Fats Domino playing piano at home

- Two & a half minutes from April 2010 - I was shooting for Joe Lauro's documentary: "The Big Beat: Fats Domino & the Birth of Rock 'n' Roll." I heard Fats' dear friend Haydee Ellis say "come in the bedroom, Fats is playing..." It happened so fast. I had to grab the camera and go. We were shooting in his living room where he had a new grand piano but he didn't want to play that; he'd rather play this little one in his bedroom. A rare moment - he had stopped playing in public some years before.
82 years old and playing that piano like he's 32. Awesome. They will never be another Fats.

wrotenwasp this was shorted in 2010 tho, he was much younger
There was Fats Waller before, there are singers like him today. We just don't hear them so much anymore. He in particular was one of the honest ones; his sort of personality doesn't fit with the music industry's short-term profit and strict idea of what 'sells' today.
@@cantdothis6899 He was born in February of 1928, so he actually was 82 when this was filmed.
There is no such thing
amazing the minute he starts singing it sounds just like the record he cut what 1956
S p ....my exact sentiments.What a guy.
fats war ja auch noch ein " richtiger musiker " ! greeting from good old germany !🇩🇪
He cut "Fat Man" in 1949.
@trentoncarpenter5297 That's not the song he started singing, though.. He went into "I'm In Love Again" after he played a little bit of "The Fat Man."
This is amazing footage. He never lost the magic.
still seemed to love playing too which is great to see
wow....wish he'd made a solo piano record back in the day - he was one of the last, original new orleans piano masters.
Ditto, Doc...wish he had, too
Such a down to earth guy for someone who changed music.
Yes, great persona - good karma and it came through in his music. Reminds me of Louis Armstrong. Warm and graceful.
When he starts playing Blueberry Hill again and hums the intro then smiles is my favorite part.
Fats Domino is the original “Founding Father” of Rock and Roll. His first song was released in 1949, “The Fat Man” and became a million selling record. Fats really started the Rock and Roll movement. Even Elvis Presley said Fats is the real King of Rock and Roll.
Even Elvis said fats was the king of rock and roll. Couldn’t agree more, my grandad had all of fats records.
FATS WAS A WONDERFUL PIANIST. SUCH A MULTI-TALENTED GENTLEMAN. GOD REST YOUR SOUL, KIND SIR!!!!
He has such a good heart, i hear him play and get good vibes... even hearing his voice
👍🎹🎹🎹🎙🎶🎵🎶👋
What a legend!
Wow
cried when i heard he had passed on
hes in a better place now
Amen
I always loved Fats, his playing and singing. RIP, Big Guy, you are missed.
he should have been labeled, true legend of rock and jazz
combo of sax flute and his beautiful touch with piano is what music truly was
Fats I miss you so much , I cried to take a pic with you I was only 5 in 1975 but I knew all the music from 1949 including your first album .... I never got to meet you later in life ..I miss you and your music . But I can honestly say this little Hispanic can sound exactly like you .
Brilliant Fats Domino, He seemed so humble for a very talented rock n roll star, R.I.P.
He sounds just like the record!Such a talented guy!Love his music!
The man at his piano ! A true legend !
Jerry Lee Lewis was a significant presence but it was Fats who was responsible for Louisiana music taking it's rightful place in rock 'n' roll history.
That second rendition of Blueberry Hill just hits different. At 1:40 it almost seems he's lost in the music, then looks up and remembers he's got an audience, and breaks into the classic Fats smile.
The great 'Fats' Domino ... Now there was a real legend. One of the true pioneers of r'n'b and rock'n'roll ... R.I.P.
👍🎹🎹🎹🎵🎶🎵👋
This brings a tear to my eye, but also a moment of laughter too, when he stopped playing 'Blueberry Hill' to ask for money? Priceless. There will never be another R&B piano player as charismatic as him.
I agree, he made us all smile!
This video makes me want to cry. Why can't we appreciate music like this in 2021? This man is one of the best!
The one and only wonderful Mr Fats Domino. RIP Big Man
👋🎹🎹🎶🎵🎶👍

Priceless
My parents used to put me on a table when I was 2 years old and let me dance to Fats! I still have that awesome rhythm instilled in my DNA. I think all small children should be exposed to good old rhythm & blues. It has been my solice in many happy & sad times! Thankyou Fats for being all that....cool.
A good man and a great musician. And a trailblazer besides. I still listen to his music to this day, including the early Imperial recordings. He's timeless. Thank you for sharing this with us!
the coolest piano player ever.

He still sings perfectly.
He’s soul is so bright. I love him!
kids wont get this or their grandkids but it was the shit. A icon, a great example of a true entertainer
With all the greats their music is totally individual ; as with Fats..there is only one. Wonderful performer I have enjoyed since 1957.
That's beautiful I've got a picture with him in Reno in 1975 I cried to take a picture with him because he was a hero to me is music help me escape the bad things that were happening when I was growing up when I met him he said I was too young to know fat man from 1954 and I proved it by singing he played the piano and I sang the songs just the intro of the songs and he could not believe that I was that young and knew all those songs he was definitely one of the best and will definitely be missed greatly
👋🎹🎹🎹🎶🎵🎶👍👋👋
