man, if I were there, I would take a souveneer like a yoke or part of a landing gear, man the newer logo delta airlines is sad to see for a delta pilot like myself, but thanks for sharing, rest in peace my 767
I spent a few years working out there. A lot of these planes are sold and disassembled and parts are refurbished. We would then sell the parts on exchange or outright to operators. Great operation at SoCal.
Seeing what's probably the last handful of L-1011's in the world just sitting there rotting is sad. Loved flying on that big bird to Hawaii! This is an excellent video and thanks for sharing. Would love to see this place someday.
It's very heartbreaking to see the airframes being dismantled, sitting out in the desert, but given their service life, they keep other airplanes flying.
Nice video. It's kind of eerie seeing all those beautiful planes just sitting there, gutted. Wonder if they move much in those strong desert winds? Your video brought back a lot of good memories; used to overfly the area enroute to Phoenix, and usually stopped for fuel and lunch at APV (in a C-172 also) Back in the 80's, Mojave used to be like that--you could "explore" the boneyard pretty easily, and it was a very unique experience standing next to an airframe and hearing the wind whistle through it... Anyway, very nicely done.
People need to understand that air frames have an EOL (end of life). From the first take off and cabin pressurization the clock starts. Even know these aircraft look like they can roll onto a runway and take off that not the case. They are parted and recycled and that's just part of it. They have a lot of value as parts that keep other planes flying.
That's true, indeed. But today, you can extend the life time of aircraft with some good maintenance. Yeah some of the aircraft serve as spare part storages for others when they are not build anymore.
Correct about EOL. DC3 aircraft are still flying after 80 years only because they were not pressurized and of course they were one great aircraft designed and built by Douglas.
I think we know all about the reasons why, but what I'm saying is, why could they not have been made to last longer. Recycling is great, but they just don't last long enough, they were not designed to..
Actually from my understanding once the engines are removed breaking a 747 is pretty close to cost neutral. Painting it is going to be pretty darn expensive though.
$10000 is probably still a bit low, and transporting it to somewhere useful is going to add a lot to the cost. This site puts the figure at $100000 but from what I have read you might want to spend a little more and keep some extra parts. telstarlogistics.typepad.com/telstarlogistics/2007/09/do-you-want-to-.html If you want more information on the aircraft buying process airplanehome.com has decent amount of information from someone who purchased a 727 and converted it into a house.
This used to be George Air Force Base. I was stationed there from May 1977 to May 1979. Victorville is a small town. Adelanto is the little town right out the gate.
My dad was at George in 52. Was with the 420th AREFS, then went to Alexandria AFB in Louisiana, then on to Sculthorpe RAF in England. He was an engine mechanic on the KB-29.
There are so many DC-10!!! Wy the people are killing my old good friends? This is the saddest Video I ever saw...But thank you Fedex for flying DC-10 and MD-11 until the year 2021!!!!
My Dad was stationed there, (George AFB) in 1968 for 9 months. He attended F-4 lead in training there on his way to Ubon, Thailand. We lived in Apple Valley and attended Rancho Verde elementary School. Good times
1:40 G-DOCS. British Airways 737-400. I was on that aircraft when I went from Gatwick Airport to Bordeaux both in 2010 and 2011. Sad to see what has happened to it now. Great video though, mate!
I flew into that airport about 10 years ago and I always thought it was a airplane maintenance facility. Didn't realize it was a graveyard. What a shame all them beautiful planes
@ 8:48, The "Orbis" flying hospital DC-10 is one of the newest ones there. It also used to be serviced at the LAX FedEx heavy maint. hanger. Now I know why I haven't seen it for a while.....
HaaHaa HeeHee-Aviation Fan some will fly again but all things must come to an end better there scrapped then crash and kill a lot of people because of metal fatigue
Yeah but if you do regular maintenance and checks that should not happen. But of course, the older a plane gets, the higher the maintenace costs will be.
EDDHspotter yes look at the 747 -200 used as airforce one these air planes are kept in good condition and have flown less than there commercial counterparts but are to be replaced due to age and the high cost of maintenance and parts.
I find it amazing how short a lifespan jet aircraft have today. They cost millions of dollars and get better maintenance than we do on our cars. its rare to find a commercial jet over 25 years old still flying.
What's sad for me is that I was stationed there (George AFB) from 86-90, and the ramp near the buildings used to have approx 125 F-4E/Gs Wild Weasel Phantoms and about 21 OV-10 Broncos.
THis used to be George Air Force Base. Home of many F4 Phantoms and F105 THunderchiefs of the legacy Tactical Air Command. I remember it well back in 1972.
There sits our fleet of FedEx A310's, A300's, B727's and replaced with B757's, B767's and B777's. We maintain a hold on around 600 airplanes making us one of the largest fleets in the world and our current stuff will wind up there, too and replaced with whatever comes next.
I live 4 miles from this airport, I can see the airplanes from my front window upstairs, seeing different plane taking off almost everyday, Southwest, GE, etc....
Should check the place out now. Within 2 weeks about 50 Southwest 737’s flew in. No idea why they are there. They showed up. Some were moved into the boneyard, others are just sitting on the ramp. They just sit there and every so often a crew will come out and do an engine run.
It shouldn't be that way, I'm quite sure there some countries that cannot afford "modern" aircraft & would jump at the chance to have a 747, but , big corporation company's see only a tax Write off & couldn't care less about a plane rotting....
I'm very surprised to see airlines from some countries end up in Victorville. Like all three of Aeroflot's MD11s seem to have ended up here as well. But otherwise, FedEx seems to go through planes like there's not tomorrow. It's crazy how many of their old aircraft are stored here.
Always wondered as an Australian most Airlines just leave their aircraft untouched livery and all, Yet Qantas seems to always get their tail painted completely red at Victorville before recycling or dismantling?
I would argue that both have their own place still. For some routes the sheer capacity of an a380 or 747-8 can make them worthwhile, and while (thankfully) for passenger service the 747-400 is rapidly being phased out, as a cargo carrier they are still very much viable, especially with a lower initial purchase cost. Both will still be around for quite some time, although more modern twins will almost certainly take over later.
The DC-10's of FedEx are very, very old second hand aircraft, some of which are 40+ years old now. The Airbus fleet is just mostly old second hand aircraft. The funny thing is that most of the 757's that FedEx has been buying are not spring chickens, either. They have quite a few 20+ year old 757 airframes. The MD-11's seem quite young compared to the rest of the fleet, sans the 767 and 777.
MANY of these planes are NOT scrapped - but sold to other airlines, or people for other purposess, and not just these but hundreds of others at Mojave, CA and in multiple "boneyards". This is one way the airline industry reduces waste, pollution and costs by recycling parts, components and yes, even whole planes
What I always wonder about, in these airliner graveyards, is what state the interiors are in. In pristine examples I imagine seatbacks and tray tables "in full upright position", safety cards and inflight magazines in each seat pocket, galleys stocked with peanut snacks and nips of liquor. I am sure I would be shocked by the reality. My big impulse is always to find a way to get inside, to look.
FedEx's headquarters is there. I'd just put new tires, new paint and some TLC and get all these beautiful birds back in the air. Fly them at slower speeds and altitude to get another 20 years out of them. Planes from1945 still fly at some air shows!
loved the video.whats the deal with the airport/graveyard,can anyone go in for a tour? or is it strictly off limits? I would love to go visit and walk around the planes.does anyone know if this is even possible?
peter gonzalez more customers for salvaged parts of the 737 in the states than in Europe. More demand also means higher prices, and airlines like southwest are always needing old 737 parts.
I wonder how much these planes would cost. A lot of these planes can probably still operate. If they are just gonna sit their and not get scrapped, they should let people buy them. I would buy one.
They are being scrapped if you watch the video you can see most of her missing parts eventually take them off chop them up into little pieces and melt them down. Plus some of the aircraft at this airport or actually brand new then are just getting painted and or engine testing.
Not sad dude, those planes have met their purpose. Not the ones that came apart in flight, on take off or landing. All the people they safely got to their destination. They are: Survivors!
Hard to believe BA fly their decommed 737/400s all the way to Victorville when their old A319/A320s get scrapped in the UK or Europe. I've taken many flights on those old 737-400s G-DOCx for my weekly commute between & Edinburgh and Gatwick.
I saw some former US Airways B767-200 on your video. I wish I could tell their tail numbers. I worked on some of them as a mechanic in Philadelphia. We only had 9 in the fleet.
FedEx tends to buy heavily used aircraft towards the end of their life. Probably why they end up having to scrap a lot of their fleet instead of selling it off.
So many of these planes are just here for storage not scrapping like everybody thinks. Many of the FedEx planes will fly again as soon as there is a need for them. I work at an MRO and we do a ton of heavy checks on FedEx aircraft. Airbus A300's and MD-10's right now. Many of the other planes belong to banks waiting to be leased to new operators. ILFC and Wells Fargo are major players in the airliner leasing business and have contracts with Avex (who runs the place) to store Aircraft here and in Mojave 50 or 60 miles west of here. So all in all it's not as bleak as it would seem.
Man if theses planes could talk imagine the stories they would have to tell. Thanks for all the hard work girls rest peacefully
man, if I were there, I would take a souveneer like a yoke or part of a landing gear, man the newer logo delta airlines is sad to see for a delta pilot like myself, but thanks for sharing, rest in peace my 767
I spent a few years working out there. A lot of these planes are sold and disassembled and parts are refurbished. We would then sell the parts on exchange or outright to operators. Great operation at SoCal.
I guess it's a unique experience to work there :).
A great experience. I miss it.
Was it with ComAV?
Seeing what's probably the last handful of L-1011's in the world just sitting there rotting is sad. Loved flying on that big bird to Hawaii! This is an excellent video and thanks for sharing. Would love to see this place someday.
Yeah it is definetly. ^^ It's worth it, you should do that, if you get a chance to. Thanks for your nice comment!
Especially the Delta L-1011 that yellowed overtime from UV exposure.
Put the poor thing out of its misery. Or better yet..restore it and put it in the Delta Museum in Atlanta!
sure that would be much better than to just let it rot.
im looking for a place to buy airline parts to make a flight sim/randyrankin62@yahoo.com
Better than 90% of those planes are moth-balled, still maintained and flight ready within hours. Very few are scrap. I worked there.
Thank goodness for that. They are like lost souls atm ✈🛩🛫🛬 x
Within hours????
I was there too.
It’d be weeks at best, for the vast majority.
-Sad, but true.
Worked at Victorville for awhile....it used to be George AFB.
-An F-4 Phantom base.
So sad....
I liked Apple Valley.
It's very heartbreaking to see the airframes being dismantled, sitting out in the desert, but given their service life, they keep other airplanes flying.
Amazing place, I was there last week, has to be seen to be believed. Lots of Southwest jets in addition to Fedex and BA in storage at the moment.
Nice video. It's kind of eerie seeing all those beautiful planes just sitting there, gutted. Wonder if they move much in those strong desert winds? Anyway, very nicely done.
Thanks! Well we could not tell, as on the days we were there, winds were calm. Yeah you're right, it was an awesome and unique experience.
I LOVE TO SEE THESE OLD L1011 AND DC10 AND MD11(DC11) AGAIN.THANKS FOR POSTING.
People need to understand that air frames have an EOL (end of life). From the first take off and cabin pressurization the clock starts. Ted yellowstone I know but the L1011 Dc10 767 757 747 a340 a300 727 come on these are beauties left to rot and sound all whiney like todays new planes
I wish that was true... But in reality a lot of those planes (especially 747s and md11s) have become obsolete, and were sent to victorville.
Correct about EOL. DC3 aircraft are still flying after 80 years only because they were not pressurized and of

I was stationed here with the USAF in 1973-74, and my son was born there. I'm glad to see somebody is getting some use out of the place.
Made me cry :( so sad to see these go, one day I'll buy a 747 and paint it in Ansett Australia livery and make it my home
Sounds nice :D but you better start saving for that now :D :D :D Gonna cost you a few million $
EDDHspotter Get it on sale! 😂
Actually from my understanding once the engines are removed breaking a 747 is pretty close to cost neutral. Painting it is going to be pretty darn expensive though.
Samuel Doye so your saying I could buy a 747 fuesalage for like 10,000 bucks?

Beutiful and sad at the same time, nice views and proper music regards from Uruguay!
Thanks!
... the steadycam accessory does not cost a fortune... Too many shaky pictures shown...
A once proud George Air Force Base ( TAC ). Now a graveyard for airliners. Good video. Thanks.
Nice vid,I was stationed there in the 80s !! 🍺 😎 👍
Sad but incrdible... 11:11 onwards is quite the sight. Great choice of music too, very relaxing!
Thanks! Yeah I wanted to have some meldodic music in the background.
This used to be George Air Force Base. I was stationed there from May 1977 to May 1979. Victorville is a small town. Adelanto is the little town right out the gate.

I live in adelanto & was born in 97 ... & wondered how long ago this was ... I just knew the abandoned houses were for the air force
Art Robledo I used to close to de airport on de almost de corner of Mojave drive and 395
There are so many DC-10!!! Wy the people are killing my old good friends? This is the saddest Video I ever saw...But thank you Fedex for flying DC-10 and MD-11 until the year 2021!!!!
Indeed it's sad. But that's the way it is...
Yeah but the dc 10 fuel consumption is bad vs modern aircraft. Also the range is also a big deal for companies
Thanks mate! Yeah, indeed, it was sad to see all these aircraft lined up and being scrapped....
Don't cry Wade, they're in a better place.
...and even in death they are BEAUTIFUL looking machines!!!
Congrats on your 100th video I liked and subscribed!
Thanks!
I flew into that airport about 10 years ago and I always thought it was a airplane maintenance facility. Didn't realize it was a graveyard. What a shame all them beautiful planes
Shame for what?... planes cannot flying 50 years
@aydinfsx5574 Well, I kind of begged to differ if they're properly maintain. They can look at the B52 bomber.
@ 8:48, The "Orbis" flying hospital DC-10 is one of the newest ones there. It also used to be serviced at the LAX FedEx heavy maint. hanger. Now I know why I haven't seen it for a while.....
A szívem szakad meg, látva az egykor csodált és várt gépeket!! Ez az élet rendje!!!
Nice video, thanks for shares!
Thanks for watching! Nice to hear you like it :)
I live near both airports. Took flight school at APL. Loved the video.
Thanks!
Nice Video and nice view from the Cessna it is sad to see all of these planes stored and scrapped.
Thanks! Yes indeed, it's sad...

Wow. There’s just so many planes there! I half want to go there, half don’t. Nice vid! :) Liked!
What's sad for me is that I was stationed there (George AFB) from 86-90, and the ramp near the buildings used to have approx 125 F-4E/Gs Wild Weasel Phantoms and about 21 OV-10 Broncos.
Flying in a Cessna built in 1977!
How ironic! ✈️
Yeah in a way it is. Many of these aircraft there are younger that this 😀
seeing those tri-stars truly made me cry
I couldn't help but notice the desolation of the countryside, captures the mood exactly.
Yeah that's true. But the climate they have there is just ideal for storing aircarft.
Been there, done that.
Sad to see but airplanes are like old cars. After so many thousands of hours and landings they suffer from metal fatigue.
Yeah indeed...
Great video! Well done! 👏👍
Thanks!
Adding registration numbers and store dates is a good feature. Well done.
Thanks! Yeah I always tend to give some details on the aircraft in my videos.
Great video . We also visited Victorville for the southwest max
A blast from the past. The British Airways 737 G-DOCX took my wife and I to and from Naples, Italy for her 50th birthday surprise trip.
THis used to be George Air Force Base. Home of many F4 Phantoms and F105 THunderchiefs of the legacy Tactical Air Command. I remember it well back in 1972.
I was there 87 88. PCS'd to the pi one month before it was ordered to close.
A playground for aviation fans.
Yes it is indeed :)
This is stunning ...
Thx
So many classic airliners that I wish were still flying, or wish more of them were flying because there are still a few still flying.
There sits our fleet of FedEx A310's, A300's, B727's and replaced with B757's, B767's and B777's. We maintain a hold on around 600 airplanes making us one of the largest fleets in the world and our current stuff will wind up there, too and replaced with whatever comes next.
buen vídeo , la verdad es que me gustaría viajar a algún depósito de aviones , un saludo desde España ;)
Muchas gracias! Saludo desde Alemania!
Nice video !!!
Thanks
I live near here and this is also where GE is testing engines for the 777x and tested 787 engines and Boeing paints planes here on occasion
Sounds nice!
I live 4 miles from this airport, I can see the airplanes from my front window upstairs, seeing different plane taking off almost everyday, Southwest, GE, etc....

Good video thank you giant plane grave yard wow! 💓✈
Thanks!
So very sad, my heart cannot take it.....
That's the way it is...
It shouldn't be that way, I'm quite sure there some countries that cannot afford "modern" aircraft & would jump at the chance to have a 747, but , big corporation company's see only a tax Write off & couldn't care less about a plane rotting....
Everything dies not just us.
new sub, great video, drove by this place a week ago :)
Thanks man, it is definetly worth a visit.
That’s ALOT of 747’s and dc-10’s!!! Sad to see. I was there in 2000 and remember a lot of delta L-1011’s being there and some 747’s and dc-10.
I been to the one in Pima AZ.. pretty awesome.
I'm very surprised to see airlines from some countries end up in Victorville. Like all three of Aeroflot's MD11s seem to have ended up here as well. But otherwise, FedEx seems to go through planes like there's not tomorrow. It's crazy how many of their old aircraft are stored here.
Enjoyed nice video
Thanks!
This is darn sad to see these fine looking planes what seems to be needlessly rotting away!
Nice shot of G-DOCX It survived he scrappers. Nce shot of it in Miami being converted to freighter on ABPIC website.
Always wondered as an Australian most Airlines just leave their aircraft untouched livery and all, Yet Qantas seems to always get their tail painted completely red at Victorville before recycling or dismantling?
RIP 747 this show us that 747 has come to its end and it will be soon followed by A380s 4 engine airplanes are just not a thing any more
Yeah that's true. They are not as economic when it comes to fuel consumption per pax as e.g. a 777.
I guess, airline wise, 2 engines are better than 3 or 4. RIP 747 you will be missed. 😔
Majin VegetaSixThreeTwo The first a380 has been retired by singapore airlines 😟😣
Michael Schoeman yes, but that was due to a lease ending. SA is still very much an A380 operator and will be for some time.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️the old us airways livery planes!!
Superb !!!
Thanks!
Spent a lot of happy days here in the 80s .
So many FedEx and British Airways...
Yeah indeed. Sad to see all those 734 or 744 of BA and all the A300F, 310 and DC-10 of FedEx......
Fedex is retiring all airbus and McDonnell Douglas aircraft to make room for the 757 767 and 777
EDDHspotter md 11s meet the same fate now
The DC-10's of FedEx are very, very old second hand aircraft, some of which are 40+ years old now. The Airbus fleet is just mostly old second hand aircraft. The MD-11's seem quite young compared to the rest of the fleet, sans the 767 and 777.
Unfortunately yes... It's sad, but that's the way it goes....
Cool video. I'd love to see it one day
Thanks! Yeah it is definetly worth it.
I’m so depressed seeing those planes just sit there especially the 747 I would buy those than live in a stupid apartment.

This is probably the only place you can still find the United Battleship gray painted on a plane.
Jesus some amount of fed ex great video
Yeah quite a few :D thx!
Great video!Thanks!!
Thanks! You're welcome! :D It was fun making the video :D
How sad. I was stationed there in the Air Force 1963-65. The skies were filled with F104's, 105's, 106's and F4's. Now it's just dead airplanes.
Yeah. And some are just waiting to be scrapped or serve as spare part storage for other aircraft.. .It's pretty sad.
Victorville mi ciudad ❤️👍saludos
this is just one of the saddest things I've seen because of all the planes just sitting there, slowly fading away
Surprised to see DC-10’s there to me they are a great plane only issue was early on with the cargo doors.
Is the Victorville Graveyard open to general public OR special permission access only?
Love Apple valley airport !
Indeed, it's a nice, small airfield.
The fto food is excellent , love the burgers
Sounds nice, but I must admit, I did not get to try them.
The planes that haven't been scrapped are still flyable can be bought.
Very sad to see the BA 737s. I flew on them all as cabin crew when they were at Gatwick :(
Definitely...
FedEx's headquarters is there.
I'd just put new tires, new paint and some TLC and get all these beautiful birds back in the air. Fly them at slower speeds and altitude to get another 20 years out of them. Planes from1945 still fly at some air shows!
I thought fedex hq was in memphis TN.
ya, use to go there, cool place, love the L-1011
loved the video.whats the deal with the airport/graveyard,can anyone go in for a tour? or is it strictly off limits? I would love to go visit and walk around the planes.does anyone know if this is even possible?

Not sad dude, those planes have met their purpose. Not the ones that came apart in flight, on take off or landing. All the people they safely got to their destination. They are: Survivors!
Im so sad..
Yeah...
Where did you get the tour from? Did you buy it online or you personally knew the pilot? Can I get a tour?
Hard to believe BA fly their decommed 737/400s all the way to Victorville when their old A319/A320s get scrapped in the UK or Europe. I've taken many flights on those old 737-400s G-DOCx for my weekly commute between & Edinburgh and Gatwick.
Yeah, right, in the end it seems to be profitable to sell those aircraft to one of the scrapping companies there.
I'd love to listen into what they talk about when no one is around.
Nice
Thanks!
I saw some former US Airways B767-200 on your video. I wish I could tell their tail numbers. I worked on some of them as a mechanic in Philadelphia. We only had 9 in the fleet.
Yeah unfortunatley we could not get any closer
You did a great job on this video!
Nice choice of calm music. Nothing jarring.
Thanks!
Wow... whats with all the Feds? great video btw
Yeah it's a lot :) Thx!
@ss yeah that's true
FedEx tends to buy heavily used aircraft towards the end of their life. Probably why they end up having to scrap a lot of their fleet instead of selling it off.
sad to see even some australian 747s 😧
Yeah definetly. In general it was sad to see all the Jumbos there.... still a great aircraft
Omg so many planes being scraped
Yeah...
have you'll seen the grave yard in Arizona this i just a drop in the bucket
Prasad V and so many being built
So many of these planes are just here for storage not scrapping like everybody thinks. Many of the FedEx planes will fly again as soon as there is a need for them. I work at an MRO and we do a ton of heavy checks on FedEx aircraft. Airbus A300's and MD-10's right now. Many of the other planes belong to banks waiting to be leased to new operators. ILFC and Wells Fargo are major players in the airliner leasing business and have contracts with Avex (who runs the place) to store Aircraft here and in Mojave 50 or 60 miles west of here. So all in all it's not as bleak as it would seem.
how did u get that flight, is it someone u know personally or did u book it
I'm afraid to fly but I feel sorry for those birds 😥😥
