    Well produced, executed and informative video bro!! I've been using pellets on my Weber Kettles for a while now, but I picked up some great techniques here.
    You're absolutely right about the cost differential between pellets vs sticks/chunks/chips.
    When using pellets, I'll often bury a couple wood chunks in the charcoal if I need a deeper penetration on longer cooks (butts and briskets).
    Haven't tried "cold smoking" (fish/cheese) yet, but you've planted a seed.

      Cool James and thanks for checking the video out. Let me know how it goes when you do some test with the pellets on your charcoal cookers. I didn't even show cost per use but half a cup of pellets for smoke is only a few pennies and a 10-pound bag would really last a long time compared to buying smoking wood chips from a big box store. Thanks again for checking it out.

    Nice to see a new vid from you. Never tried the pellets. Will give it a try. I see you have a new edition to your smoker collection. I went to Big Papps website. Those drums are quite pricey. Are they in Canada ?

    • @TheBarbecueShow
      @TheBarbecueShow  6 лет назад

      Hey Dan! Thanks for checking this one out. The BPS drum smoker I've had for years and I love it. It's truly a great cooker and they have kits starting around $130 and you can build that smoker with just finding a metal drum. The kit requires no welding or cutting to assemble. I'll you need is a drill with a few measurements to get it fully assembled. After buying a few cans of paint you have a competition smoker for around $150 which can't be beaten. I'm not sure if there have a Canadian distributor that stocks the kit but Big poppas are out of the US but they do international shipping. Shoot them an email to find out more.

    But do you soak your coals in charcoal fluid? If not how do you get them to burn without a starter?

    • @Chilax

  • @julieparsons3216
    @julieparsons3216 6 лет назад

    how do u light a bbq? i use brickckette coals but they never burn, usually add a liquid addition lighter fluid. it always goes out, wat am i doin wrong

    • @TheBarbecueShow
      @TheBarbecueShow  6 лет назад +2

      Try a charcoal chimney but a big factor is where people store their briquettes. Charcoal briquettes can absorb moisture making them hard to light and burn properly if kept in a damp place or depending on the weather they can be hard to light. Try a new bag from any store and I hope they fire up easy. A charcoal chimney is less than $10 and found in most outdoor sections in big box stores. A few pieces of newspaper and it fires up. Good Luck!

    Aren’t the wood pellets more expensive than regular wood?

    • @TheBarbecueShow
      @TheBarbecueShow  6 лет назад

      Price per pound for smoking wood from a big box store in the BBQ section, the pellets destroy them on price and cost per use when used this way. A bag of smoking wood chips I've seen from $7 to $14 which was only a few pounds. 20-pound bags off Amazon is $19. I didn't weight out a cup or half cup of the pellets but it's hundreds of cooks from just a bag. The cheapest is going and cutting wood but for some people, that's not an option. Give it a try!

    about the charcoal fluid. I haven't seen you put any. I thought you need to wait the charcoal is some yellow color to start cooking the meat

    • @poisonduckee
      @poisonduckee 2 года назад +2

      He probably started it with a torch. If you use fluid, you want to make sure it's all burnt away prior to putting food on. I would strongly urge you not use fluid, a canister starter is super easy to use and you don't have to buy fluid and you'll never get that chemical taste in your food. He has a thermometer on the grill. All that matters is the temperature is high enough to cook. You don't want a lot of wood chips/pellets burning at once. Have them either in the foil pack or add just a small amount to charcoal at a time. I hope that helps ✌️

    Please be careful. I did this and the hot pellets fell through the bottom of the weber kettle and started a big fire. Half of my BBQ was on fire and the flame were like 3 feet high. If hadn't gone out to see it, it would have started the house on fire.
