I remember the various taxicabs of New York City. The Plymouth Fury, Belvedere, Gran Fury, Satellite, Volaré. Dodge Polara, Aspen, Monaco, Royal Monaco, Diplomat. Ford Crown Victoria, Torino, Galaxie 500, LTD. Chevrolet Caprice Classic, Bel Air, Impala, Biscayne, Nova. Checker Marathon. All the cars had the massive front & rear bumper guards, water bumpers, and a plate over the lock to prevent picking, punching locks or breaking do to vandalism.

The problem with cabs is they are over priced and only stay in the city. I have a -100% chance of finding one in Staten Island and outside of downtown Brooklyn area y’all have a slim chance of finding one. I’m forced to use Lyft or Uber where I live.
My family was one, the drivers actually owned their job and worked hard for their number, been putting up with peoples bs since time. Made them iconic. The apps don’t even make them look professional.

Cycling was up 600% in NYC last year and bike infrastructure has been getting better. On top of that the Citibike program has expanded rapidly and people are just making less unnecessary trips. It's not just apps that's killing the taxi industry, there's a huge shift in mobility and values happening in the world right now.

What's the story in NYC? In my jurisdiction the law says all taxis must charge the same rate. No undercutting. Uber is moving into my neighbourhood as of June 1st 2022. I'm waiting to see how they are going to rate a ride without waiting time. $1.75 per kilometer is the law.

If you live in NYC and have short commute then Lift is your best option for affordability. Yellow taxis overcharge and get lost on purpose to make you pay extra. My second time taking Lyft I had a horrible experience with the driver refusing to drive me because “I didn’t put the destination address”, yet he claimed to Lyft that he took me to my destination. I have never experience a bad experience with Yellow Cabs. The drivers take their job more seriously.
The problem is insurance is extremely high and to purchase a medallion you have give up a lung, heart and liver. Not worth being a yellow cab driver and on top on that Taxis and Limousin Commission constantly harassing these drivers.

Pandemic pre or post nobody don’t want to catch a yellow cab because it’s a rip off. Lyft and Uber have fair prices. Catching a cab is those who are big spenders. So, GTFOH!!!!!
People don't use cabs anymore. They use Uber and lift.
Good get rid of all of them, private cabs, hailing, taxis are the reason why the roads are congested and road rules broken. They're just as much a menace on the roads as are bicyclists.
