Yeah, we broke through the front line so quickly that the reserve vehicles making up about half the total strength were still starting up making them easy prey.
The issue wasn't that they were still setting up. They had set up too far back to engage the bottom of the abrams hull as they crested the hill and this got obliterated.
In testimonies from the battle, US tank crews reported that Iraqi tank shells often hit the ground short as the Abrams hit them with impunity from the top of a ridge at range.
And almost all of the allied forces where obscured by dust while the iraqis were seen from beyond their range by thermal scopes and also having far inferior communication and intelligence directing them. If done over again the results should be the exact same.

Nice to see recreation of famous tank battles. There are a few problems. The Iraqi where surprised and the sand was much more blinding for the Iraqi troops
This was a good reenactment of the battle minus a couple things that War Thunder just isn't capable of in part. Firstly, there was a large sand storm during the battle that obscured the vision of both sides until American forces picked up targets on their thermal vision and engaged. The Iraqis could not see the American tanks due to the weather and lack of thermal equipment. As you said in the video the terrain was flat which helped the Americans because the Abrams with the assistance of thermal vision had a farther engagement range than the Iraqi T-55 and T-72 tanks. With this they were able to engage targets at will with the Iraqis not being able to conduct counter fire. You also had Bradleys that were mostly scouting vehicles minus having the TOW missile system for the troops with the Abrams in reserve that had the larger guns. You also had a lot more forces committed on the field than War Thunder can provide and with War Thunder of course being a video game there are certain aspects and solutions that you just can't accurately conducted. One of these is as someone else pointed out that a fair portion of the crews of the Iraqi tanks were out of their vehicles and for the ones in their vehicles I can almost guarantee they were not expecting the Americans to be there. Again overall a good reenactment and was fun to watch!

The desert was flat... like a solid white pool table. You could see, using just night vision goggles, about 20 KM at night during a decent moon. Also, no grass growing. You didn't have any type of grass until the "green desert" months of March, and even then, it never got more than about an inch or so high after the rains in March.
I believe that it was a tactical mistake for the Abrams to get much closer. With their optics advantages, tough frontal armor against the older Soviet tanks, and ability to kill them from nearly any angle, they would've been better off keeping the range advantage and whittling down the Iraqi numbers until they were low enough to close in on. Really, their biggest threat in that first round were the BMPs firing ATGMs.
The main issue here is that on the real Abrams, the lower glacis is, minimally, 1200mm RHAN equivelant thickness - and that's if it was just solid steel, because that's how much material is between the interior and exterior of the hull. The Abrams mantlet is also not a weak spot in real life, and neither is the top part of the hull where the drivers hatch is. It's fair to say the Abrams is gimped in WT, but so is every other NATO tank which all are missing armor all over the place. What I'd also like to point out is that the Iraqis didnt have many ATGM's available for their BMP's, and I can't actually find anything that says they actually used any ATGM's from a BMP at all during the battle of the 73 Easting
I know it’s as close as you can get but the version that was used is different than the one in game. The version was the M1A1HA with depleted uranium armor which made it almost impossible for anything to pen it. Most abrams should have it but probably fro balance reasons and because it’s classified it’s not on the M1A1HC, M1A1, M1A2, M1A2 sep. but du would be broken because first gen du would be completely invincible
First gen du creates a plasma forcefield around the tank that melts all kinds of projectiles incoming towards the tank. Trust me my uncle is joe biden.
@@Phapchamp no like it’s extremely strong. There are reasons why the abrams is the most survivable and protected tank in the world and this is why. The battle of 73 easting not a single abrams was damaged because it was just impossible to pen
@@Phapchamp okay cool 73 easting the abrams rolled over every explosive the Iraqis had and were completely un phased. Besides those are Saudi m1s which are an export version which lack the du of the U.S.. every single export variant doesn’t have du which is why they suffer damage while us ones don’t really. IEDs can damage them but how would depleted uranium do anything against that when du makes it invulnerable to any thing to the top. Most other tanks would suffer heavier damage than the abrams too because of the U.S. enhanced protection on the abrams along with having them be anti ied vehicles with diggers. Only 9 Abrams have been destroyed all of them scuttled by the crews or friendly fire. That’s a pretty hard thing to kill if no combat has actually destroyed one. So no an ied will not easily destroy a U.S. M1 abrams that’s just outlandish. Out of every tank in the world you pick the one that is the strongest against ieds
The thing is fcs isn’t really modeled into the game. Fire control is half of the firepower equation. That’s what gives usually western tanks a huge advantage over t72 variants
There's a weather mod floating around, maybe you tried and it wasn't on the latest version of the game, but if not, you totally should have used it, you could have gotten a sandstorm, much worse visibility, much more advantage to the US vehicles with thermals.
Things to remember about the real battle: it was a surprise engagement at night, the Iraqis didn't know until the last moment. There's also the training of the individual Iraqi crew members to account for, which wasn't very good.
Another important factor is the difference in crew quality as well as WT famously not being historically accurate, especially when USSR and Russian vehicles are concerned
Not 100 on this but another factor was that even though it was flatter, the Abrams range was greater than the Iraqi vehicles, which allowed for an American advantage
Both sides used artillery towards the end of the battle. The Iraqi batteries fired at Ghost Troop but their shots landed behind the American vehicles. In response, US self propelled guns used special radar to locate Iraqi guns and accurately return fire.
Reality is very different. Most of the Iraqis were not even aware of the American presence. They were in defense formations, and some crews were even not in the vehicles at all.
That is actually a massive misconception, the Bradleys killed more total Armored Vehicles (which consists of MBTs, IFVs, APCs, and Armored Cars or Armored Trucks). The Abrams still killed the lion's share of actual MBTs destroyed by ground forces.

Cool!🤩, Winther war next?🤩
Wow that was great, I wanna watch more soo I will sub and leave like :)
Great reenactment vid, if you plan on doing more of them later on, I have a suggestion that could be a real fun vid to make, it's about the Golan Heights, there is alot of videos and documentaries explaining what happened there, and it was one hell of a battle.
I swear all pilots in ground rb are programmed to fly straight in to the ground, great vid
Thanks
Fr
Yay this was worth the wait
Winter Abrams is meh and it was a blast to be apart of this amazing event!!! 10/10 would do again!
I was the BMP that killed the abrams first round!
FREEDOM🦅🦅🦅
You mean OPPRESION!!
@@evobsm2328 say that to communists, they know way better than you
Freedom who raaaaaahhhhhhh
@@lelandgrubson2736you mean america? You guys dont even have healthcare and your jobs dont pay as well. Everything goes to your 1% ers. Isnt that communism then? You can only choose between 2 bad presidents wich will be the sole rulling authority ( im sorry ). Being forced to choose between a crumbling old man or a delusional millionaire as president is pretty sad.
@@evobsm2328 healthcare insurance? In America? Do you live there?
Cause I definitely don't live there 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for organizing this, not meant as shade at you but I'll probably use this as evidence anytime someone tells me War Thunder is extremely realistic.
The desert was flat... like a solid white pool table. You could see, using just night vision goggles, about 20 KM at night during a decent moon. Also, no grass growing. You didn't have any type of grass until the "green desert" months of March, and even then, it never got more than about an inch or so high after the rains in March.
This is the coolest battle you have done yet!
Great video and great video idea
Is it just me or did muffins voice sound deeper? Not that it is bad it does set the mood very nicely.
I just got out of being really sick but doing much better now and hoping my voice will be a 100% back to normal soon
You can't remake a historical battle using warthunder, since the Abrams tanks in this game are gaijin fantasy tanks with little to no real armor.
Being able to shoot on the move played a major part of it. I miss my tank 😁
16:32 nice move by the Iraqi tank
I believe that it was a tactical mistake for the Abrams to get much closer. With their optics advantages, tough frontal armor against the older Soviet tanks, and ability to kill them from nearly any angle, they would've been better off keeping the range advantage and whittling down the Iraqi numbers until they were low enough to close in on.
Really, their biggest threat in that first round were the BMPs firing ATGMs.
Make more videos like this please
Pearl Harbor vid coming out soon:)
Fantastic video
That special needs A-10 Camo though lol
ok give one side cover to retreat & reload and give the other none i wonder who'll win...
U should do German: Leopard 2A6 vs us: Abram
I prefer videos without the chaos voice chat, but these are all wonderfully done!
Abrams need to travel as a wolfpack and shoot and move. Thats why we have those engines. Use them.
OMG there's so much freedom in this video that 25 Iraqi kids died just for seeing it...
@@apersondoingthings5689 Few hundred kilograms of improvised explosives and fertilizers begs to differ
Out of every tank in the world you pick the one that is the strongest against ieds
saying DU is impenetrable is just superweapon mentality
the main reason why USA won almost every engagement is intelligence & flexibility.
Did you simulate Iraqi tankers shitting themselves, putting on trainers, and running away?
The iraqis soon ate dinner that night with a noticeable lack of onions
oof That music from the menu of Desert Combat hits hard
The thing is fcs isn’t really modeled into the game. Fire control is half of the firepower equation. That’s what gives usually western tanks a huge advantage over t72 variants
Background music reminds me of desert combat mod for battlefield 1942
There's a weather mod floating around, maybe you tried and it wasn't on the latest version of the game, but if not, you totally should have used it, you could have gotten a sandstorm, much worse visibility, much more advantage to the US vehicles with thermals.
Next time around make sure to research load outs too. The Iraqis didn’t have the Konkurs missiles on their BMPs and only had Falangas.
Good point
Things to remember about the real battle: it was a surprise engagement at night, the Iraqis didn't know until the last moment. There's also the training of the individual Iraqi crew members to account for, which wasn't very good.
Another important factor is the difference in crew quality as well as WT famously not being historically accurate, especially when USSR and Russian vehicles are concerned
of course the man in the A-10 is a fellow scots man
Not 100 on this but another factor was that even though it was flatter, the Abrams range was greater than the Iraqi vehicles, which allowed for an American advantage
Iranian? 🤔😂 That must be the future version of the video.
2:40 “while the Iranian forces ….”Dudeeeee
"Son i remember when the iraq tried to attack us, that was the best target practicing of my life."
Both sides used artillery towards the end of the battle. The Iraqi batteries fired at Ghost Troop but their shots landed behind the American vehicles. In response, US self propelled guns used special radar to locate Iraqi guns and accurately return fire.
El Alamein next? Please:)
This shows that even war thunder players are better than Iraqi military was trained. 😂😂😂
I was gonna comment that!
Maybe make more cinematic shots like from above diffrient perspectiv
to be really accurate you'd need a bunch of noobs in the iraqi tanks and some of the best players in the world in the Abrams.
Yes
Reality is very different. Most of the Iraqis were not even aware of the American presence. They were in defense formations, and some crews were even not in the vehicles at all.
Interesting that in Warthunder the Bradleys are a hinderance while in real life they killed more tanks than Abrams did.
That is actually a massive misconception, the Bradleys killed more total Armored Vehicles (which consists of MBTs, IFVs, APCs, and Armored Cars or Armored Trucks). The Abrams still killed the lion's share of actual MBTs destroyed by ground forces.
