Who's on First: The Misdirection & Misunderstanding of Advocacy Programmatic & Policy Support

In today’s patient advocacy space, patient advocates attempt to do more with less. COVID-19 was a traumatic event for citizens around the globe, especially those suffering from chronic diseases. The pandemic also impacted the patient advocacy organizations and their ability to help the patients they look to serve, while also seeking funds to keep the lights on. Pharmaceutical Companies have long been strong supporters of patient advocacy organizations, seeking innovative ways to partner on programmatic and policy efforts to impact the patient. However, through high-stress environment & all involved parties looking to achieve their goals, we at The Advocate feel there are glaring gaps that must be addressed if we are going to continue to drive the patient voice forward. Many times, patients, advocates, Pharma/biotech companies & insurance payers end up speaking past each other, with high expectations. This program will discuss the evolution of programmatic and policy support trends, including access support, and dig into the bleak state of affairs in policy efforts at the state level or up on The Hill. This discussion seeks to drive thought on how we can all aid in supporting the patient.
