I think the sonic generations logo goes a bit unappreciated in terms of its certain design choices. Being a celebratory game it uses the main colors blue and yellow to evoke the similar look of the original logo. And the little pop out stars and shapes hold a lot of similarity to the that of the Japanese box art from sonic 1, 2, and 3. And the fact that they have that metallic-gold look with the logo already shows how sega was trying to create a game that truly honored sonic's history while also innovating in new ways.
That Foces logo is very nice. I just wish we got more of that dictator propaganda imagery in the game. It feels like this logo is made of the broken promises of a better game.
One detail I personally love is how the logo for Sonic Unleashed, the game all about traveling Earth, has a bright parabola on the bottom part of "SONIC", while in the logo for Sonic Colors, the game set in outer space, there's a similar parabola in the _top_ part of "SONIC". Almost makes the two games feel complementary to each other.
The way i see it they represent planets. Sonic unleashed has the parabola on the lower part because you are on earth, while colours has it on the upper aprt because you are in outer space. Awesome stuff!
As someone who's crazy about the visual design of Sonic logos, its like this video was MADE for me LOL always loved the design of the logos, how they fit the game itself and its themes, and how each logo maintains a consistent sonic-y design Great stuff! also if you ever need good PNGs of the logos, i have an entire folder of them haha

As a Graphic Design Student, here are my thoughts on each Logo: 1) The classic Sonic logo. It alright. I like how the counters in the word Sonic are at a diagonal slant, It gives the logo a bit of character and a sense of forward direction. I like the color combinations as well, the colors of red, yellow, and blue pair nicely together. The blue and red being Sonic's colors and the yellow being rings, makes the color choice feel meaningful. I just wish they did something more interesting with the text "the Hedgehog". 7/10 2) Sonic CD logo. I have the same compliments about before regarding the word Sonic. This time they simplified it a bit and I think that was for the better. The CD is nice in the fact that it's in the same fount and style as the world Sonic, but I question the choice of the color green. It's not bad, I'm just not sure why green. When it comes to logos everything including color needs to have a purpose. 6/10 3) Sonic 3 and Knuckles logo. It has all the positive of the first one. The inverting of the usual color scheme where this time the blue is on the outside is a nice touch. It makes it look new while still having that familiarity to it. The placement of the text is also really good, it doesn't feel too crowded or too distant from each other. My only issue is that the and Knuckles part looks tacted on, but I understand why they did that. 7/10 4) SA1 logo. I like this one a lot. My main issues is that all the textures on it make it look a bit too busy, witch hurts it's scale ability. Scale ability is very important when it comes to logos. The sky blue with the brownish color pair well together and really makes you think of outdoors and by proxy Adventure. 8/10 5) SA2 logo. I'm bias when it comes to this one. I just like it so much. The duel sides to it, the hint of space in the text, the jaggedness of it, it's all just so cool looking. 100/10 6) Sonic Heroes logo. The three circles behind the text are a nice addition to the logo and act as a foreshadowing to the game play style. The texture in the text is a nice simplify version of the sky, and also mach the visual style of the game. 7/10 7) Shadow The Hedgehog logo. I am also bias twords this one. The swirl thingy makes for a really nice logo for the character Shadow. It's cool looking and distinctive. The fount they choose is a nice departure from the one they use for Sonic, and I feel like it matches Shadow's personally really well. 20/10 8) Sonic 06 logo. I don't like this one. The italic geometric fount they used for the words "the Hedgehog" make it look like Sonic is some military agent. The color scheme while being nice, only add to the military feel. Sonic shouldn't have a military feel in my opinion because Sonic isn't a military kind of person, nor dose he work for the military in that game. 3/10 9) Sonic and the Secret Rings logo. I like it. It really has that story book feel to it. The fount they used for the text "and the Secret Rings" has an ancent feel to it, while almost looking handwritten. The color combination of Gold and Silver gives a feeling of treasure to it. The fire on the O of Sonic is also a nice touch, both foreshadowing events in the game, but also adding a bit of visual interest to the logo. 8/10 10) Unleashed logo. Solid design. The colors are nice, and the slash through the logo nods to the warehog. 8/10 11) Black Knights logo. Extra solid. The medieval look to it and the sword, all convey what kind of game this is. And the colors only add to it. 8/10 12) Colors logo. It ok. Kind of generic, but fits the game well enough. I like how the Europe version is slightly different. 6/10 13) Generations logo. Pretty basic. The graphics behind the words are nice. The text is meh. 5/10 14) Lost world logo. As much as I despise this game, I have to admit the logo is really good. The effect they put into the text adds a lot of character to the design. Sold 8/10 15) boom logo. It kinda annoys me, but it's not that bad. 6/10 16) Mania logo. It nice. The style to it gives a sense of fun to it. 7/10 17) Forces logo. It cool. Reminds me of some of those old military ads. 8/10 18) Sonic movie logos. I believe that the generations and mania logos had so many geometric shapes in order to look like the Japanese box art for the classic games. I actually like them. Great video btw
The heroes logo represent the character types elements... Speed = Wind (which at the time sonic had wind powers and speed characters had wind based attacks) Power = Fire (all the power characters had firery attacks) Flying = lightning (All flying type characters shock enemies)
Why didn’t you rank the actual Sonic CD logo from the OG release of the game? The 2011 version is literally just the words “SONIC CD”; I’d hardly consider it a replacement. In fact I wish you looked at the regional differences for all of the classics. I’m quite fond of the more understated style they went with in Japan.
Sonic adventure logo has an story within logo itself, you people are jist crazy if you looking only in that texture strokes. I kind of wish frontiers would have this representation of place in logo, so you could see that game is about amazing places to be seen and not that virtual reality portal instead

I clicked off on the first one. I’m sorry, but if the Sonic Adventure logo is in last place then I’m not sticking around. I really like the design of it and in my opinion it’s the most unique as it gives you that adventure-esque feel when opening up the game with the dirt like border and the tropical and stormy textures on the words.
Frontiers is honestly my least favorite logo so far, just barely any color or pizazz. And I feel like a lot of others are judged too harshly like the Generations, Lost World, or Boom logos, and it's a shame that stuff like Sonic R, Sonic The Fighters, and Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing are left out cuz those have some neat logos too.
Also I really don't like the critiques on certain logos I feel like how you described doesn't make sense lol. Maybe I just disagree with your critiques but ysah
