    Another great video - thanks! I'd love to see a washing-up/packing-away extension to these vids. It would be really useful to see how easy (or otherwise!) it is to get the cookware clean, and how much water you use for the job, and which additional kit it requires.

      That’s a great idea!
      In all honesty with this particular meal. I put it all in a dry bag and slung it in my backpack to wash and sort at home.
      But you’re right. It’s as important as the rest of the process.
      I’ll be sure to do this at the next available opportunity.

    Other than the cold soak of the pasta- i use the same recipe at home for carbonara! I use a msr windburner for most of my outdoor cooking- i have the skillet and have produced similar meals using that instead of the pot, or taken both with me, bring water to the boil in the pot, take off the heat and add my pasta to rehydrate off the heat whilst preparing the rest of the meal in the skillet, pasta only takes 10mins or so and can also use the pasta water to reduce some of the sauce. Yes its taken another item in my cookset but the bacon sarnies for breakfast is definitely worth it!

      Agreed. I love taking a skillet. I just got the trangia micro and I WISH they had a skillet. Even if it’s a tiny one it’s still useful.

    Nice one that Primus Lite Plus, the 3 knobs that does it more versatile is an great add on. I could easily consider one. Primus is as proven (not the particular design) and one of our oldest manufacturers with outdoor solutions, an old Swedish manufacturer. Look forward to more cooking my friend!

      Another reason why I went for Primus was the company’s pedigree.
      They’re now owned by the same company that own Fjallraven I understand.
      But yes. The 3 knobs are what made it special for me. And they’re so convenient there on the handle.

      The way the stove attaches to the cup is great, the stove quality is great, the rest is total rubbish. The lid falls off if you don't hold it on when pouring, its so loose you can just shake the pot for it to fall off, the holder for the pot support crews scratches the lid, the coozy is badly fitted, and the pour spout is tiny , you have to make sure you align the pour spout so when it dribbles it does not just dribble down the side of the lid retention strap, the handle is long so it reaches over the top of the lid, but this means if you just use the handle to hold the stove it dangles at a precarious angle !

    • @Braapncamp

      @@Chris66able Sounds like great oportunities to update the stove to a Lite ++ then. Great user input to Primus!

      I personally didn’t find these things to be as frustrating as your experience. That said, I rarely use this type of stove.

    Well done 👍. Can’t go wrong with carbonara in the great outdoors! Primus makes some fantastic stuff. I eventually switched to the Jetboil Minimo though because the wider pot is a bit more conducive to cooking a meal like this. I always preferred how primus stored the little pan support pegs in the handle for though!

    I bought one of these Primus stoves last week. Mainly because the new Jetboils can’t be stripped down in the field like the Primus can if the jet needs to be cleared (which can happen).
    However, I’ll be interested to see you using anything other than the trangia mess tin on it. The frypans and wide pans I have don’t sit well on the three pegs at all. I’m hoping Primus come out with a better solution.
    The Primus is better made than the jetboil but the jetboil pot support is far better.
    Just my thoughts!

    I've got an earlier version of that Primus called the Eta Lite. In mine one of the screws for the pot stand worked loose and disappeared. So I can't use another pot on it. After having had fun cleaning it after burning some food in it due to not turning it down quick enough, I now only use it for thin soups/noodles or boiling hot water. If I'm doing a cooking meal I'll take one of my Trangias, or my Svea 123, or my Optimus Polaris, or another of my multitude of stoves.

    • @OffTheBeatenPot
      @OffTheBeatenPot  11 месяцев назад

      So many good stoves in your collection!
      I live my svea. Takes me back to camping as a kid.
      I looked at a second hand eta lite. They must be amazing as they seem to be holding their value well. And you can buy spare screws for them still.
      It is tricky to regulate the heat on these things. I would rather cook this particular meal on a trangia but I wanted to show people what’s possible.

      If you contact primus directly they have great customer service so you could get a re placement lug. I burnt a massive hole in the fabric sleeve, very much user error and they sent a replacement for free when I enquired if you could buy a replacement one.

    Love the cold soak idea, that’s good to know. Will that work with rice too? Any guide on timings for that? An hour too?

    • @OffTheBeatenPot
      @OffTheBeatenPot  11 месяцев назад +1

      Yes it can work. Some things to note.
      Rice will swell. So slightly more than cover the rice and check it regularly. It should take around 1.5 to 2 hours.
      Make sure you then finish it off with heat to make sure it’s cooked properly!
      Other wise use ‘instant rice’. This takes about as long to soak but doesn’t necessarily need the heat.
