ஏதோ ஒரு சூழ் நிலையில் தான் அவர்கள் குற்றவாளிகள்.
I had worked in Dept of Corrections in Washington State. I had visited high security prisons. We too have various programs for the prisoners in the prisons, that would transform them such that they can merge into the society as a very responsible person. This idea of dance therapy seems to be really good. It is very hard to implement though! However, I will suggest to my ex-colleagues when I meet them next time and ask them to explore the feasibility. [Perhaps, they might have introduced, which I might not be aware!]
I really appreciate the fearless and compassionate young female teacher, and also the police officer who volunteered to dance with the prisoners. I am so delighted to see the smiles on the faces of the prisoners. Prison life is not just a punishment alone, but lots of opportunities/trainings are given to the prisoners depending upon their areas of strengths. I know a prisoner, who has started a business (based on the training he had been given in the prison), and he is a millionaire and is offering jobs to ex-prisoners in his company!
Prisoners can be violent at times; they are human beings and they too have hidden love and talents. Sincere prison officers with true love and compassion plus authorized programs can always bring many positive changes among the prisoners. During my visit to one of the prisons, I talked to a person (prisoner) who was working in the kitchen, and his words touched me, "I did commit mistakes in my life when I was a free man; I was sentenced to life without Parole. Now, here, I am dedicating my life in servicing my co-prisoners with good food, and I feel happy when I get positive feedback about my cooking". He hung his head down. I saw tears in his eyes. He may not see the free world again (unless our Governor pardon him); but he sincerely repented to me for his past mistakes.
Visiting prisoners is not an easy experience. You might have heard Mahabharat stories. One important incident I must narrate here. In order to win the war (kill his own teacher, Dhronocharya), Tharumar had to tell a half-lie. The lie was: Bheema was telling loudly, "I killed Ashuthama (meaning son of Dhronocharya)", but he really killed an elephant with the same name as Dhronocharya's son. On hearing the words of Bheema, Dhronocharya was asking Tharumar [Tharumar had been a truth teller - never spoke lie], "Is Ashuthama being killed?". Tharumar said, "Yes". Dhronocharya threw away his weapons, and immediately Sikandi killed Dhronocharya.
For this single lie, Tharumar was forced (sort of punishment) to visit Narakaloga on this way to Vaikuntaloga. He started visiting/viewing the level one prison; then level two, level three,.... Tharumar's heart was emotionally started crying by seeing sufferings of the people in each level of the Narakaloga/hell. The suffering intensity increases as he had been moving from lower level to higher level. Ultimately he reached the 7th level (the highest level of punishment). He didn't want to see the 7th level at all as his heart is almost broken by viewing the previous 6 levels. But he had to look at the 7th level too. He looked at the 7th level, the punishments of the highest level. Who were there? Dhuriyodhana & his brothers (1 + 100). They were all crying and begging, the moment they saw Tharumar's face, "Anna, we caused you immense problems to you (and your brothers), and we were punished; we lost the war and kingdom to you, and now we have been suffering in this hell for the past 2000+ years; please forgive us. Can you please relieve us from this suffering?". Without speaking a word, Tharumar extended his hand; all the 101 brothers caught hold of his arm. Tharumar pulled them all out of the hell in no time. The hell-offices who were accompanying Tharumar said, "Oh! Tharumar! They are the sinners of the highest order. Why did you relieve them? We have to push them back into the hell". The 101 brothers were trembling; Tharumar looked at the Hell-officers and said, "I have given 50% of my 'PuNNIam' (righteous deeds) to my brothers and let them be relieved permanently from their sins.
While I had been visiting the prisons one after other the whole day, I felt exactly what Tharumar had felt while visiting the hells. I never intended to visit the prisons ever again. Prison life is not as bad as what Tharumar had seen in the hells; but prison life is not at all easy one. The programs will give them sort of confined freedom for few hours in the predefined area. Depression is one of the worst enemies the prisoners would face.
"Tears wet my pillow", one of the prisoners confessed in the video. Just think of it. Even our eyes will also shed tears. I wish every one of them to return back into the society as very good person. Hare Krishna/Jehovah/Allah
