I have a 2022 X5m and I saw the new 5 series parked side by side to my car and literally the 5 series is longer than my x5m and almost as wide, so I am not surprised it weighs the same lol

Just like there is no longer a short wheelbase version of the 7-series to accommodate for the space the batteries in the i7 need. They made the wheelbase of the 5series extra long to fit the batteries in there, this gen 5 series has almost the same wheelbase as the last gen short wheelbase 7 series. So yea its heavy af and long.
The Hofmeister-Knick is still a design feature with present models, only that it’s being slightly altered here and there, sometimes with a few more edges, blacked out …

Maybe putting the car down a bit and get the tires further out will already help with that feel, we will see But I think we can probably now say for sure that the M5 peaked with the F90 2021. What BMW should've done with the new M5 is do something similar to what Chevy did with the Corvette E-Ray, where it's simply a mild hybrid system rather than a plug-in hybrid and the electric motors recharge themselves. In my humble opinion, the F90 M5, which came out in 2018 is the most beautiful out of all the M5 generations, specifically the facelift which came out in 2021 and we got the beast that is the M5 CS.
I think that we’ve been spoiled with BMW designs in the past. I think this car will look better in person and can maybe grow on us like the M3/M4 eventually did, but who knows

When you approach an M5 is like a matured car but you open the door only to find out you're in your son's room with all this annoying light shows. This car is supposed to be used my matured individuals it is not a playful car like the M3 and immature M2 so we stick to the old stuff.
The hybrid aspect is because the legislations. There are some cities where soon you will not be allowed to drive a car that is not atleast a hybrid. And you cannot make a high end super saloon without have it be allowed to drive through towns
I feel like the design would be perfect modern if they kept them more of a boxy rear fenders like the M2. It kind of harks back to the E30 M3 and not done that weird diaper thing down the middle of the rear diffuser. If you look at the original rendering it was a solid across and if they kept that it would be a perfect 10/10 modern BMW IMO

The comments on the weight of the car … we get it. This thing is ridiculously heavy. Everyone needs to just wait on the driving impressions. There are some cars that are wider than the base model that have a widebody kit look to them (WRX, GR Corolla) that still look like they're meant to be there because the styling accentuates the wheel arches. On the M3 and M5, the wider hump over the round wheel arch is interrupted by a straight line of the door.
Disregarding the technical specs of this car, mainly its weight problem, it actually doesn't look bad. I do wish they kept the chunky taillights though.
The G90 M5 is the first M5 in history to be slower than it's predecessor. If this new M5 lost about 1,000 lbs or was the same weight as the F90 M5 CS, it would be the greatest M5 of all time...
I legitimately don't know what's going on with BMW Design, but no one can convince me they know what they're doing when they intentionally decided to *not* surface the junction between the rear door and rear haunch.

I do wonder if the initial reviews have missed the main point of this new M5. Reviewers are not focussing on its super low 50g/KM emissions and the tax breaks this enables, bringing the car firmly into consideration by company car drivers. It is also priced cheaply against high end rivals (think Panamera, new Bentley). When you take account of these two points, the new car keeps a ICEV8 based M5 alive as opposed to a fully electric model. I suspect in time the strategic motivation of BMW M Division will be recognised and the car will be successful. I have owned several M5s and RS6 as my daily-driver in the past. I don't want an electric car and I don't want to spend £150k to £220k on a Panamera or Bentley. I also want a V8, and I like the coherent and better proportioned styling of this new M5 (something I cannot say for most BMW's since Chris Bangle initiated his surface-flaming evolution). I have also had many 911 Turbos/Turbo S and I see that Porsche have done a similar exercise with their latest 911 to the extent the ICE has been maintained and the electric motor/hybridisation is largely there to reduce emissions (although I see how super clever electric motor tech is deployed to drive the turbo). All food for thought. Replies from fellow petrol heads would be appreciated.

Since turbo charging the 4.4 it’s been nothing but problems - adding the fact it’s a plug-in hybrid - this is going to be scary long term.

Y'all complaining about the weight, until you get an accident in one and survive. Most of these won't be hooned around on a track anyway so what's your deal with the weight?
I do wonder if the initial reviews have missed the main point of this new M5. Reviewers are not focussing on its super low 50g/KM emissions and the tax breaks this enables, bringing the car firmly into consideration by company car drivers. It is also priced cheaply against high end rivals (think Panamera, new Bentley). When you take account of these two points, the new car keeps a ICEV8 based M5 alive as opposed to a fully electric model. I suspect in time the strategic motivation of BMW M Division will be recognised and the car will be successful. I have owned several M5s and RS6 as my daily-driver in the past. I don't want an electric car and I don't want to spend £150k to £220k on a Panamera or Bentley. I also want a V8, and I like the coherent and better proportioned styling of this new M5 (something I cannot say for most BMW's since Chris Bangle initiated his surface-flaming evolution). I have also had many 911 Turbos/Turbo S and I see that Porsche have done a similar exercise with their latest 911 to the extent the ICE has been maintained and the electric motor/hybridisation is largely there to reduce emissions (although I see how super clever electric motor tech is deployed to drive the turbo). All food for thought. Replies from fellow petrol heads would be appreciated.

I'm a wholesale car buyer for a large auto group. I also daily drive a 22 Mustang GT. But this new M5 is fantastic...best M5?
