trips, thank you

    Hey Greg, how cold do you let your Florida snapping turtles get? I’ve heard they are less cold tolerant than regular commons. I live in Maryland and want to get one

    • @GregsTurtleHaven
      @GregsTurtleHaven  3 года назад +1

      I leave them out year round, no extra heat or anything. But I live in the south and our coldest temps are about 20s overnight a handful of times a season, and usually well above freezing during the day

    I’m from Michigan I would love to have a alligator snapping turtle but they don’t belong here. I do however want to get a baby common snapping turtle. So far I have a painted turtle and a northern map turtle young in a 30 gallon tank.

      You might have a hard time on your Florida spotted turtles. When ivwas in Florida from 1991 to 1996 a only encountered 2 chicken turtles. One giant female at Bartram hall parking lot, university of Florida Campus, near that creek. And one over by Old town Florida on some rural highway. If anyone ever keep chicken turtles either highly filter the water or keep it tannin stained with black walnut hull powder from herbal bulk supply. Black walnut kills all fungus and keeps the algae away too. Not sure long term health effects but I'm sure it also will keep parasites down. Black walnut hull is the best turtle fungus and turtle survival tonic for winter water and rainy weeks in out side turtles.
