You opened the pack up to the meat shelf but did not have one. The actual shelf is an option or accessory and works quit well while only adding ounces in weight. The system will work without but not nearly as well. You guys are great, keep doing you.
To be fair Steve Speck calls that area the “meat shelf”. I have the accessory shelf on my pack. What I’ve found is it’s just as easy to pack meat by wedging it tightly with all the compression straps without the actual shelf accessory. There is also no need to loosen the two bottom straps to open up the area at the bottom of the frame. I leave it tight at the bottom so I get a wedge effect keeping the meat exactly where I want it.
Currently looking at the EXO 4800 to use for bushcraft/camp... im disabled so i was thinking maybe this pack would help support my back ? Any thoughts ?
I can't say much about how this pack would help support your back, but I can tell you it has a stiff metal frame from top to bottom, and is very adjustable. I have yet to know anyone who runs this pack and is unhappy, myself included. It's an excellent pack!
Thanks for this individual breakdown of the ever popular Exo K3 4800. I am looking for my first load hauling pack for anything from hauling whitetails 🦌 out of some steep places in West Virginia and Pennsylvania to pronghorn, mule deer and if possible an elk out west. Probably not stay in one spot longer than 3 or 4 days.
