The bobbin winder is the on right side if the machine. You can wind a bobbin as you sew. Hold the Reverse Lever as you change the Stitch Length. Small click as it changes
You have to look under the machine and be sure that your machine has levers for the knee. Then you move the knee lever to the second lever under the machine. If your machine is equipped with two. One is for the foot lift and one is for the Stitch width
You need to check and see if your machine has the double knee lever. If it has the double lever on the bottom you just slide the knee lift over to the second lever and then you will be controlling the width of the Stitch. Not all machines have a double lever.

that would be hard to do without using both hands on the fabric. I think mine has the knee lift option for the zig zag 20u43. I am going to try it.
