I feel so much the same: the quiet when I stare at the camera makes the consonance of my words into noise that crowds my thinking. Then I hear myself, every sentence as if being spoken back to me, and I judge. I had not realized before how so much relief comes from the eyes and expressions of another person, how their reciprocity brings comfort, and so when I'm just alone in a room talking to a camera I feel oddly lonesome and self-critical.-This has been a fascinating challenge! I'm not sure if this resonates with you, but it makes me value others more; as much as I feel introverted, that introversion seems a craving of singular connection and avoidance of noise. Sitting alone in a room feels like noise.
that’s a really beautiful realisation to have. there’s so much we gain in reciprocal connection!! i definitely feel you on the self-judging. i’ve deleted so many attempts at filming. but we’re not here to speak perfectly, just to share our thoughts, and the people who want to hear them will find us 🤍
the way i RAN to this upload. it is truly the year of learning and yearning. loved these picks of poetry and philosophy. and both you and Cass have talked so highly of Art Monsters. and i need to get to it (now that it's in pb)!!!
Loved this mix of reads you’ve enjoyed (so pleased they’ve got you out the slump) and books that you’ve got and are excited about. I always enjoy your content whether fast and furious or not. Hahaha.
oh, this is so good to hear because i’ve yet to read any iris but really want to and don’t know where to start!! i read my first woolf recently (absolute shame i had not read her sooner). she has such a gorgeous rhythm with her words 🤍
Wow! Thank you for the great recommendations. I adore Hilma Af Klint’s art as well. The most recent book that I would recommend is actually a photography book: Sasuke by Masahisa Fukase. It’s like a love letter to his cats. He played with the page a lot in terms of how the photos are arranged and sized. A book I’m looking forward to reading soon is Boulder by Eva Baltasar
i feel the same way re: anxiety when filming!! for what it’s worth i didn’t think your pace was too quick here!! they can’t kill us until they kill us was one of my favorite books of last year - i didn’t listen to the audiobook but it sounds like it would be a stunning experience. was going to recommend you check out art monsters after listening to you talk about the other side haha. i think you’ll love it! that paperback edition is so good too
thank you, i appreciate that! my mouth just zooms trying to keep up with my mind 🙃 ahh i think that maybe if he has any of his other books on audio it would be worth a shot! 🤍
I, too, am trying to read more educational nonfiction &poetry, the way I do it is by adding one of each in every monthly tbr. My problem with poetry is that I can’t remember the thing I read a while after reading, which makes me feel like I am not reading good enough or that there’s something wrong I am doing 🙉
i admire people with monthly tbrs!! i could never work that way-too much of a mood reader. organising your reading for the month must feel so good!! i think with poetry underlining and note writing can be really helpful for uncovering a deeper understanding. or just noting down some lines or images you like from a poem in a notebook, i do that often 🥰💞
@@jameskatie hehehe, if I didn’t make a monthly tbr university will make me to forget about reading like it doesn’t exist. Having a list help me stick with my habit!! Thanks for the advice! I will be trying it next month😁
Would love to see book recommendations on specific themes and weekly reading vlogs if that’s something you would want to do!! I’m currently reading The Enchanted April and it’s perfect for this season
the enchanted april! i think this is a sign for me to dive into this book, i’ve been thinking about it for the past few weeks. it sounds gorgeous! i do love some themed recommendations 🙏🏻 x
I just found your account and I just love what you share. So many books I don‘t see shared from everyone else which I find very inspiring. Added a few to my list. And I didn‘t think you talked too fast, it was perfect in my opinion. It was interesting to hear, that you rarely ever buy hardcovers. I am someone who lends most books from the library and I only buy a few books (the ones I really want to have on my bookshelf) and then I usually get the hardcover. But I get your point, that it is a lot easier with paperbacks when you want to carry it around. One book I recently finished and really loved is The Details by Ia Genberg. Such a beautiful book about the different relationships that form our life. What stays with us, even though we part ways. I underlined quite a few parts.
Thank you for this video. I’m interested in every book you mentioned especially the poetry and the first book. I’m reading af Klint bio by Julia Voss atm
Love hearing you ramble, and was so glad to see a new video from you! All the books mentioned sound great, but The Book of All Loves sounds especially wonderful. I recently read The Hearing Test and loved it. I feel like it would be right up your street!
i love the way you talk about books and i feel you on how odd it is to speak to a camera, how unnatural. but when i try to make it like i’m simply thinking aloud or talking to an imagined audience ready to understand then it’s easier i love your pace, all your videos feel intentional
the sweetest words! thank you 🤍🕊️ i think you have the natural discussion of your thoughts down so well! feels like a friend is sharing the tangents their mind went on when they were reading some (really good) books! x
What a wonderful book selection!! I ordered a book How to think like a Woman in the middle of the video. I thought if I didn’t do it on the spot I may forget. How much I didn’t want to miss on this book🙌
Hey your pace was totally fine! I read Couplets by Maggie Millner last night and bawled through it. In the past I have really loved when you included footage of you around the city and seeing live music etc. it helps that Glasgow is one of my favourite places on earth. I tried very hard to move there but it is probably not on the cards now. But I will be visiting later this year so if you have recommendations of fave indie bookstores let me know! I was less addicted to reading last time I visited :)
ahh some glasgow love!!! caledonia books on great western road is great for secondhand books. good press, burning house books, and category is books are all lovely indie bookstores 🤍 thank you, i’m definitely trying to get back into the habit of catching glimpses of life ✨🕊️
Nice to see you, Katie! I’m eagerly waiting for the Danielle Dutton from the library. I’d really like to get to the Women Philosophers book! I don’t do monthly wrap up videos. I didn’t want to keep all those details in my head! A book I’m reading now that is so far bueatifully written is Knife by Salman Rushdie.
nice to hear from you! 🤍 how great does the dutton sound?! that’s definitely another reason that i’m not a fan of monthly wrap ups haha too many things to remember already! x
Im so glad you posted! Ok, I tried with the audiobook for Little Devil in America and couldn't get on with it, so I'm curious to try with They Cant Kill Us after hearing you liked it. And I keep starting and stopping how to think like a woman, this was a lovely reminder to start again. Also suppppper curious about that Augustin Fernandez Mallo book! Fitz truly has no misses! 🎯
oh, interesting!! i hope you get on better with the audio for they can’t kill us until they kill us 🙏🏻 are you enjoying how to think like a woman? i picked it up without knowing much about it but loving the idea! 💞

I get anxious when i film, too, even though it is just for my friends. It is ok! I think it will go with time. I liked the way you talked, wasn’t fast! Everything was understood :) Also, nice book recommendation! So unique and beautiful.
I really loved this video. I’ve been wanting to try and join booktube and your honesty and simple editing is inspiring me to start. Would you mind sharing what you use to film and any editing software? Thank you xx

Love just listening to u abt books honestly. U are doing great! And the one book I always always recommend is white teeth by zadie smith. I would love to hear yr thoughts abt it when you've read it.
