I took delivery of an identical Electrified G80 in July, with the addition of the Solar Panel roof. Here in the UK Genesis is a much smaller brand, with a different business model in that there are no dealers, just a few 'studios' across Europe and the UK. The idea is, Genesis deal directly with the customer, by demonstrating the cars from your home, and then after purchase a collection and delivery service by transporter, where the car is taken in the case of here to one nationwide Service centre, with everything free of charge including services for five years. Beyond the different sales and after sales set up, I entirely agree with your observations, it is the consumate luxury car with absolute refinement at the top of the list. Whilst the luxury cabin and high te h equipment being stand out features. Also the fact that the car is so rare here, and the fact that it bears more than a passing resemblance to a Bentley (Genesis head of design used to be head of design at Bentley), means it always attracts comments and looks from passers-by. These days all most manufacturer's are interested in are SUV's and making their cars sporty ie hard riding with austere cabins. Genesis should be congratulated for offering something different. The car for me is a real success and more than a match for any of the Jaguar's or Maserati saloons (sedans) i've owned over the last thirty years!
What a great review of a fantastic car. I agree with Zack that traditional luxury brands base a lot of their premium pricing on history, heritage and reputation. That said, I'm old enough to remember when Lexus and Infiniti got launched. Car and Driver called the original LS 400 "Toyota's attempt at luxury". Now Lexus is considered the benchmark for luxury and quality. I would personally put Genesis way above Cadillac, Lincoln, Infiniti, Acura and Tesla. Style, quality, reliability and innovation are key and I would say the G90 has nailed it!
Love Genesis…….waiting for GV70 EV…….for second vehicle. Still not sure if I want to go full EV or plug in hybrid. Still leaning towards plug in hybrid. Great review ! 👍
Beautiful job with this video Zack and Andrea! I always appreciate the playful spirit you treat each other with, but that the respect and love is always so clear. Thanks for bringing some light, and auto insight, into all of our lives!
Another pleasant happy review!! 😊 No wonder ‘Car and Driver’ said this car is what MB EQS should have been as the EQS is just meh!! Agreed Model Y was such a junk. We traded in for IONIQ 5 and the best thing we did. Model Y drives horrible at higher speed and so loud driving freeways.
Excellent review, guys, this car fits me quite well as a middle age empty nester and I’m carving more and more for a “luxurious” driving experience…. and I LOVE the fact that this car has no sunroof lol…. full disclosure I’m always a big fan of this Korean conglomerate and I’m currently driving my lovely Kia Sorento PHEV
Oh yes Andrea, the Genesis car line is a very luxurious product that looks fabulous and full to the brim with all the extras you could ever want 😀 don't argue with Andrea Zack when it comes to preferences lol
Whether you are the driver or the passenger, you'll enjoy the comfort level and elegance of this vehicle, we really enjoyed having it for a week. Brought back some good memories of the large sedans we used to own.
@@andreaspencer9813 I most certainly agree Andrea on all counts and yes it must have been emotional for you both driving such a sedan to bring back happy memories! 😊
That is a great looking car! I've had six cars since 2003 and my wife has had five. All of them had sunroofs and we never used them. The only reason we had them is because they were part of a higher trim package that we wanted and the sunroof was a part of it.
Truly beautiful vehicle. Genesis makes very attractive and well appointed vehicles from the bespoke GV60 to the GV80. An alternative choice in the luxury market at a better price point with a longer warranty. Come on, this vehicle fully loaded is anywhere from *$50-90k less expensive* than its competitors. You could but another, yet smaller luxury vehicle with the savings.
From a price/value perspective, the electrified G80 is a good choice, if you are into luxury materials. I'm not ready for that price range, I take an Ioniq 6.
Ooohh Gorgeous luxury vehicle. You guys looks like you are enjoying driving GV80. I would be too. I guess we all deserve to have a luxury vehicle. Only thing I don’t like is whole is white. I guess I have buy a lottery ticket. 😆 Great video Andrea! 👍🏻👍🏻
This G80 is full of luxury, the white is beautiful when you see it in person but I know some may not want to worry about cleaning it. It certainly has a wow factor to it.
Thanks for the accurate review. I like the way the charging port is integrated into the front grille. It's a beautiful vehicle that I would consider. Looks like Andrea is looking younger everyday :)))
The sunroof 'debate' is the same with my wife and I, as is the cloth vs leather. If only more luxury makes offered a premium cloth option(only Porsche seems to offer this, as does Volvo on base trims)
So it was 20 degrees last night and my plugged in car had absolutely zero range loss after it took 5 minutes to warm up. It really isn't an issue unless you plan to let the car freeze in 0F temps and then drive it hard without plugging in.
@@TCPUDPATM So, do you leave the car plugged in while warming it up? My heated seats and heater kill my range. I travel, so not all hotel have chargers and a cold morning has me looking for a charger...
I think luxury is pampering. I don't think it has to even have heritage. I don't think being full of gadgetry and tech is enough if a car isn't pampering to be considered luxury. And with a car some level of isolation, quiet, exceptional smoothness and a level higher material quality is expected. This Genesis looks and apparently feels the part of a luxury vehicle and comes across as one. But the Ioniq 6 is a true BEV from the ground up. I bigger, more luxurious version of that car would have to be part of the Genesis brand to be an optimized Genesis lux sedan. Still, even compromised some, it's a luxurious, quiet sedan.
Great and enjoyable review as always, thank you! It amazes me that, with all their technology expertise, they still can't figure out wireless Android/Apple. It boggles my mind. As for me, I'm a bit disappointed with the range, which you indicated was around 280 miles. I live in Florida, and the main expressway is 70 miles per hour. That means I have to recharge after just 4 hours of driving. That's too soon. In all of your testing of vehicles and receiving comments from the public, do you have a feel for the kind of range people are seeking? Does a car like this with its range impress the majority? And, Zach, when you sit in the back and front, does it feel big or a bit limited in space? Thank you.
Well said Andrea regarding wireless CarPlay. It’s 2022 (almost 23) and it boggles the mind they still don’t offer this in higher trims across all brands. Shame!
Finally, a luxury sedan that I can get ‘charged’ about. Impressive. The $150,000 Lucid Air may be more impressive… but is more of a ‘Dream’ (see what I did there… Lucid’s ‘Dream Edition’). Genesis has nailed their look and stuck with it. Luxury should elevate your experiences, impress your senses (sound and touch) and cocoon you from the world…all whilst maintaining it’s elegance. The passenger’s experience must be paramount. I believe, especially with this offering, that Genesis has successfully achieved this. At a $100,000 I don’t really see any competitors within sight. It is an obvious Win in my opinion. Though I would like to see a non-panoramic sunroof. Great review. Thanks for the video.
IMO the front charger location is not good. All depends on how you setup your charging, but with a larger car front or back may have space issues in a garage.... Thoughts? Anyone? Why did you compare it to a Model S Plaid price and not the Dual motor? Oh maybe pricing you are doing is CAN?
Speaking of EV cars. Danish car magazine tested Toyota Bz4x, awd and fwd. Both achieved less than 47% of the claimed range. Switzerland is considering limiting EV use this winter to avoid blackouts.
I think the sunroof omission is due to the solar panel configuration offered in other countries. If not familiar, its a full roof solar panel that produces an estimated 266 kwh's a year. If i were to guess, id say DOT issues prevented inclusion here (for now...) but later models will hopefully incorporate the feature.
Its a beautiful car, in so many way, I love what Genius and Hyundai are building in the EV space these days. However with the price point CND, I wonder how it will sell? Is it viewed in a potential buyer's mind as luxury? Any idea how many they are projecting to sell in NA?
Love the car, BUT I hate the RANGE. Ok, Ok, I know, most people only drive 50 miles (or less) a day. However, sometimes even "most people" want to have fun. Drive to the beach? Charging station at the beach? (not at a real beach). Drive to the mountains? Charging station at the mountains? Drive to see Grand Ma? It is sad in 2023 there is only one electric car I would consider buying. Lucid Air. It is the ONLY electric car with real world range.
For the reason of Range, I own a PHEV. I can drive from Cali to NY if I want... Ok, better comparison, you can drive a PHEV from NY to Florida and never drive back!
The leather interior was impeccable. My complaint is the car's ability to charge, it took six hours to drive 240 miles. I tried to drive the car for a week. However, you must plan your trip to the t!!
Yeah they are great looking cars and they're actually built pretty good. HOWEVER WHEN IT COMES TIME TO GET THESE GENESIS SERVICED ITS A NIGHTMARE. my aunt bought a G70 2022 and it's a beautiful car...but!!! Trying to get that car service is a nightmare. WHY YOU ASK? Well I'll tell you, Hyundai doesn't have dealerships that are still willing to service the cars because the Hyundai dealerships didn't won't to update their dealerships to sale the luxury Genesis side of Hyundai and since most dealerships are privately owned they don't have to. So long story short if you buy a Genesis make sure there's a dealership near you that can and is willing to service your car. Not sure how it is in Canada but that's how it is in California
