One thing Nepalese need to know that Sikkim was an independent nation from 1945 to 1965 AD and Sikkim preferred to join India but didn't join Nepal and Nepal had absolute monarchy at that time. Not Just nepal but there were multiple Himalayan states that were independent from British i.e Kashmir Garwal Kangra Sikkim Gilgit Bhutan all were independent only colonies they had in Himalayas were the areas they took after defeating Nepal and Sikh empire like Kumou darjelling and some himanchal region
The reason the British didn't colonize Nepal is that Junga Bahadur Rana made Nepal an ally of the British Empire and helped them suppress the Indian rebellion of 1857. The British were so happy that they even returned four districts to Nepal. His successors continued his policy of appeasing the British. It looks like Nepal were not only brave but they were good in negotiations and political game. As a country, they never surrendered and did what they could to save it. If it was for todays leaders, they would sale the whole country.

People laud the hardwork Nepal did back then to preserve nations integrity. I don't think Nepal was ever proper developed with resources like even India back then. Nepal was very poor and still poor nation. Nepal is a country of Himalayas and hills. No proper transport facility from way way back then to now. Not only that, Nepals politics is very bad. To this day still. And we can't see progress anywhere proper. No big companies that can provide job opportunities expect noodles company. And the thinking of ministers in Nepal is old as they are. Saying our nation was never colonized is just a trying to feel proud moment, Nepal never was a land of riches or developed nation at all in any way. Houses built in 1920-30 in European nations including england were way better than it is now. The cleaniness, the roads constructions, transportation services ect were all way way developed. Nepal was so poor, most people were starving and wearing worn out clothes. Less food to eat, destroyed by rana reigime and kept uneducated, for years. Kings were also not that focused on Nepals real progress. It would be better if Nepalese citizens focus on how to keep rich businessmen investors and let them innovate products in Nepal so it can grow in large scale. Otherwise India and china will invade Nepal eventually when their resources start dwindling. Be proud of your ancestors, not live in it. Progress from it. And learn to compete with new ideas and thinking's. History is a history for a reason.

Nepal didn't have many resources(nepal had resources but were discovered a century and a half after the war in 1814) like India. 3. Terrain was very challenging. 4. Not Just nepal but there were multiple Himalayan states that were independent from British i.e Kashmir Garwal Kangra Sikkim Gilgit Bhutan all were independent only colonies they had in Himalayas were the areas they took after defeating Nepal and Sikh empire like Kumou darjelling and some himanchal region
The reason the British didn't colonize Nepal is that Junga Bahadur Rana made Nepal an ally of the British Empire and helped them suppress the Indian rebellion of 1857. The British were so happy that they even returned four districts to Nepal. His successors continued his policy of appeasing the British. The British gave up the idea of invading Nepal again after that.

People laud the hardwork Nepal did back then to preserve nations integrity. I don't think Nepal was ever proper developed with resources like even India back then. Nepal was very poor and still poor nation. Nepal is a country of Himalayas and hills. No proper transport facility from way way back then to now. Not only that, Nepals politics is very bad. To this day still. And we can't see progress anywhere proper. No big companies that can provide job opportunities expect noodles company. And the thinking of ministers in Nepal is old as they are. Saying our nation was never colonized is just a trying to feel proud moment, Nepal never was a land of riches or developed nation at all in any way. Houses built in 1920-30 in European nations including england were way better than it is now. The cleaniness, the roads constructions, transportation services ect were all way way developed. Nepal was so poor, most people were starving and wearing worn out clothes. Less food to eat, destroyed by rana reigime and kept uneducated, for years. Kings were also not that focused on Nepals real progress. It would be better if Nepalese citizens focus on how to keep rich businessmen investors and let them innovate products in Nepal so it can grow in large scale. Otherwise India and china will invade Nepal eventually when their resources start dwindling. Be proud of your ancestors, not live in it. Progress from it. And learn to compete with new ideas and thinking's. History is a history for a reason.

second NEPALI and its PEOPLE never had to be a SLAVE of ENGLISH MEN. yes there were RANAS but if you look nation as a family then yes we our ancestors had to be slaves of rana but that was between us between nepali.
so no matter whatever you argue with or say, nepal was colonized internally but for me what matters me is that PRIDE and i have that EGO that PRIDE of never being colonized and you never saw a board like it was there INDIA saying, 'indians and dog are not allowed' so i feel very much proud that this is not i had read about my history.
British also never colonised many princely states in india. They were happy to keep a buffer state between British India and China. Also, the government of the time was cooperating with them fully. So no need for colonisation.
What resources come out from Nepal that time that British wanted.
-Hill Areas : Most of beautiful hill stations are taken by the British.
-Trade route to Tibet: Trade route to Tibet was opened from Uttarakhand & Darjeeling after Nepal deflected.
-Man power : British used to get Nepali labours to exploit & build infrastructure in India
