  • This family home in northern Belgium, designed by Office O Architects, is situated on a large plot surrounded by pine trees. With gently undulating walls and a wavy roof, the house was created for a couple with two children who wanted something special. The structure includes five different levels connected by a staircase with woven cable balustrades. The design plays with architectural elements such as form and space, using curved walls, varying ceiling heights, and natural light to create a unique atmosphere. The house is oriented towards the gardens, with an entrance set half a level below the street, accessed via a ramp between concrete walls.

That staircase entrance! The curves! There is nothing over the top about the architecture. All of the lines are interwoven, seamless, and flow. Sometimes minimalist design can be austere but not this time!

    Claustrophobia inducing. Sinuous, yet unsexy.
    Amorphic bomb shelter.

Too clinical - in serious need of some artwork on the walls. ... and those cables hardly qualify as a balustrade!
