I remember this live, the band painfully backlit to the point we felt simultaneously illuminated and blinded. You had to have faith it was really them performing. There was nowhere for all that talent to hide in that thick, punishing wall of sound. I remember the bass guitar rumbling my lungs with brutal force, daring me to take my next breath. Inspired, grateful for the spectacle, and with ears ringing, we somehow made it out alive.
I was always a weird teenager liking music that my elder brother liked but as I have aged I have not lost the tinniest of love for Matt Johnson and his approach to composition and a fuck U altitude!
I've been watching you for ages You're like a boat without a mast Struggling with the tide of destiny Between the future and the past I am the lighthouse I am the sea I am the air that you breathe Gravitate to me Through the ether And the mists of the mind You will come to me To lay by my side To stroke my hair To cuddle my flesh And to quell the torrents In my subterranean depths This world ain't strong enough To keep us from each other For we are kindred spirits Born to become Earthly lovers I am the lighthouse I am the sea I am your destiny Gravitate to me There is something within your voice Something behind your eyes Something inside your heart That is beating in time with mine I know you From a previous incarnation I know you From a previous incarnation I know you! From a previous incarnation Gravitate to me, gravitate to me Gravitate to me, gravitate to me
Great song by a seriously unreckonised genius musical being matt Johnson timelessly appealing this album is so crisp and universally clean musically and lyrically a absolutely honed work a masterpiece
Everything adds up, the picture, the music and the lyrics. Rare compatibility in the contemporary art... (contemporary... 33 years ago... not so rare actually) Like very much your "Mind Bomb" all the time. Good job.
I remember another version being played on MTV on Friday nights in the Erotica section or something, Featured boobs I think. Or perhaps it was Kingdom of Rain, dunno, so many years have passed
The EYES HAVE IT... Total Recall. I remember her... The very last time she looked at Me over her shoulder with that pleading, loverly look.. right before she was overcome by nanite flowmetal which flowed and encapsulated her completely... Lastly, the soulfulness of her eyes occulted forever under a swarming chromium nightmare.... She sacrificed herself so I could get away. My beloved gone

Actually,I had a feeling like this song in my high school days.To one of my teachers. Yeah.Lack of air. With a hunch of disaster. Those days,I repeated this video. I watched this for the first time in more than 25 years,I felt...well I shouted "What a student you were!". Well,I realized that "that student" had had blood making noises inside and alive. Now I ,...am I alive?
Awww, I was lucky enough to tape the full version of this off of CityLimits when they did their "Videos We Can Only Play After Midnight" show. It's 7+ minutes, and this edited version cuts off the intro (a very long segment with footage of blood circulation and breathing embryos), the middle portion (Johnson doing lots of inhaling, intercut with the woman making faces), and the extended ending. They've also faded the woman in and out in this version, removing all the nudity. Which is a shame because it really was a striking, sensuous video. Shortening it and removing all the dynamics and raciness makes it look a bit silly.

The band is back on tour in 2024! Hope this one will be part of the setlist ! ♥️♥️♥️♥️
The passion in the lyric: this world isn’t strong enough to keep us from each other, for we are kindred spirits, both to become earthly lovers.
One of the sexiest songs ever performed.
We’ll be long gone and the music will be found.
The The deserve accolades for many great tunes. Hope to see tour this year(2024).

I came hoping for a first-hand account of this song in all its fullness, and you did not disappoint. Thank you for sharing your experience.

You have a marvelous way with words. Thank you for painting a word picture for us that makes us feel like we were there.

Well if it's a joke and you insist on being the sarcastic individual you seem to be, why waste your time ?

such a great song and awesome harmonica
1989-90 was such a great period for the electric harmonica and the wow wow pedal, mainly due to this album, and Spirit of Eden by Talk Talk.
I've been watching you for ages
You're like a boat without a mast
Struggling with the tide of destiny
Between the future and the past
I am the lighthouse
I am the sea
I am the air that you breathe
Gravitate to me
Through the ether
And the mists of the mind
You will come to me
To lay by my side
To stroke my hair
To cuddle my flesh
And to quell the torrents
In my subterranean depths
This world ain't strong enough
To keep us from each other
For we are kindred spirits
Born to become Earthly lovers
I am the lighthouse
I am the sea
I am your destiny
Gravitate to me
There is something within your voice
Something behind your eyes
Something inside your heart
That is beating in time with mine

Adam Thornton oh yeah...the candy was so sweet in Matt J's films....
Is it possible to find it anywhere?
This is the edited (7") version. There is also the standard, longer version of the video.
I used to have the long version of the video bookmarked but seems it was taken down
I wonder if the oxygen mask is a reference to "Blue Velvet" (the blue-ish ghostly woman included)?
A good n weird edit.
Siren song
😮
This is a shorter version than the original, isn't it ?
Iveagh Gardens last week Matt pulled a redux of this song that came correct.
Matt always seems to be lying on a bed!
And they accused the hippies of being a lazy bunch?;-)
It's almost as if kingdom of rain was before this clip. Laying on bed, boots with jeans and black T-shirt, with the same girl reappearing
Where's the rest of the song?
Missing verse at the start?
I love this song, but to make the video of the single version ONLY? I never liked that it just cut off the first half of the song.
too short!
