Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite, Blades of Glory) joins us this week and talks about the feeling of ‘constantly being an outsider’ coming to Hollywood from a humble upbringing in the PNW and then heading back to Washington after years in the film industry. Jon shares some crazy stories from his family history that helped shape him into the anxiety and stress free man that he is today. We also get into (of course) our shared bond of horror, why Napoleon Dynamite never had a sequel, and Jon’s memorable run-ins with Will Ferrell, James Cameron, and Ali G.

I worked with him on set for a commercial and he was honestly so freakin cool. You’re always told don’t talk to the talent unless your job is directly working with them like Director, DP, makeup etc. but he started up a conversation with me and was just cool. Super genuine and a great guy.

If you have a mass influx of cash, you should absolutely take the opportunity to hire a personal investor and grow your wealth by 5-10% a year, which gives you a few million dollars a year to spend without even putting a dent in your winnings. If he’s not taking advantage of his wealth, then he’s just a miser who wants to take his money to the grave.

It really seems no one in the comments below are actually familiar with Jon Heder. Honestly, he wasn’t “rambling” in this interview so much as it appears he was trying to give a decent answer without having to just blurt out the truth…that he’s a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and because everyone seems to hate “Mormons”, especially Hollywood, the real reason he stepped back is because he won’t compromise his values for a paycheck, and in this industry, that’s highly frowned upon.

I think people don’t realize it’s ok to wanna live somewhere completely different from where you work. Some people like their personal lives separate from the professional. I’m glad he’s doing what’s best for him.
