Ackshually, Puyo was developed by a company named Compile until the early 2000s when the company went under. Sega previously picked up the rights from Compile in the latter's attempt to stay afloat. Compile wanted to buy the rights back eventually, but they went under before they had the chance. Sega has had the rights ever since.
I could never get my brain around Puyo Puyo. Plus the garbage that drops in on you during a match is annoying to deal with. Panel de Pon's garbage blocks are much more manageable, though matches can drag if both sides are good at clearing them out and comboing from them. Hmmm. Makes me want to do some kind of playthrough of a Panel de Pon game sometime.
The newer Puyo Puyo games have a system in place where if two people have roughly the same combo done, the garbage beans will be canceled. This allows the match to flow better without hiccups and is more balanced. As much as I like Mean Bean and the original Puyo Puyo, If someone gets a 5x or higher combo, you have no chance of turning it around.
this game just keeps my ass too hard for me to enjoy it but it's a perfectly fine puzzler and having it based on the Sonic show is charming, wouldn't call it a terrible game
I suppose these games are up to taste. I love this game, but I *HATE* Tetris. So I'm kinda at odds on what to think about Puyo Puyo Tetris for the Switch... XD This particular game is built using the original Puyo Puyo's assets, right down to the enemy AI patterns. Even the little cat thing is just the same Carbuncle, more or less the series mascot (with a much dumber name that I refuse to call him by).
Most of the music in this is actually from Puyo Puyo, but given different instruments and played in some different places from where they are in the original
To be a party-pooping pile of shit for a minute, it's not really a clone of Puyo puyo when it's the same developers who made the franchise working on it. I think it was more of a consious decision by Compile to attach Sonic into this & got the permission to do so, suggested of course by the fact that (like you guys said) they pulled the stunt again with Kirby on the SNES. Also, you can't be a has-been if you never were a somebody on your career. As for my personal feelings towards this, I really did enjoy this game. True, the single player can go fuck a donkey's dick, but if you're coming into this for single player action, you might as well wash it off with some Call of duty while you're at it. It's clearly not the kind of game for that & while I normally would cry complete bullshit about that kind of design, this game is in alot of compilations & dirt cheap to boot, so you're paying fair price for a multiplayer only puzzle experience. The real strong-point of this game & Puyo puyo in general comes from multiplayer. As soon as you get your buddy along, this game skyrockets from a frustrating kind of meh experience to a bombastic great time. It's no Turtles in time, Chip & Dale or Smash bros, but for puzzle fanatics, there's a place for this alongside bust a move or Tetris attack. Speaking of Tetris attack, I don't know why this game is so compared to that one? I guess the 2 were pretty much the 2 talked about competitive puzzle games (Again, I guess. I didn't live in those days). To throw my own hat in this ring, I prefer this game. Tetris attacks was a bit odd for me to really figure out. Everything just kinda happens as the stage continues to elevate, my range of influence on the board is so small that I can't focus on it all & playing it with my sister, I got fucking schooled. I can better organize & excecute my actions in this game. I feel like it's more flowing in my pace instead of the game pushing me forward. I know what I'm doing at 1 spesific moment & I have foresight to what my next choice of action on the next moment is going to be. Comboing is actually managable here because of it.
"Also, you can't be a has-been if you never were a somebody on your career." We can be a has-bean, however! I think it's fair to label a game as a "clone", whether it has the same developer or not. It's still Puyo Puyo quite obviously, just with a different coat of paint. Just as fair as it is to call Kirby Fighters a clone of Super Smash Bros., as both shared a developer (HAL). The changes are more drastic with that example, of course, but I think it stands well enough. As for the game being more fun in multiplayer...I'd have to get FTA very very drunk for him to entertain that notion. That said if you enjoy the game that much that's awesome! I like it when people can enjoy a game I don't and back themselves up very well. I really enjoy Unleashed (HD) and that game gets attacked a lot, so I can sort of understand.
MykonosFan I guess you have a point about the clone thing. Same developer or not, it pretty much is a re-skin. I can also understand why people would have animostiy towards this game. There is some backbone to the whole "Why not just play Dr. Mario or Tetris?" argument, because this is very simular to those & if you happen to prefer either over this, there's little to hold you over aside from the more aggressively competitive multiplayer, which could be found in Tetris attack anyway. Besides, puzzle games being multiplayer games might not even sound too appealing to some people & for those that are looking for single player, this game'll be the first to tell you to fuck off. You're absolutely in the right for calling this 1-player mode awful as far as I'm conserned for just how inbalanced the difficulty is. Even I can't justify how cruel this is & there's absolutely no point to even trying, because the only driving force you'll ever get to keep playing is seeing all the goofy faces that the robots make. Totally not worth the 15 Genesis controllers your gonna break in frustration.
MykonosFan Nah just a bit impulsive. I on't lie I've had those moments where I saw a physical copy of a game and was like. Mine!! Not caring to much about the price.
Yeah that's pretty much what it was haha. It was all in good shape so I figured I'd be paying that much on eBay. Plus it's just much more find to find things in person. But it's Mean Bean Machine so I'm still an idiot.
MykonosFan You could of bought worse games. I bought sonic 06 for 4.99. Far to much for that game. Still wanted to play it to see how bad it was. It did not disappoint in failure. Sonic and the secret rings for 2.99 I feel even more ripped off by that. Though I do enjoy the cut scenes and art. I bought myself a pokemon trading card game for gameboy for gameboy. I do not regret that buy but I admit I coulda been better. Least Mean bean machine is fun and enjoyable. Even if there are millions of poyo poyo pop clones out there. It means it can be enjoyed.
1st of all them blocks that come down is obstacles and them colors is are 5 human senses.Use your senses to destroy obstacles.Too many obstacles becomes a burden.Truthfully if more and most people do God's will their will be no more suffering or bad obstacles, all obstacles ain't bad.
I'm sorry... did you just call this game shitty?Actually, now that I think about it, it's hard to get used to this game's mechanics, now that later Puyo games added offsetting, all clears, and other mechanics none of you will understand, most likely...
Dogfacedog Thankfully we've already one Boom by means of the charity stream, which will be going up at some point. and thankfully, we can't do Rivals since we can't record from the PSP's we don't have. We're safe!!
The game's not terrible, it's a fun puzzle game.
Puyo Puyo's always the best, man.
Hard gameplay
I love this game. My friend and I would endlessly play against each other when we were kids.
"As if Dr. R hasn't had enough stick already."
That's what SHE said! WHOOOO!

Grounder be like, 'guess where THIS is going'
I died at "Grounder is so high right now."
Grounder's face when he is about to win practically screams "high impact sexual violence".

Oh man my favorite character, nameless background robot from the first episode AOSTH
You guys are hilarious. Lol
Well, I liked it.
I will admit that FTA has a sexy voice. The way he enunciates his words with that accent just sings.
So about that Sonic Movie...

I think this game is OK. it's a puzzle game and it gets harder as you defeat bosses.
I don't see how this game is bad.
There was a SatAM game planned but it was cancelled.
I remember that. Too bad sega didn't like the idea of the game.
Bare Knuckles: Featuring Knuckles the Echinda & Knuckles
this game just keeps my ass too hard for me to enjoy it but it's a perfectly fine puzzler and having it based on the Sonic show is charming, wouldn't call it a terrible game

Mean Bean Machine sounds like the name for a mexican wrestler.
Starring McLovin the Hedgehog
Um, Milton Knight is still alive.
Milton Knight isn't dead
Im Facebook friends with him so I would know
I first heard of this through the Mega Collection for GC. I found it fun. Then again, never heard of Puyo Puyo Pop until Superstar Tennis.
It's not a bad game, it's just that there are a lot of clones of this game with the exact same gameplay.
William Brown
Like tetris and collapse and many many basic games. They are all fun but they were so fun they got cloned to let everyone try it.
To be a party-pooping pile of shit for a minute, it's not really a clone of Puyo puyo when it's the same developers who made the franchise working on it. For the SEGA 3DO Jaguar
I'm happy I own a physical copy of this game for the gamegear. But ten bucks? No not worth that. Reminds me I should get batteries for my gamegear.
I'm an idiot.

have they done super Robotnik land yet? or did I miss that.
It tends to happen on streams a ton but we haven't done it for the channel yet
MykonosFan I have seen that a few times. thanks for that.

Hilarious commentary, cringe-worthy lack of knowledge, which is extremely common.
+Find The Computer Room I will enjoy my stay.
-my friend and I were in fucking tears at the Dynamight part, oh my god-
I'm sorry... did you just call this game shitty?Actually, now that I think about it, it's hard to get used to this game's mechanics, now that later Puyo games added offsetting, all clears, and other mechanics none of you will understand, most likely...
Happy New Year. You all asked for this. This is all your fault
It could be worse.
...
I'm struggling for examples here, but I'm sure it could somehow be worse.
***** That is true.
Well, it could be rivals or boom
Dogfacedog Thankfully we've already one Boom by means of the charity stream, which will be going up at some point. and thankfully, we can't do Rivals since we can't record from the PSP's we don't have.
We're safe!!
MykonosFan I'm sending a PSP-3000 with video cables your way as we speak
This game was good enough it got back into Mania and had a crossover with Tetris. OP has terrible taste confirmed.
Kirby Avalanche is so much better.
Accept no Substitutions Kirby is an asshole in that game.
