    My perference between my AMP23R and Holo Bliss, with the Utopia 22, goes to the former! So unsure about the HM1 outclassing the AMP23R for me.

    I love the pairing with my Diana TC’s but it wasn’t until I changed the pads to the new pads did they really deliver in the mids and the bass. It was subtle but the overall effect made these my go to headphones. I sold my Susvara’s as they were just sitting on the shelf. The other pairing I truly enjoy is the Final D8000 Pro.

      So you enjoy the Final D800 pro with the Enleum? I am considering this amp to par with Sus/final D800 and Tc’s.

    This is so strange because the AMP-23R is the hands down best amp I've ever heard the 1266TC on, and it's the same deal with anyone I've talked to who've tried that pairing. What is the serial number of your demo amp?

  • @johenkay1129

    Exactly what I've been saying about the Enleum for months now. It gives the Susvara amazing sub bass. It may not have the initial punch as the Utopia, but the Susvara retains that bass for longer and has a richer and more substantial sounding low end(with the enleum 23r), making the bass more enjoyable on the Susvara imo. I can't understand how someone could claim that the Susvara lacks bass especially when paired with the enleum.

    The Bakoon DAC uses those connections. It’s the only DAC currently available. It’s a fair DAC.

    It's a curious thing how we all hear differently. I have also 1266 TC and LCD-4 and for more then a year now I have 23R. I can agree with the bass sounding great but the midrage is a big problem for me. It's pushed back a bit and moreover smoothened. All the instruments textures are lacking. Because of that for me music through the Enleum is a bit lifeless. Like you hear it, you acknowledge it but it doesn't make you dive in it, lose yourself in the tracks. Some people don't have a problem with that and some other like me, GoldenSound or Convince Me Audio we do. There was a theory even that some amps are defected but that's not the case, mine was checked by the Enleum. Also for me 1266 TC sound the best with the 23R. This is this strange synergy, where bough have this v shaped sound but together they are really good. Maybe I'm lacking the perspective (besides 23R I have Cayin HA-300 and Burson Soloist 3xp) but soon I'll check it with Holo Audio Bliss. Or maybe the DAC is the key component here (Holo Audio May). Anyway, nice job!

      Not only do we hear things differently, we all have different tastes in what we want. Some want ultra resolution and technical performance, othes may want more of a V shape and fun, others may prefer warm, etc. For me personal, I like Sus on Tubes and my focus is on vocals. I want that to be the best which is why I like Toobs over almost all solid state, 465 not withstanding.

      What I found with the Enleum is that I couldn't make any generalizations. It behaved differently with different headphones and voltage inputs. Running in high-power sounded generally worse to my ears. That's why I felt the need to go through so many different headphones in the review. Normally I stick to 1 or 2 headphones. The Zahl will be a much easier amp to review! But every pairing brought out good and/or not-so-good with the Enleum. I do believe if you have a Susvara, you should audition the 23r. Cheers! Great discussion.

      Exactly this. Had one on home demo. for a few weeks. First one was faulty and neatly blew my ears. Second one was fine. Aesthetically it’s wonderful but at the end of the day, for me, there were two big negatives.
      Firstly, yeah that lack of mid-range and texture with my Zu speakers meant it sounded impressive but music didn’t flow. It wasn’t engaging. Moreover the soundstage was okay but absolutely not as wide nor deep as many described and that magic with vocals wasn’t there at all. Moved it to a friends Nagra 300b based system and it produced exactly the same lacks. Dealer tested it and found it was working as it ought. I loved everything about it bar the sound.
      Secondly though, quality control is questionable. My first one had been left in pre mode so volume was fixed ludicrously loud even at zero gain. Had marks on the amps body and the feet. That was open box so the second one was sealed. Interestingly came with damaged feet again but also with a damaged remote.
      I noticed over time that, wonderful though the remote control was, there was a constant inconsistency with the gain increments. A single click didn’t always produce the same gain or lowering on the same piece of music and so on. Same happened if you used the gain manually.

    Hi Does this amp with susvara makes the treble a bit dark? I like the V shaped sound profile and i love the sound of the susvara but the vocals are too high sometimes fatiguing I like how hd800s handles vocals by throwing them away By the way am not powering the Susvara correctly am using HDV820 and i don't think it's doing it so am looking for TOTL Amp.

    • @DirectorsGarage
      @DirectorsGarage  2 месяца назад +1

      I didn't note anything about the treble extension with the Susvara being muted with the 23r. My bigger issue was noise. It's not the quietest amp, for sure. I gave it a pass, though, because the Enleum is so damn fun. There are only 2 amps that have produced slam with the Susvara (that I've heard-- an important distinction)- The 23R and the Ray Samuels B-21. Unfortunately the B-21 shot way out of my reach last week, I can no longer afford it. I'm going to need to find an alternate solution.

    Great review Michael. I had a similar poor experience with the Enleum Abyss 1266 combo. Not sure they were being overdriven, I just felt like the Enleum couldn’t bring the 1266 to life. No bass impact whatsoever and like you I tried a few different settings. I did wonder if it was the lack of balanced output. I wouldn’t describe myself as the typical OCD audiophile but all that clicking would be a dealbreaker for me. Very disconcerting. Susvara have never really excited me. I had an opportunity to borrow some when I had the 23r on loan. Seems like a big mistake not to have tried the combo. Perhaps I’d finally understand what the Susvara hype is all about. Looking forward to the HM1 review.
