when you said industrial noise I wasn't sure what to expect real estate dog was fascinating, might need to listen more to tune my ear to hear it in a more musical sense but the rhythms and textures caught my attention - I have a huge appreciation for artists creating unconventional work 🙏🏻

Do you like Car Seat Headrest? Their early work was a little too “Lo-fi” for my liking, but when Teens of Denial came out in 2016 I think the band really came into their own commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. They’ve been compared to The Strokes but I think Toledo has a far more authentic approach to music. In 2016 they released Teens of Denial. I think their undisputed masterpiece has to be Destroyed by Hippie Powers, a song so catchy most people probably don’t listen to the lyrics, but they should, because it’s not just about the pleasures of friendship but it’s also a song about contemporary issues such as recreational drug culture.

I can’t tell whether this video is a joke, or intended to insult the band, or insult the kid playing the squier Stratocaster. I will say this though. I’m 43 years old, I think I’m a pretty decent guitarist and I think Car Seat Headrest is a brilliant band. They are so much deeper than “bedroom pop” or “bedroom rock”. Go back to Something Soon and hear the Brian Wilson / Beach Boys influence and the complex vocal harmonies. Listen to The Ballad of Costa Concordia and find one of the most epic and well composed rock songs of the last decades. Listen to the full Teens of Denial and Twin Fantasy albums from start to finish and find the hidden ties to full concept compositions that are so much broader than individual songs. Listen to the newest record and witness the maturity and growth in their production, recording and instrument selection. Will Toledo is brilliant and highly under rated. I hear everything from the beach boys, to led zeppelin, to Bruce Springsteen to the Cars... As for the kid playing the riff in the video, I was once at that stage in my playing and so was every guitarist. Good for him for having the balls to play whatever he knows in front of a stranger. Anyway, that’s my rant.

It’s just as ridiculous as thinking everything has to be theory. Primus can write songs all day. But o don’t feel them. It’s more about presentation. Like The Strokes or the pixies. Obviously it’s a joke but I did feel defensive for a sec 😂
