- A long over due trip. The boys and my self spent 9 hours on the road to fish here. And boy was it worth it. No wonder it is so popular. Every one was so nice. I would like to thank every body there on the day for making it a great day. And a special thanks to Old Gold and Paul Tucker for there tips and support. The boys and myself will be back. Paul I will bring the black pudding.
After watching this, I decided to take a trip to ellerdine, so glad I did ,, caught 4 for the pan, in 40 mph winds,,,what a great place,, smaller than Brenig where I Normally fish, but excellent fishery, thanks Shaun,,
So glad you commented. I have not seen this video for so long. But seeing your comment thought I would take a moment and watch. Shit he can talk. The start. Mind some good points in there. Hope you got the returns part. So glad you enjoyed it. The fishing that is. We have been up there since. And the big fish was mine this time. And a lot bigger. It is on a video hear somewhere. Justin and a few of the boys have done a few trips to Brenig. Justin was on his trials up there more recent. Boat stuff. Actually he is international champ now. Great to hear from you Andrew. And thanks. Take care. Shaun.
Hi Shaun……..Have enjoyed watching all your video s.
This one was no exception…….Thanks for all the
Information you gave out…..much appreciated…..
‘Tight Lines’…….Keep Fishing…..🐬🐟🐠
Thank you so much Harry, I have been putting in a few hours fishing before work. Out this morning at Hayscastle and had three. That Ellerdine lure is doing really well in clear water as well as darker water. I do send my patterns around the country for people to try as well as the boys. If it continues to do well I will put it on a video. But that lure got one first thing, fished slow. Took it off and went my red buzzer, again slow just keeping contact with a slow figure of eight. Two fish and lost two. A great morning. So I am doing it again tomorrow. Nice to hear from you Harry and thanks again. Shaun.
@@shaunfishes101 Hi Shaun………I look forward to the video re your new lure…. Keep fishing
And smiling……Tight lines…….👍🥰🥰
Excellent Shaun. 👍
A new water is not much different to going to your local water. Fish a lot of the time behave in much the same way. But most of all a water will often fish different tomorrow. So its like going onto a new water every day. Every body will have a method. The best method to start a day for a lot of the time, and certainly at this time of year. The lure. Fish it quite fast and cover water. This method is the best way to locate the fish. They may not always take. But instead follow, so keep an eye on the lure as it comes in. Once you have covered the water you should have a good idea as to where fish could be holding. Mind they will move a bit during the day. This is when we start to switch to a preferred method and pattern. I hope this video mainly at the start helped. Mind I have never seen or heard any body explain a log book like this. I think most people just see the numbers. But if you have taken this onboard it will help you a lot more. You can have a lot of different patterns that will work on the day. But for a lot of the time its more important to be at the depth and speed. Lots to learn, but it can be fun. Most of all learn to enjoy it.
Hi Shaun another great vid again looked a very nice place thanks for sharing tight lines on your next trip mate
Hi David and thank you. The boys and myself are struggling at moment for a decent water. It has to be a catch and release, as we do not want to be driving around with a fish in the boot for hours on end. Found one or two but the distance is a problem as the boys cant get the time out from work. But I hope to have it sorted in the next few days. Nice to hear from you David. Take care. Shaun.
@@shaunfishes101 best of luck finding a nice place to fish mate tight lines to you all .. i look forward to your next adventure.
Really enjoyed Shaun. Thank you for the mentions and I'm glad the tips came in useful. I agree about the fisheries, often the staff and locals make the experience magical. Sometimes the fishing is just a bonus. Keep up the good work.
No problem Gareth anytime mate. Hey if you ever fancy a real treat and a good chill. You are more than welcome to join us at Hayscastle. Even try your luck with some of our amazing doubles. Not easy mind they have been in there for years. But these fish are the strongest you will experience. Your ticket is sorted if you do decide to take it on. Take care mate. Shaun.
Love your videos. Helping me a lot as a newcomer to flyfishing. Looking forward to seeing you fish new venues. The help and advice is much appreciated.
Thanks so much Mark. We are looking at waters constantly at the moment. Its not easy. We need a c/r waters really and so many waters have stupid restrictions. We have two local waters, well I call it local, like 1hr away, Which we may cover soon. Keep at it mate and take care. Shaun.
Ellerdine is one of my local waters glad you all had a great day
You are so lucky, so much choice. We will get back there some time soon. I am going to try and get a black pudding with my breakfast. They did no b pudding last time. I hope its fishing as good as the day we had. We are finding lure fishing is not as good as previous years. We are finding small size 14 nymphs doing really well. I have been using olive pheasant tail with pearl thorax. Slim and simple. Fast retrieve to cover the water. if nothing. Slow it down. I have had some good returns. And these are resident fish mainly. Thanks for the comment Patrick. Shaun.
Brilliant video again mate keep them coming
Hi Scott my mate. Sorry about flies. I will get sorted, been a bit crazy at moment. Thanks for the support mate and the comment.
@@shaunfishes101 no worries mate i have still not been out due to my shoulder still not being right hope to be back out soon
Another great video Shaun. Find your videos and content very informative and they have helped me catch fish, most thing that’s helped me and it happened to you on this video is the hang at the end of the retrieve, it’s caught me a load of fish since taking the sport back up in July. Keep up the good work. Cheers.
Thank you so much, I do try, and sometimes its what I do and not what I say. So many people ignore the hang, and it can make a big difference. Darker water I do more of it. Clear water not so much as I can see the fly coming in. And the fish normally see me first and turn away before the hang. Well done mate. Thank you for the comment. Shaun.
Great videos shaun , some lovely trout there , can't wait see were your fly fishing next , keep up the fly tying and knocking out new patterns and keep up the good work 👍👍
As it happens we are working on a few new patterns at moment. For a good pattern we need to fish it in as many conditions and styles as possible. We also send them around the country to a few subscribers to try. And if every body is happy. But its only then that we will let you people know. For most of the time they are simple. Sometimes we take too long trying and tweaking, that we miss the spot. Like we have a really good fly for top of water and evenings. So we will save it for next year now. So you will only see a fly tying video from me once in a while. I am not one for tying a fly for the sake's of a video. Great to hear from you Pat. Take care mate. Shaun.
Wow! Ellerdine is the business! Great day there for sure for you & the boys. See you Sunday 5th at Roz's place, mate! One of your best videos too - nice work, bud.
Shit that time did go quick. Or it did for me anyway. Yes mate will be good to see you again. Thanks Max for your support.
Great video Shaun. Nice to meet you and your mates on the day. Glad you had a good time at Ellerdine, it’s a brilliant venue.
Hi Andy, really nice to hear from you. Honestly mate the boys and I loved the place. And its all down to you and your fellow anglers on that water. It feels like home. And we will be back. Take care Andy and see you soon. Shaun.
Nice one Shaun, hectic fishing, nice to see the three legs of the Isle of Man, my late mam was Manx.
I love the place and the people. I have really great memories of being there. You have probably worked out why I am there. Yes. I love bikes, and have a few of my own. Done the mountain course. Its not cheap. The family went with me once, they are not into bikes. But they loved it. To be honest the bikes have taken a bit of a back seat since RUclips. But I like to try and keep you lot happy. Take care Mike. Shaun.
greetings from Northern Ontario Canada your videos are great we have rainbow trout lake trout and brook trout plus splake have done well with splake using an intermediate clear line using a conehead black river bugger also a fly called the foxee created by Bob Clouser inventer of the clouser minnow
Wow!! so much for me to learn. I have no idea about a splake or the two patterns mentioned. But I will check these out. I do follow a few channels over there. But none have ever mentioned the splake, or not that I remember. Really nice to hear from you and thanks for the watch and most of all the comment. Take care. Shaun.
@@shaunfishes101 hi Shaun the correct name for the first fly is the bow river bugger available from the fishin hole catalogue in Alberta Canada a splake is a cross between a female lake trout and a male brook trout also called speckled trout both are actually char which makes it really curious that it was possible to cross the brook trout with the brown trout which is a true trout to produce the tiger trout i bought the foxee pattern direct from Bob Clouser himself in the USA that was a few years back try punching in his name on you tube or google Rob
Great video Shaun. Glad you enjoyed your day.
It was brilliant mate. And you lot up there are amazing people. I love the place. We are looking at other waters at the moment. Not easy when you are as fussy as me. We should have saved Ellerdine till last. As they say, save the best till last. I have got a real feel for the place now and really looking forward to the next trip. Thanks mate, catch up soon. Shaun.
I know it will be far away but I'd definitely suggest Elinor Trout fishery near Corby...
You are correct on two counts. It is a long way for me. But what a cracking water. May be one day. Thank you so much for the suggestion. Take care. Shaun.
Great to see you out and about with the boys Shaun and showing us new fisheries. Lots of good advice here for beginners and seasoned campaigners alike. Although some waters have some reliable fly patterns, everyday is different and up to date advice from fishery owners and regulars is invaluable and time well spent. As important as patterns is location and feeding depth. On heavily fished waters it also pays to try something different. I would really get bored with eating just hamburgers everyday. So yes, experimentation is key. Keep up the good work and stay safe mate..
Hi David, this moving about on other waters is not as easy as I thought. The boys and I have been on line for the last 2 weeks checking out waters within a certain radius, so that we can do it in the one day. This is mainly due to time off from work. There is so much rubbish around. Then a lot of them are for kill fish, which is fine. But we don't fancy having a four or five hour drive with a fish in the boot. But this last trip was brilliant, not just the fishing, but the fun of the trip its self with the boys. We have got two decent waters about one hour from home, but I have done these before. one of which is where two other mates was with me and they did not have there glasses. Remember. Any way we will sort something. Justin Allen who was with me in the last video, is an amazing fisherman. A fish magnet. He lives about 2 hours north from me, and he has said about the waters he fishes, which is mainly for the spring/ summer. Mainly big browns and pike. So at least we have some good stuff on the way. Great to hear from you and knowing you are home and safe. Thanks David. Shaun.
Ayup Shaun , maybe I’m bit biased mate but this was a cracking vid & wish I’d stayed later on now with you fellas . Nice rainbow Justin & Di got some action to, got the black pudding joke also mate lol. Like I said before great bunch of fellas u lot & when you next around give me a shout 👍🏻thz for all comments
Thank you Paul. Yes Di and myself were around 9 apiece and Justin was a good bit ahead. He normally is mind. But I have told him make the most of it, as I will be on it again soon. Honestly mate it was a great day, and we are all missing it already. We are looking at other waters now and we are struggling. Yes there is water with fish in it. But boy is it crap. We need c/r waters, as we don't wont to have hours of driving with a smelly fish in the boot. Will definitely contact you when we come up. Thanks for every thing mate. Shaun.
Great n informative video Shaun 👍 over there tomorrow 👍 hope I 'struggle' like you did...only had 2 last time I was over 🙈🤣🤣👍
Hi Richard, first of all thanks for the watch and the comment. If you are fishing a two fly cast keep em close. Work those margins. There was a lot of fish in meadow on the margins. Try various retrieves, but mainly slow. That pattern you can see in the video was on it. First cast, on and off, second cast on. it was hitting fish all the time. bulky and slow. Good luck mate. We will be back up there again some day soon. Its a great water with great people. Shaun.
How was the fishing for you and every body else today Richard. I did a couple hours at Hayscastle before work. 1 on my Ellerdine lure. And 2 on the buzzer. My red buzzer. Every thing fished slow. Missed a few others on the buzzer. Back again in morning before work.
Great tips can you do a video on your blue flies please. Jim.
Jim I am so sorry. I do miss a few comments now and then. But I do try to get to them all. This has to be the worst. Nothing as bad to see every body get replies, and you have had nothing. Yes I would love to do something to cover the little blue. This is a very consistent pattern. In fact I had two resident fish on it the other day. If you are asking me about tying this fly, you may have to wait, as I am struggling with camera for this at moment. Sorry for the very long delay. Shaun.
Nice one Shaun - looks a nice venue that 👍🏻🎣
Hi Chris, really nice to hear from you again. Its a long way from our home, but what a place. The locals are amazing. It was great to have a cuppa and just chat. Fishing was pretty good too mind. Take care Chris and don't over do it mate. Shaun.
great video.the new net is it a wychwood rover the salmon one?hope so ive got one coming so hopefully no more knackered nets.yours looked quite capable of doing the job
Its a great net Tosh. But if there is any complaint, its the depth. a bit shallow. Fine on the trout. Smaller ones. When I netted Justin's fish at end using his Rover Trout, I had to do a double sweep as the fish nearly rolled out. A few of the boys have these nets and they are all happy. I am looking into a replacement netting that could be just that bit deeper. May end up doing a video on them soon. Demonstrating the benefits. Keep in touch Tosh and take care mate. Shaun.
@@shaunfishes101 great idea im on third net ive only been fly fishing since end of august.knowing which decent net to buy would have made it easier for me and the fish.ive had them jumping in and out,got a bigger triangle shape net a demon to scoop them and then it folds nearly in half with my first decent trout.for catch and return a proper net with a decent handle is a must.come on shaun show us newbies the way!!!!!
Love this! I am based in Stockport and would love to fish here, going to make the trip now I have seen this. Would love to join a fishing meetup at a venue if that is ever a thing :)
It is a great water, or should I say water's. Due to its size you can cover most of the fish. And there are some great fish in there. We found the Spartics the better fish. And if you are finding it a bit difficult, you can always ask the regulars, They are great. And as fishing with you could actually happen. The boys and myself are constantly looking for quality waters to fish. C/R preferably. I now of one water, Arnfield. But if you have any other suggestions that would be great. Thanks for the comment Andy. Take care mate. Shaun.
@@shaunfishes101 Thanks for the tips for Ellerdine. I have fished Arnfield a few years back and found it pretty hard work from the bank but I did eventually get my biggest ever trout there. Westlow Mere is a great place that is a similar neck of the woods but it is kill first 3 fish. Another I have been to recently is a small still water called Danebridge right next to a brewery which is fun and does C/R. Let us know if you plan to fish round this way would be good to get some tips and say hello.
@@years101 The boys and I will look at these waters. The three fish one we will knock on the head. And yes I will contact you when we are in your area. You will love it. The boys are not just good at fishing they are good fun. Thanks for the reply Andy. Take care mate. Shaun.
@@shaunfishes101 heading to ellerdine saturday!!
@@years101 I bet it's going to be a busy few weeks there. Great to get back out. We have been looking at Ellerdine for our return trip. We are going to try and cover as many water's as we can before the start of next season in April. Hope you have a really enjoyable day. Take care Andy. Shaun.
You’ve gotta try Pennine Fishery Shaun. It’s about another hour past Ellerdine. Some place
BC mate it takes me 4 hours to get to Ellerdine. Mind would not rule it out. Yes hear plenty about it, and looks good on vids. Take care mate. Shaun.
@@shaunfishes101 does it? Jesus 😂
Hey Shaun, Another cracking video and info. As a novice fly fisher I love getting as many hints and tips as possible. Do you have any plans for another video on Garnffrwd? I'm visiting in late May with a couple of friends 🙂
Hi James, Garnffrwd is a great water. I have not put as much time in there as I would like really. But its funny you saying that now as a few of the boys have mentioned getting back on it up there. I normally have a season ticket. But yes you will be seeing a good bit more of garn. April / May is great for the buzzer. And I will hope we get a buzzer hatch like we had several years ago. As I need to do a buzzer video when the fish are hard on it. There face book is a bit quiet at mo. If this is the case before you go. Contact me and I may well have info on the water. Thanks for the comment James. Take care mate. Shaun.
So many fish! That's nuts. By chance are you a tournament fly fisher?
Was a long time ago. The same as Justin who fishes with me, but he is more on it than me. And for the fish, you have days when all is well, then days when they are tricky. But a good day can see over twenty in a session.
is that a dragonfly 635 reel i have two and they seem similar why do you have the handle on the right.?
Yes David it is, and like you I have a few of them along with loads of other reels. Its a long story that started over 40 + years ago. But it became habit. I am slowly changing them as I am getting used to other side. Thanks for the comment David. Take care mate. Shaun.
Where do to you get braided leaders from Shaun ?
The shop.
@@shaunfishes101 Nice of you to be so vague mate :))
