She pulled the same stunt when she got caught trying to steal credit for someone else's original art. Apparently indie creators aren't "complex" enough to praise, but they are good enough to plagiarize. But hey, who needs integrity when you've got low-cut shirts and a zealous army of simps?

Boooo, Theo is doing the Jim sterling "stinky Gamers" thing where he just picks the extremes and ignores the point It's not that these characters are "ugly" it's that they are significantly uglier than their actors in similar ways. You have important female characters that the players will see a lot and yet they look scuffed, the excuse that it's because of the tech doesn't hold up when older games do it fine or when male characters look like the actors Dev's example with MJ was obvious and it's even more obvious when you compare the character in the first game to the character in the newer game The most evident change in kay and MJ (and others) is their big wombo chins If this was a mistake it would be embarrassing for these big companies but people feel it's deliberate and they dislike the idea that developers are intentionally told to make characters uglier for ideological reasons
Theo's point was just that it is nowhere near as big of an issue as people are making it seem, especially compared to these games' bigger problems. He was present when dev presented these two examples you mentioned, I don't know why you think he doesn't know this.

Wait a second, it really just hit me what that article about shooting from the speeder actually said. “The original trilogy focused on speeder chases where the heroes were evading instead of shooting.” There was no speeder chase in A New Hope or Empire Strikes Back. There was one singular speeder chase in Return of the Jedi. And the heroes were the ones chasing! They accidentally tipped off troopers while trying to sneak into a base and had to chase them down to stop them from reporting in that they’d seen rebels on Endor. They were chasing the scout troopers, not trying to evade them. These people don’t even know what is happening in the stories they’re copying.
I'm noticing a pattern of the EFAP crew andmany guests having some rather interesting takes about the appearances of female characters. Which would fine, but they tend to be accompanied by some really wild strawmen arguments aimed at the audience. Aloy looks like she was stung by bees, Kay straight up looks like a goblin in certain scenes. Neither look anything like their face models. This is also a very consistent pattern across the western game industry.
Yeah dev and theo think they are "above the culture war" or whatever as if the uglyfication of female characters wasn't a big deal. They will just gaslight you and call you an incel for noticing real trends....
That was weird but I think they were trying to point out, yes it's there, but it's a bit hyperbolic in terms of how people talk about the issue. Yes, they sometimes make women look like goblins, or fat them up, or do a Veilguard, and that's lame... but that's the least of these games problems. And in the case of Horizon, which I think is a good enough game, it's not really a problem. It's a really baffling creative choice, to make your MC less appealing to male gamers, but it doesn't fundamentally hurt the gameplay.
I kinda hate people using Aloy as a consistent example, because sure there’s a bit of a difference, but it’s not a stark difference like MJ or Kay or Female Ryder way back in Mass Effect Andromeda in 2017. Then there’s also retroactively changing characters like the custom character in Pokémon Go. And more recently Dragon Age Veilguard where the “max” breasts/butt size isn’t even the average for women. But otherwise I agree. Just think people should use more blatant examples. It’s like EFAP doesn’t want to give the people noticing a “win” for whatever reason. Even though it’s verifiably and observably true. Maybe they’re trying to distance themselves from being given the same “ist” labels that people get for pointing this out, but they’ve gotten that and much worse, so I can’t imagine that being the case. Seems like this sort of dissmissiveness/denialism happened around the Dead Space remake bathroom thing (and other changes). You can argue they’re “small and don’t matter”, but it’s still correct that they were changed, and for political/financial reasons if you look into the developers’ ideology and certain initiatives that every company is trying to cater to. Even the faces. Why do they have to reflect the current age of the voice actors? Why does Isaac have to look like his VA now? It’s not like The Simpson’s where you can clearly tell the difference in voice because it’s been 30 years. The remake was maybe 15 years after. A fair amount of time but not horrendous. Plus, the characters weren’t supposed to be in their 50’s, and the line passed around “he’s supposed to be a professional of his craft” is junk. You can be a pro (or at least quite knowledgeable) in your 30’s. Don’t know if they parroted that last line, I just remember it being an excuse.
Theo is at it again. Telling people to touch grass when it’s the company actively making women uglier. Taking a 10/10 and turning them into a 3 on purpose. It’s very clear we have the technology to not make women ugly, by accident. The actress in God of war Ragnarok that played Fey in the dreams had the exact same face as she does in real life. The main character and the sith inquisitor from Jedi fallen order has the exact same face as they do in real life. So it’s obvious they are doing that on purpose. Oh and Rags I don’t feel the need to have sex with every women that acknowledges my presence. So yes I will not sleep with Aloy nor any of these actresses from these videos games. So don’t do the women thing of “oh you don’t want to sleep with me so you must be gay then”.
A 3??? 😂😂😂😂😂 Insanely grassless - she just looks like a normal woman. Can't think of anything more less suited to a hostile video game world as a 10/10 model running round with blasters and shit lmaoooo
@@Tacti_cat So many of chat and folks consider Horizon 2 Aloy/Outlaws Protag Girl as ugly as Nikado Avocado, to me they look fine. I see that sentiment EVERYWHERE so I can understand how grating it gets. The protags being "literally ugly" could be hyperbolic but it seems more people unironically think they are low-tier in looks. Ironically Dev talks about how much discussion about Outlaws is centered around the looks of the protagonist (which is fine if not basic as hell and much like so many "newbie marvel girls") and yet most of the comments here is focused on the looks even though to me and many others think they are okay. I still can see yur gripes with Theo, though he didn't call EFAP chat grass-less gemlins, he started off saying folks in the Internet, a bit later he does refer to some of the chat 'were they to use hyperbolic statements repeatedly to the point it's hard to see them as hyperbolic and just unironic thoughts'. I still see it as a Theo problem but I kinda agree with him given how reductive and constant the complaints are brought up. Some say it is a much more nuanced discussion but that sadly gets overshadowed by people saying the protags are ugly trolls which confuses me. If it's any consolation, I still wish and hope the EFAP guys would tackle the discussion and look it with better faith by looking at better examples of the studio meddling of female characters compared to their actresses. And I also am curious what they will say if certain guests try to bring up the discussion, especially if they express it in the same manner as so many in chat/comments/sites. With that said this was a fun EFAP looking at all the failures of this game.

Asmongold tier L farming going on here. Went outside, touched grass. Beautiful women in slutty leggings and big puffy jackets in fact do exist by the metric ton load. I have the biochemical and ontological evidence. Their faces DON'T look like an over-compressed jpegs filled with artifacts. And yes, alternatively pretty and sexy people do exist, as demonstrated by the worksmanship of Incase. In these games? They look like US Marines with their faces reconstructed after their 3rd tour in Afghanistan. I changed my opinion on Theo. Elden Ring is perfect, and he needs to get gud.
@@TobyLerone76 They can. The issue is that these less attractive MCs are being scanned in from significantly MORE attractive face models...and it's VERY selective as to which models they can scan in and which they can't, which makes their attempted defence "Oh no guys it's hard for them to do this okay?! Cut them some slack!" fall pretty flat. Debra Wilson's got it in her contract that her characters have to look like her. Cal Kestis resembles Cameron Monaghan just fine. Wukong scanned their ladies into the game no bother. Even this very game managed to scan in the Big Bad Sliro just fine, cause he looks an awful lot like Caolan Byrne. Why can't they do that with Humberly González for Kay as well?
@@TobyLerone76 there's a difference between a character being appealing and attractive. The characters mentioned (such as the protagonist of outlaws) are neither appealing or attractive and I'd say that is a problem especially in a game where you're going to see those characters in cutscenes.
@@awooga-gunga-israel This one. This is the thing. Look at Overwatch, even the unsexy characters have an appeal. Roadhog is fat but he's "funny" fat. The fattie from Concord is "You have to respect my life choices" fat. When people make characters like Kay or SM2 MJ they focus on making them unsexy. The focus isn't on what they are, it's on what they aren't, like Bella Swan. That's just not a method conducive for making cool, interesting or otherwise appealing characters.
and you have them. with Aloy and this Kay character and with Shadowheart and on and on and on. There is NOTHING WRONG with the way these women characters look. from a non-technical standpoint, anyway.
Dev is annoying. To totally dismiss the uglifycation of female characters is so disingenuous. Humans are good at recognizing patterns and there are multiple incidents of this. Mary Jane - Spider Man 1 to 2 made uglier Aloy - game 1 to game 2 uglier Not sure if anyone remembers. Pokemon go, a game where you create your own characters had an update that essentially made everyone uglier. The gender ambiguity shite. Dragon Age 4. Ass and breast sliders. You can't make a busty thicc female character. So, sorry if you happen to be a female with large breasts and a large ass. But your body type is apparently "problematic" and you can't be represented.
It's quite funny if you think about it that people who they're trying to represent cannot even be recreated in this type of character creators :x You can't make a boulder and you can't make a avarge (at least in the UK) African female with big both (or maybe all of them) sides of her body...
To be fair... they also did weird stuff to Peter's character model in Spider-Man 2 and the PS5 upgrade for the first game. In Resident Evil 8, Chris Redfield was unrecognisable. It's more obvious and prevalent with women, but there's examples of male characters getting smooshed too. Thankfully, Abe from Abe's Odyssey remains unscathed.
You can’t even make an _average_ woman in Veilguard, never mind anything extreme just to be goofy. Also, don’t forget Ryder from Mass Effect Andromeda. This change seems to have kickstarter around that time. Or at least, the earliest blatant example. That was 7 years ago. We”re encroaching on 10 years of this nonsense already.
While the word “ugly” might be hyperbolic, what’s being said is they’re making female characters less attractive than the models playing them. This is happening, noticeably, especially in western gaming. Where only attractive female models are “difficult” to capture correctly.

I'm not gonna sugarcoat it. It's because they're hiring feminist activists into all sorts of positions at game companies. You know, the sorts that go crazy at the mere mention of "the male gaze". It's either that or they're trying to blur the line between men and women. For reason that they've been very vocal about, let's say.
@@mattmark94 that's the smoking gun right there. When they just make a new character ugly they can hide behind the excuses "it's hard to program an accurate face in-game compared to the model!" With Aloy and Mary Jane being changed from game to game that is a conscientious choice to make the character model uglier. You already have the asset made, you are making more work for yourself to go back in and change it when moving to the next game. Why are you doing that? Well we know why (drunk Scottish accent) "THE MESSAGE!!!"
What was really funny about Aloy in the first game is that if you look at the concept art and the initial designs they were going to go for, she was actual much prettier, not a DOA girl but definitely a little more pronounced femininity. Her VA, forgot her name but she voiced Cassie Cage in MKX and MK11, was very vocal on toning down her design due to sexism and would later brag about it on then Twitter, and was very vocal on her involvement with the design decisions for the second game. All that said first game Aloy wasn't bad, you play the game for Robot Dinosaurs so you can overlook things, the second game Aloy was to awful to overlook.
I think the efap crew's problem with Uglification argument is that they see people like Syntheticman or Andypantsgaming championing these argument, and immediately dismiss it as bad or shallow criticism. They don't dig in to why gamers complain about uglification of women, and assume gamers who use this criticism believe that a game is bad because the women are ugly, when in truth gamers who use this criticism just use it as a signifier of other things. Compare for example face scans of Cal Kestis from Jedi survivor/fallen order with Kay Vess, and you'll notice how Cal has a near perfect scan while Kay has accentuated masculine features. you might say different studios, okay then compare Joseph Seed from Far cry 5 with Kay. older game and lower budget and still Joseph has near perfect face scan. Mind you this isn't isolated to ubisoft. The new fable game has a horrid female face scan. At the end of the day, uglified women in gaming is the same as female protagonist in movies. it's not really the problem, but just an omen of bad quality. Take for example the new animated LOTR series coming up, did the crew not become cautious when they heard the protagonist of the story is an unnamed female character?
Sure, if you use comparisons like Death Stranding or male scans they would more than likely agree but Rags and Theo just shut themselves out when you don't sugarcoat it.

Its pretty easy to see that MJ, Aloy, Kay, and a myriad of other recent female game characters look way off from their IRL face models. It gets even easier when the developers admit that they do it on purpose.
With MJ it's not even the fact that she looks nothing like her face model. She doesn't looks like HERSELF from the previous installment. Insomniac keeps ruining characters' appearances for no good reason -- from that awful Peter 'recast' to the illogical Miles suit in SM2.
@@nickcockroachthe worst part about this is that MJ is supposed to be a model and actress in the comics and supposed to be smoking hot. It is frustrating that these guys get so much right about what's wrong with media today but when it comes to more of the sensitive areas like uglification of female characters and anti-white character casting, they suddenly sound exactly like the people usually make fun of, like Theo with his "touch grass" comment. I don't think the Star Wars Outlaws girl is that ugly compared to Sony stuff personally but it's clear that there is a clear political reason behind them making characters look more like the activists and less like the models they're based on

I don’t think the group fully grasps the ugly-ifying women stuff. It’s not just that they’re way off-model, it’s that they’re changing existing characters to look uglier intentionally. They’re restricting character customization to limit attractive options. They’re dressing characters poorly. Because attractive characters are now considered “problematic.” The takes here were rather reductive for a real problem.

Nah, I stand by my statement that Kay is the ugliest Star Wars character since Rose Tico. In both cases the character's facial bone structure isn't the problem: which appears to be all you guys are concerned with (while Aloy's redesign IS a facial structure problem). Both of their hairstyles are horrible, and both of their outfits are frumpy which *does* make the characters ugly. Characters aren't people. Artists creating OCs should be concerned with the character's figure, hairstyle, and outfit because *these* are the things that make characters iconic. *They* are the reason you can recognize Han, Luke, and Leia from their silhouettes alone. The designers made the characters look cool and unique and therefore when the IP gained popularity they became *iconic.* Outlaw's devs consciously chose to present their character this way and there is nothing wrong for calling it what it is: *ugly.* Had they given her a classic ponytail, some eyeshadow and lip-gloss, and put her in a colorful tight fitting outfit instead of bargain-bin clothes then gamers would be creaming instead of screaming about her. They didn't want to give fans what fans come to entertainment to get. Which has been the problem with SW this whole fing time.
I thought Rose was best-friend hot for like 1 minute; and then her personality ruined it. Same with Brie Larson; gorgeous IRL but the _character_ is trash

I guess it depends if they wanted more creative liberties with her since she’s an alien, as opposed to Janina or Debra Wilson where it’s supposed to be obvious that it’s them. Although I don’t give them a point for Debra because she’s already ugly, lol.
I think Eastern Devs actually just use the bodies and design faces afterwards. I know the main character of Stellar Blade had an original face design and they just copied over the body from the mocap actor.
I’m shocked that Rags of all people, who always looks at evidence for a thing before he comments on it (unless comedy), just refused to accept that companies are intentionally making their women characters look worse, and especially worse than the models they base them on. Maybe that's why bisexual Rags called her "gorgeous"? Not to mention, game developers OPENLY talk about fighting against "the male gaze." Its not a secret. And u can't look at Kay from Outlaws, and then the real life model, and tell me that they didn't uglify her on purpose.
What are you talking about lmfao they’ve been doing this strawman/steel man bullshit for a whiiiiiile now, it started heavy with HotD, or maybe that was the first time I really started to catch it but, yeah they don’t actually address real arguments, they just love to make the other side look extreme and then laugh about how stupid it is. It’s genuinely sad to see these guys go down that road instead of admitting something they like is bad; yanno just like they tell everyone else to do when bad movies come out and people defend them….
If they were consistent, they’d also be insulting Gary, Az, or Drinker, who make these exact same criticisms against games. Oh well, just keep insulting your own audience and ignoring what they’re actually saying, see how it works out for you, efap.
A while back, Rags threw the same hissy fit about people not liking Jill Valentine's design in the RE remake. Same tune about basement neckbeard virgins. It's embarrassing to watch someone be so insecure about their own aesthetic standards that they have to attack anyone with different ones.
49:00 Why are you guys trying to downplay and dismiss an obvious problem? We all know for a fact they are lying about the face tracing given the vast majority of males (including in fallen order) trace more 1:1 than females have because they EDIT the females faces to look more masculine, look into the developer's statements on why they changed Aloy's face in 2 after 1. Mary Jane, Aloy and this game's protagonist (I don't care to name her) are the cover image for the massive issues dragging down game development that YOU GUYS very accurately point out in this video. Why is this a hang up for all of you? Are you being so petty that you don't want give people like Vee, Sythetic ma'am, and ItsAGundam an obvious W? I guess we'll just all have to accept seeing nothing but big booba anime whamen in our games for the next 5 to 10 years since the West is looking at East for where all the money is going. Especially since Sony lost $400 million on Concord. P.S. Rags, either stop lying or get better standards dogo.
I remember taking these mandatory mini courses back in high school and one of them had something to do with promotion and advertisement departments. I don't remember much about it, but I do remember them saying "you'd think in a scale of 1 to 10, the 'neutral' opinion is a 5, right? Wrong! It's actually a 7. To the industry, when you give a 7, that's neutral." And I spent the rest of that mini course thinking "what's the point of considering 7 the average when literally every layman thinks neutral is a 5 and will say 5 if they are neutral on the topic, and the layman is 99% of the population?"
She isn't ugly though. Is she drop dead gorgeous? No. She looks like a normal woman with a bad hair cut. Just because she isn't gorgeous like the model is doesn't mean she's ugly. I think they should've used how the model looks cause, whew she do be a cutie, but taking the in game model as a separate person/model itself she looks very normal.

I looked up the voice cast of Outlaws. I wanted to see if the voice actors matched their in-game characters on appearance. To the shock of no one, the cast look identical to their characters in game, hell, Asara looks like his voice actor but just with the head tentacles. However, there was one character who looked nothing like her in game character... take a guess who that was.
Andy Serkis should sue for LotR and Planet of the Apes for uglifying his character. Josh Brolin is gonna be getting quite a check from Marvel as well for that.
I decided to have a look at the voice cast too, and there is a bunch that do not look identical to their in-game counterparts. Not talking about the aliens, of course.

Shame Rags for defending Far Cry. The Far Cry series has copy-pasted Far Cry 3 for almost a decade and done very little to evolve the games. They're a great example of Ubisoft's stagnation, regardless of how well they sell.
The whole "Female faces are ugly" isn't about whether or not the end result would overall be considered attractive or not. That is a strawman of what is actually happening, The issue is they are seemingly deliberately (well, we know the reason, "muh male gaze") botching/altering the facial scans of real people that they are supposedly using for reference, when anybody with any knowledge of the industry can see that the "it's too hard" argument is complete BS. Plenty of studios have managed to make facial scans almost exact, and your quiet from MGSV is from a decade ago is an excellent example, and it's not just the eastern gaming industry that can replicate faces like that. The technology is there, and there's plenty of evidence to show that it's possible and relatively normal for a competant studio. Look at the Dead Space remake, Isaac Clarke is the spitting image of Gunner Wright, SuperMassive's entire library, (and for an eastern dev that's been doing this for ages) the RE team, which IIRC even modified some of their character modes but still managed to capture the likeness of the reference (such as with Ashley) and do far more justice to the people that their character models are based on. I know EFAP likes to be contrarian, but I know you guys know the context, so stop the excuses here. There is a trend, and it does match with the ideological motivations of a lot of agents in the industry, we're just waiting for them to outright say it.
I would imagine that they agree that there is a trend. Discussing why there is a trend is something they don't want to discuss because it becomes speculative and subjective very fast. And ultimately how attractive Key Vess looks affects so miniscule amount on how bad SW_Outlaw is, especially when she is still clearly a woman and very decent woman even if worse than her real life counterpart. Its very rare that looks of any character affect the gaming experience of any game that much.
It's funny how the efap crew comes up with more fun game mechanics and plot ideas than the actual game has within just minutes. Even from a dev perspective, most of their ideas would be very reasonable to implement. But that would require time and planning. And effort.
I can't wait to tell my future grandchildren "I was there when EFAP played Linkin Park" as they sit there in total awe. As EFAP manager, Jay should be kicked and cancelled.

I’d need to finish the last half of this episode but Alanna Pearce( I hope I got her name down right.) about IGN reviews legitimately got me angry. Her condescending attitude was annoying but her essentially putting down indie games while propping AAA is infuriating. Just because a piece of art doesn’t have mainstream backing shouldn’t be indicative of quality. Especially when some of those indie titles manage to nail down basic game mechanics when these AAA studios can’t seem to bother doing that well. And also as a developer myself, I feel the need to stick up for indie devs because making a game by yourself is a big endeavor. Judge them on the merits of the game. But don’t be such a d bag when trying to put down indie developers for the AAA industry. Some of my favorite games happen to be indie. Nine Sols I’m recently going through and that’s an indie studios. Really liking it.

She even did the same female faces & bodies are too hard to model gaslighting defense. Ironically they shrunk her generous feminine "dimensions" in Cyberpunk. To add extra irony she was ushered into the gaming sphere because she was a real hot gamer girl. Way back years ago when attractive women were desired by the industry.

“No one knows about these games, therefore we don’t have to review them.” You’re a review site. You’re supposed to try a _variety_ of games to tell me _which_ ones to buy or avoid. All this tells me is your site is a trend-chaser that doesn’t care about finding the diamonds in the rough. And if you’re reviewing big games everyone is excited for, if it’s bad, how many people are you actually going to be able to deter? If everyone’s excited, they’re probably just gonna buy it regardless. So your review on them is ultimately worthless. And it’s even more worthless when said games automatically get a 5/10 for existing, where 6 is okay so that’s 4 of 5 ratings options that are positive, and if “reviewers opinions are the same as anyone else’s” then why read/watch your reviews in the first place? There’s no level of authority and you know they’ll be scored positively.
The best part about all the criticisms in the comments is that they won’t take any into consideration, because even tho they PREACH how studious should listen to fans, EFAP doesn’t care. Good job insulting your audience and lying about an actual issue. No, it's not as problematic as the story or characters or the gameplay or anything else far more present and obvious, but it also sets precedents that you will come to regret. Taking 'attractiveness' out of the situation, imagine an actress modeling for a game and then the character looks nothing the same and thus said actress is either not paid beyond the labor given from modeling or she doesn't get gigs because other employers see that she's not very accurate when put into the game (or worse they blame the poor ratings on the actual actress rather than the devs who refused to make something accurate). A bit back to the attraction, I would be heavily insulted if I modelled for a game and the ending result is Mortal Kombat 1, Spider-Man 2, Horizon 2, or SW Outlaws. You don't think it's a problem when you compare the 3D model to the actress and just auto-assume that's not the actual actress?
I’m not really in favour of Hollywood face scans (or at least, the more prominent actors where it can take you out of the experience). So I personally have leeway with not being a spitting image of the actor/actress, even though that’s kind of a waste if they’re also the voice actor or used to heavily promote the game. That said, even if you want to use them only as a basis, the final result should still be appealing, and in a lot of cases it just isn’t. Also, I kind of hate this argument that “only gameplay matters”. Most games are very similar. If anything, you could have two of the same games and one will appeal to you more simply because of the aesthetic (either execution or genre like: space, western, steampunk, etc). It is a VIDEO game after all. Visuals are just as important because you’ll be LOOKING at it 100% of the time, but you technically won’t be playing 100% of the time because of cutscenes or menus or whatever. If I have an option of two similar puzzle games and one looks cute like Astro Bot and the other looks grotesque like Scorn, I’m not going to play the latter because I find it personally disgusting. Because I’m not really into gore. This isn’t to say horror visuals are “wrong” because they’re meant to be gross looking, but that is considered an appealing (in a sense) design based on what they’re trying to make (a gross out game). When you have something that is supposed to look good, but aspects are ugly that don’t serve a purpose (like a seedy underground area or an abandoned area), then there’s gonna be a mismatch of expectations. Also, unless ugly in a funny kind of way (like Fat Nathan Drake), people just aren’t going to want an ugly protagonist to control for 10-100h. Ironically the industry will whine there should be more female players, but one of the things they like is a character they can customize to look like themselves and be able to dress them up. Meanwhile, studios will make even more limited character creators and ugly clothing options. I’m not a woman, but there’s nothing I hate more than a game with ugly costumes. Because I’ll do almost anything for a costume. They’re just as fun rewards to unlock as new mechanics/skills. In-game currency, consumables or even some items/equipment don’t even come close, even if those might be functionally more useful (well maybe not more useful than new skills, but obviously more than costumes).
One of the really fucked things about not being able to shoot from the speeders is that the trailer that they plastered all over youtube and twitch EXPLICITLY shows Kay shooting other vehicles while driving around. Its incredibly deceptive of them.

@@AfutureV You can do that without being disingenuous and intentionally misrepresenting/framing things. Like he did with the uglification problem in gaming. Unless there are compelling narrative reasons to create unattractive characters, a game with attractive characters is objectively better than the same game with unattractive ones. I really don't understand why the EFAP gang (and this is not the first time) would just mock people who are finding some characters ugly and unappealing, it has the same energy of a group of high school dorks who are saying "We don't care how people looks, only the personality matters!" Sorry but no, looks matter a lot especially when you met a person the first time. Besides, you don't have a saying in what is a "normal face", by the very subjective nature of attractiveness the final saying is a provocatio ad populum that sets the bar of what is considered acceptable and what not. Of course, it's a fuzzy line that change depending on the time, location and culture you're living in in but I think that we can agree on the fact that what is considered "beautiful" here in the West is pretty much universally agreed by most of the people living in this planet. Ergo, if most of the people are complaing about how Kay Vess looks they're right and you're wrong. The *why* is actually another can of worm that a lot of channels here have already covered up and it's not needed to be repeated but is strong enough to make the decision of creating an objectively inferior product. I would have liked a more unbiased position instead of the usual "touch grass" (looking at you Theo) otherwise I'm going directly to Reddit or X and read the random comments of people with pronouns in their bio.
I assume that it is not the idea that people are complaining about this issue that made the EFAP crew say "touch grass" but the fact that people put so much weight on it. Sure it sucks that this is a thing that games are currently doing this but talking about the quality of the games is much more important. Things like the story, the game play, and performance are leagues more important than this issue and it is strange to see this many people getting riled up about. If the whole game is dying why focus in on the fact that you find the main character uglier than the actor? Also EFAP mainly focuses on the objective as opposed to the subjective. You said it yourself that attractiveness is pretty subjective. Thus talking about how pretty the main character is becomes entirely worthless when talking about the quality of the game. You say it makes an "objectively worse" despite also claiming attractiveness to be subjective. I will leave you with this hypothetical. Imagine that Star Wars Outlaws came out and had the same quality as Red Dead Redemption 2. Would you really call this version of Star Wars Outlaws an objectively worse game than RDR 2 because the main character is uglier than the actor who plays them?
Exactly! I've been saying this for years! If Abe and all the other Mukodons were actually sexy frog monkey monsters those games would be objectively better experiences!
@@kingblue2632 To respond to your hypothetical: yes, of course, it would be an objectively worse game. I've also said that even being beauty entirely subjective to an individual level it's not at all at a cultural level: there's a reason why every morning you wash your face, apply cosmetics, trim your beard, etc. because even if unspoken and impossible to quantify there's a minimum standard of beauty that's demanded from people to be met and failing to do so would signal an unwell individual. When players from every part of the world are pointing and laughing at how western games are uglyfying women you can't just dismiss the thing as "touch grass" "I don't care" "looks normal to me" because it's clearly a factor that many people are taking in consideration and most of all, noticing.

When I saw MauLer playing the eating minigame I thought to myself, wouldn't it be funny if when you failed the quick-time events it played an overly dramatic, overplayed cutscene of Kay and Nix dying from whatever food they were eating. For example, with the spicy one when you failed the drinking the water quick-time, Kay starts choking on the water and falls backwards off the bar stool and you just see the game-over screen plastered over her glazed-over eyes and frothing mouth while she's staring up at the ceiling. Or when you fail to remove Nix's tongue from the ice chunk, the chef robot cuts it off with his buzz knife in a failed attempt to save him and he starts bleeding out while Kay screams "Nix! Nix! No!" Imagine the hilarious variability you could have with that.
2:56:14 “Fun” is so disingenuously used nowadays that it’s a red flag for mediocrity/garbage. It’ll be used defensively (well “I” had fun, unlike so and so because they’re just a meanie!), as if anyone with mild criticism is ungrateful and hateful for not worshipping whatever is put in front of them. Those people are the key-jangling audience. If in this case, the Star Wars IP was swapped out for a new, generic sci-if aesthetic, no one would care or defend it because the mechanics are poor and the game is broken. Then again, it seems like he’s shilling for Ubisoft rather than Star Wars, but you get the point. It’s used to say anyone with criticism just has unfairly high standards and it’s “actually” good/decent but are biased against it. When the reality is their standards are so low and their identity/enjoyment is around this piece of media being good that they have to defend it at all costs. You know they’re desperate when they use extremes “it’s not THE MOST AMAZING THING EVER but it’s still great/a GOAT/one of the best [something or others]”. These people can’t even say something is mixed like “I like this part, but this other part is poor/sucks”. It’s like that guy that said everything is “peak fire”, despite saying “we’re back” which means there was a low point.

4:59:32 - Photons have mass. If they didn't, they wouldn't be affected by black holes. And things like solar sails wouldn't work. They don't have REST mass, since any particle with rest mass would require infinite energy to go the speed of light. Since photons ARE light and they obviously go the speed of it, they must not have rest mass. As a result, it's sort of physics shorthand that photons are massless, but that's not really true. They have SOME form of mass that gives them momentum and energy. Physicists just don't know what to call it. Light is really, really weird.
This is mostly correct as a description of what happens in the universe, but "physicists dont know what to call it" isnt. They have studied the properties of photons qyite extensively, and typically, theyre described as being massless, but possessing positive momentum. That is, momentum, rather than just being a product of speed and mass, is fundamental to a similar level as energy and can be possessed by massless particles. As for gravity, photons are affected by gravity because gravity warps spacetime and photons follow the curve. You could, technically, say that photons arent massless because they have energy and theres a mass-energy equivalence. But thats really the only way "photons are massless" isnt true. Using those terms in the sense generally understood by modern science, its a true statement.

They definitely don't look like their actors but the point the cast made was that they are not *ugly*
@jamesavis1 sure they're not ugly. They're very pretty men.
EFAP and especially the guests as a whole have gotten out of touch. It's just hyperbole and spouting insults at anyone who has a differing opinion.

So less attractive people can't be main characters? So insanely sad to argue about 😂😂😂😭😂😭😂😭😂😭😭😂😭😂
@@TobyLerone76
They can.

Dev is annoying. To totally dismiss the uglifycation of female characters is so disingenuous.
Humans are good at recognizing patterns and there are multiple incidents of this.
Mary Jane - Spider Man 1 to 2 made uglier
Aloy - game 1 to game 2 uglier
Not sure if anyone remembers.
It's quite funny if you think about it that people who they're trying to represent cannot even be recreated in this type of character creators :x
You can't make a boulder and you can't make a avarge (at least in the UK) African female with big both (or maybe all of them) sides of her body...
Oh, Bad Faith Dev has self destructed in the last few months. Always been annoying but definitely spiraled.
Devs a chaser, he likes masculine looking women.

The designers made the characters look cool and unique and therefore when the IP gained popularity they became *iconic.*
Outlaw's devs consciously chose to present their character this way and there is nothing wrong for calling it what it is: *ugly.* Had they given her a classic ponytail, some eyeshadow and lip-gloss, and put her in a colorful tight fitting outfit instead of bargain-bin clothes then gamers would be creaming instead of screaming about her. They didn't want to give fans what fans come to entertainment to get. Which has been the problem with SW this whole fing time.
I thought Rose was best-friend hot for like 1 minute; and then her personality ruined it.
Same with Brie Larson; gorgeous IRL but the _character_ is trash

I’m shocked that Rags of all people, who always looks at evidence for a thing before he comments on it (unless comedy), just refused to accept that companies are intentionally making their women characters look worse, and especially worse than the models they base them on. It doesn’t matter if you don’t think the in-game character is completely horrid or not, the fact of the matter is that they are absolutely doing that.
Just because Synthetic Man said this, doesn’t mean it isn’t true.
50:57 This right here is the moment where EFAP became Kotaku. Insult and make the worst assumptions about the people criticizing the thing. They are doing the exact thing they've criticized others for before: cherry picking the extreme worst examples they can come up with. Why are you talking to those people, if they even exist? Come back to the real world where normal people are talking about this.
EFAP is supposed to be better than this. Rags and Theo once again demonstrating they can be as bad as some of the worst they cover on this podcast.
It's especially funny hearing the "stumble over your words, no eye contact, basement gremlin" garbage from Theo, the guy with an unironic anime girl profile picture. Oh, sorry did that sound like a incorrect and irrelevant generalization? Hmm...
Yeah Theo really surprised me with that one. Not to mention, the girl from Horizon Zero Dawn 2 is objectively ugly. She looks like a butch lesbian truck driver.
"Fuggin gorgeous" I guess Rags is into fat lesbians

We’re all stupid extremists who don’t have any valid opinions unless we agree with them. My respect has been waning since house of the dragon but it’s all but entirely drained now.
Is this supposed to be a super meta ironic comment or did you do that by accident? EFAP panellists say what they authentically think, and are allowed to discuss the wider discourse. Having a little huffy puff because their opinion diverged from yours and straw-manning what they actually said into calling their own audience "extremists" is a weird goblin tactic. They're here to discuss and share, not say what they think you want to hear. That'd be pandering and disingenuous, which is exactly what none of us want.
Nah, they might cherry pick the most ridiculous ones to shallowly address and insult on a later stream.
@QuantumRangerPower that exactly wjat they will do. They will give us the SyntheticMan treatment xD
@@QuantumRangerPower
And if they do pick a top comment, they’ll just do what they did with the last of us tv show comments and pretend they have no clue what that person is talking about and laugh at them
@@captbuckyohare5585ok but they’re also here to talk down to people who disagree with them even if that person has valid reasoning. It’s why I didn’t take them getting upset at keem calling chat peasants seriously because that’s very clearly always been how they view chat. That any dissenter is a moron
"They don't drop money bags on our desks and asks us to give good reviews. Even if they did, why would they ask for a 7?" 'Cuz a 10 would be an admission of guilt and would probably end IGN? How are Dustborn, Concord and Outlaws 7's? At least Dustborn is playable as far as I've heard. But compared to Wukong and Stellar Blade? They are leagues apart in quality yet only one point away from each other????
Edit: Even if we agree that they have different reviewers, that just speaks for the need to standardize the scoring. "This is what we expect from a game to get this score"
Reminds me of school bullies in 90s movies telling the nerd "hey, make my homework a C+ this time, the A's look suspicious". Apparently these people aren't even THAT smart (or are just far too naive).
We going to need you to get all the way off our back about that

Kay if freakishly ugly. And Aloy is okay in the first game, but a bit fugly in the second.
@@captbuckyohare5585 Yes, it would.

Rags used to them arkansas 8s to think the downy face of aloy is "gorgeous", same for kate or whatever her name is. Them being ugly isnt the problem, its the reason why they look like that. Thats what pisses people off. Back in the day a girls attractiveness wasnt tied to any political alignment. It is what it is.
I agree with Fringy, the Google Dinosaur game is the best video game ever made
He's such a lad
Aloy looks like nick avocado
We now live in a work where Nick Avocado looks better than Aloy in Forbidden West.
Nix! No!"
Imagine the hilarious variability you could have with that.
Whenever someone says "fun idea," I assume the idea sucks
There are so many things in Outlaws that decade old games such as GTAV, FNV and MGSV did so much better. Ubisoft has no excuses.
4:18:25~ Thank you Rags, This was something that I was complaining about in just about everybody's stream when I caught them. The aliens are all speaking English when they shouldn't have lips or tongue, and the squid ones have beaks, and the bat one wasn't speaking English but in everything else they spoke in bat-like squeaks but here it talks Huttese for some reason. It really, really bothered me.
Well EFAP went full tism in the "ugly" part of this.
Apart from that, good efap because mah boy God Hand game was defended. God Hand deserves justice. SO i give this EFAP a 7/10
4:59:32 - Photons have mass.
@@teneleven5132 Neat! Thanks for the correction!
