@@loveistheanswer8137 Come off it now. Neil has always just stood up for what he believes in, which has changed over the years INEVITABLY! Nothing's changed, he's his own guy and I have top respect for him for that.
I've been playing this song with various bands for the last 45 yrs. I play it almost exactly the same way that you do, with a few more embellishments, such as muted percussions, but I also drop the top E to D. So, D,A,D,G,B,D -- otherwise known as double drop D tuning. Guess it works either way. Great song and great lesson. And while we are in this double drop D tuning, I transition into to "The Loner," another great song. Thanks.
Classic tune I've always wanted to learn. Saw the great Los Lobos a few years back in a 300 seat club, I was 5 feet from the stage and they covered this song. I actually learned the bulk of it from them, best teachers I've ever had. Saw this lesson and am now able to nail some of the nuances I missed before. Thanks Marty!
Actually Neil tunes to double drop d for this song which is both e strings to d and playing the chords in the intro as bared across the three high string to play to the record
It’s 9 am an time to start rocking out. This song is such a blast Marty. It’s too much fun. It’s very motivational! My hats off to you for a hell of an amazing guitar lesson! This really helped to get me out of my playing funk!
Niel says play in the modal and you'll find them, I've been playing 25 years but don't know what modal is I just do my own thing could someone explain lol
Marty your tutorials are always so amazing, I actually feel like I'm learning the songs and not just some numbers on lines I would absolutely love it if you did anything by the band Dirty Honey
you can also play the G in the verses as 555000 and if you double drop D (which sounds even better imho) the hammered D in the intro sounds perfect at 000777 -love you man!
Been playing this a lot this last few weeks. I have been adding the sus2 or 9 on the C by playing the D note second string third fret and also adding the same note to the G chord. Another stranger thing I have been doing is to end the lick in the intro with the F chord at 333000 and letting it ring. Really spicy as Paul David’s might say!
I tried this lesson a while ago, but wasn't ready. I've practiced my open chords a while and I'm using some minors and starting to learn about 7ths. This time seeing the lesson, I'm like yes yes, now it's opening doors for me
Neil is a Canadian, American Music and Rock and Roll hall of Fame treasure, More artists should have his courage to say F-you to the man....Neil is the Goat.
I like to play this song at open mics, but I've always played it by ear. Your version sounds much closer to the way Neil Young plays it, so I'm gonna pay attention to yout tutorial, but, I'm still gonna play my version on an SG, instead of an ES 335. (But I understand he played it on a Les Paul Gold Top)
Excellent as usual. I restarted playing after a 15 year break, didn't get too far the first time. These are perfect for improving beginners. May I ask what settings you're using on the Boss? I bought the same amp, but the possibilities are a bit overwhelming.
Great video Marty. I saw a patreon request Harvest Moon. As a fellow tribesman, I am also requesting Harvest Moon. I believe that track had the backup singers of Nicolette Larsen and Linda on it. It's pretty easy, but we would love your take on it. Love that ending, so easy, yet so cool. Impress your friends!
Thanks Marty. I recently started playing after many years with the guitar in the closet, and you are helping a lot. Can you tell me what pedals you are using for effects?
Hey i know its a bit different from what you usually do lessons on, but could you do one on twist from korn? The riff sounds insane and there are no tutorials for it anywhere.
Marty you missed one little detail. At the very end, through the distortion you can hear faintly but audibly a D major triad played high up the neck (D note on 15th fret). Cinnamon Girl isn't complete without that little flourish!
the right side speaker 😂plays a Sus2 D (open E string)arpeggio for effect. Gotta be played with a buddy ...(Neil and Danny Whitten jammin is what that great art was all about) But still a nice hybrid run down of Neil's song here 😎 👍
OOH ! I love Neil young, this is very cool Marty, btw what is the name of your guitar, I see it’s a Gibson hollow body, but does it have a specific name or something?
Pretty guitar.. I'm waiting on the Sire H7's to come back in stock. Always loved that song. Thanks Marty.. I'm finally trying to play at least once a day after 30 years of piddling around.
Wish I had Marty Music waaaaay back when I was 15. Life would've been different.
Got that right!
What a classic! Neil Young created some of the most iconic songs. Thanks for the Lesson!!!!!!
Neil has made himself obsolete by demanding Joe Rogan be removed from Spotify. This from a man who made his career being anti establishment.
@@loveistheanswer8137Taking a stance against dangerous disinformation makes you a chad, not obsolete.
@@loveistheanswer8137 oh stop. I don’t necessarily agree with him on that but let it rest. Neil will always be the man

I've spent hours practicing this song starting to really get the hang of it...🤙
Just about to that on this beautiful day outside. Going to entertain the neighbours! Lol❤🎸

Yeah, Neil plays it double drop D
I learned it in double drop D, too (mid-70s)!
Yessir, double drop d is the way Neil plays it.
Thanks Marty!!

Hey Marty, thank you! Neil actually recorded this with the high E tuned to D also.
Love this sound! You're the master of sound and guitar lessons, Marty!
Actually Neil tunes to double drop d for this song which is both e strings to d and playing the chords in the intro as bared across the three high string to play to the record
Drop the high e down to a d also for added effect it slightly alters the chords
There is a great video of a guy asking Neil how to play cinnamon girl in a park in “72, he drops the high e also!! Good catch!
One of the best riffs I've ever heard and I'd never even heard of the song until today. 😎🎸🎸
Check out rust never sleeps
Whippersnapper
Seriously? OMG, sorry but that's sad to me. One of the best songs from 1968. Everybody Knows This is Nowhere. Please buy it, you'll be happy.
I love your guitar!

Great lesson, thanks! Some circles recommend a double drop D style with both the high and low E strings dropped. Thoughts?
Great song choice! Thanks for the inspiration! That 335 is gorgeous! I remember when it was built!
This is an awesome lesson Marty!!!
Thank you for making this amazing guitar tutorial and helping me get better at guitar you are such a good teacher
Marty, great selection of songs that you have been doing.

Marty Marty Marty! You need to show us how how to play the REAL solo to this song!!!
Thanks Marty. I recently started playing after many years with the guitar in the closet, and you are helping a lot. Can you tell me what pedals you are using for effects?
Great song and lesson! Have given it a quick go but a bit late in the evening to be annoying the neighbours 🤣
I have the same problem. They complained last week because I shut the fridge too loud!
Marty I'm a huge fan! By chance can you help me with the bridge? I'm having a little trouble on it.
Hey i know its a bit different from what you usually do lessons on, but could you do one on twist from korn? The riff sounds insane and there are no tutorials for it anywhere.
Can you make a video of the solo for la Grange. Because I can’t watch anyone else except you.
Marty you missed one little detail. At the very end, through the distortion you can hear faintly but audibly a D major triad played high up the neck (D note on 15th fret). Cinnamon Girl isn't complete without that little flourish!

Thank you so much Marty
Wow, what a tone this 335
Marty, I always thought it was 'double-dropped D'. ;) Sounds better to me 'Double Drop D'. Great video lesson as usual man.
i think you should both E strings (low and high) tune to D. Its double drop D
It’s double drop D
Love this song
Sooo good. Your inspirational. Thxxx.🤘😝

Thinking of trying this on my Tele..( or LP..? ).. with a little short delay and Big Muff for the fuzz…???
OOH ! I love Neil young, this is very cool Marty, btw what is the name of your guitar, I see it’s a Gibson hollow body, but does it have a specific name or something?
ES335
Marty, can you please do some Waylon Jennings tutorials?
1st thing you got wrong was the tuning. It's a "full drop D," meaning both E strings are tuned down to D. Try playing it with thr correct tuning.
Please do "Souls Like the Wheels by the Avett Brothers" it would make my dad proud.
Class man
Please do alien blues by vundabar. There's so many guitar parts for that song I wanna learn but can't quite get there.
Pretty guitar.. I'm waiting on the Sire H7's to come back in stock. Always loved that song. Thanks Marty.. I'm finally trying to play at least once a day after 30 years of piddling around.
Marty sounds lovely but would you mind doing a lesson on love grows where my rosemary go’s
i wish someone would do the type o negative version
What effects did you use on your guitar pl.
Neil Is the best of all
I don’t ever ask for requests but can you teach “the gift by seether”on acoustic really want to learn it for my girlfriend she loves the song
