I just had mine removed yesterday and yes it hurts but it was worth it . I am still nauseous from the anesthetic but I should be better soon. But I am bleeding from my incision constantly, should I tell me doctor?
Vincent Griffin It’s not as bad as it looks.. I’m 15 and I got this procedure done about a month ago and I’m feeling better every day. It all depends on what hospital you get it done at , the surgeon, and the pain management.
I had Pectus when i was really young. As i was turning 13 my 30 year old mother noticed i couldn't keep up with her and i was at times gasping for air just on long walks. She took me to a doctor where they diagnosed me with this condition and proposed the surgery to my mom. She agreed to go ahead with it and around the time of my 13th birthday i was being wheeled into a surgery room where i was given gas to put me to sleep. I woke up later and tried to sit up, managed to get halfway before i felt pain and pressure in my chest. It felt like I could feel my bones being moved ever so slowly. I believe It took about a week of letting the scar tissue heal up and physical therapy of dealing with this feeling of metal being planted in my chest. That was almost 15 years ago now and I have to say my quality of life wouldn't be anything close to what it is now if i didn't get that surgery.
My significant other is planning on getting this surgery and I wanna make sure it won't affect certain things I do like lay on his chest and stuff, I know recovery will take time but afterwards would it be okay?
@@Ash-ru6bt it shouldn't have to stay In forever. I got it done at a young age and had it removed in a couple years. The bar will make the chest area feel sensitive for awhile. I just wouldn't put too much weight on the area. Laying your head their should be okay though.
How painful is it and does the metal bar stay in you forever? I want to get my chest fixed but I’m kind of afraid to get it because I don’t know how painful it will be and I don’t want a metal bar inside of me for the rest of my life preventing me from doing certain things if it does prevent you from doing thing like working out
President Doge ✝️ I’m getting this surgery in July sadly, the bar only stays on for two years Until it is removed and while the bar is in you you can’t do any heavy activity or anything that involves twisting your torso. For me I can’t take any strong pain killers because I have a kidney condition so it’s gonna hurt a lot for me. For most of the recovery you’ll be on pain killers or at least I think. I just got told today about my surgery 😓
Kayla Rojas I wish you the best of luck and I hope the surgery goes well for you, I hope your pain won’t be so bad but again I hope the surgery goes well for you
Okay, please answer this. I don't have it as bad as it is in the video, just on my inner right chest there's kinda a slant and it feels like there is not muscle or anything there. Does it take long for physical therapy after this operation?
M7MD ٣٩ well not trying to scare you, yes you do feel pain but you are put on medication to help reduce the pain and is looked after by nurses the whole time. (Based on what I hear by other people)
I didn't feel any pain cause I had an epidural in my back giving me morphine, but they do turn the dosage down day after day to make you used to the pain, then you're just on regular painkillers for a couple of weeks. You feel better every day and in a month or two you won't even notice that you have it.
I have this and mine is pretty bad for a girl... it’s only noticeable when i wear bathing suits so i’m not too self conscious about it but it does hurt me... I often (maybe like 3 times a week) get heart pains and have trouble breathing because my heart is placed abnormally/pressed on by ribs...I am planning on getting the surgery in the future because it is getting worse but I would only get it once I stop gymnastics which should be a few years from now ...i’m really scared after watching this
i got this surgery in june and i’m not gonna lie it was a very painful recovery but it has truly changed my life! i can breathe now and i’m no longer in pain so i 100% recommend this surgery
Well hear in the UK its not talked about much you go to a doctor they are like what is that not even on any of the NHS database so when I saw the doctor about it she had to go on Google to find out more about it
does anyone know when you can start exercising again? I play soccer and want to know when is the soonest i can start playing again if i get this surgery
I had this condition and let me just say its such an unnecessary burden. Not only does it look weird which made me self conscious but it then started to heavily affect my breathing so at 21 I had to get the surgery. And the surgery kind of sucks because it takes over a month for the pain to go away and you cant play contact sports like football or do heavy chest exercises in the gym for half a year. But in the end Im glad I had it done because the confidence boost post op is incredible not to mention the breathing improvement. I would 100% recommend getting it done while young though! (Under 18)
The best age for the surgery is 10-16 years. The most common complication is the pain after the surgery. However, in most cases it can be managed by painkillers. Moreover, the iron metal is taken out after several years.
I need this as well but.. I’m highly afraid this would back fire or something.. this could help me breath better at least. The doctors told me that my cave isn’t too deep to affect my heart at all but may affect my lungs a bit but other than that I can live a perfectly healthy life. My girlfriend doesn’t want me to get the surgery because it shows I’m different from others and loves the uniqueness. However, she said if it does start affecting me dangerously then I need to get it. But seeing how its like I just worry it could.. you know.. mess me up..
Elise Langseth that’s why I say it worries me cause I’m unsure if they would mess up on surgery not if this wouldn’t be a success haha. Sorry I wasn’t clear on that
I have a concave chest but it does not affect my breathing in anyway I know about. It's just really annoying to have it, but you know it's something to deal with.

Yes, at any age it's fine. I'm getting mine done at age 12. Elders way older than you also get theirs done so you should be fine. You can contact your doctor.
It gets more painful the older you are because your bones become harder I've had the surgery twice once when I was 7 and when I was 14 the first one was far easier and I was out of the hospital in about 6 days the second one was the worst pain I've felt in my life I was in the hospital for two weeks I wouldnt suggest getting it after 20yo
In the UK not many doctors no about went to one about said nothing to worry about my ribcage will eventually get in to a normal shape same with a chiropractor. Recently went to see a different doctor and she had never seen anything like and she had been a doctor for 13 years so I'm doing a spirometry to see if it is affecting me in anyway and to also see a specialist.
I'm going to Cincinnati Childrens (huge amazing hospital) And to most likely the best surgeon in the country, doctor Garcia. If there's a whole in ur chest, u have it. It better to get it done because IT WILL get worse and worse, to the point ur chest dips down to touch ur heart and get pains like me, getting surgery in 6 days
Just got surgery for this legit 7 days ago only got 4 cuts, 2 large cuts on the side, 2 small cuts on the side no cut on my chest. Didnt feel any pain when i got out, they said we were gonna stay in the hospital for the week but we stayed for 3-4 days once i felt well. But its still kinda hard not slouching when i walk since i just got that surgery, i still need help getting up from my bed.
JOLINA GIVENS It’s so you won’t dislocate the bar. It first need to heal so the bar stays in place. After 3 months you can begin to do fighting sports again.

I honestly want to get this surgery but my parents don’t let me I’m tired of people calling me gross and disgusting because of it I hope when I grow up I can get it
Well i cant anwser the first question that well because i havent been exercising that much yet, BUT what i can feel id say i can breath more air.. And it didnt cost me anything because in Finland we have free healthcare.. What country are you from and are you going to have this, and if so when??
I had the procedure done last May. I was 17 and I got the surgery done because the indent from the pectus was noticeable and it was limiting me to physical activity. I got tired a lot faster then everyone else. My case was mild. After the surgery I was in the hospital for a week and a day and returned home. The pain after surgery is a bit painful if you move to much or push yourself. You will be on medication around the clock so you don’t feel as much pain as you would. You will more then likely have a hard time trying to sleep, going to the bathroom, etc. Pretty much everything. When you are able to go home though you will still have to make sure you have someone at home with you at all times because you won’t be able to get up on your own for another week or two. Also to make sure you don’t need something you can’t get because you can’t do much still. After a month of surgery though you will feel better and be able to do most home activity’s on your own. You will feel much better and be able to breath better and not get worn out nearly as quick as you did. With my experience I think it was worth it and I will recommend it to anyone who thinks they may need it.

I’m 18 years old now but I was 17 when I got this surgery done. I had it done last May. Also I don’t think you should be afraid of getting the surgery done if she needs it. If you want I could talk to you about my experience with the surgery and having the bar in afterward. I also had my surgery done at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. I’m sure one of your concerns were the bar flipping. That was our main concern because we thought it would be possible for it to flip and always worried about it. I ended up getting into a car accident where a guy ran a red light and hit my car from the side at about 50mph. The bar didn’t flip or get damaged. I felt no pain in my chest at all afterward which was good. The bar will take a lot of force for it to flip and I hope to not find out lol. I was in the same situation as her though. I got tired out a lot faster then my classmates in school and you could notice the indent in my chest pretty good. When they did the measurements they said it was mild and I did qualify for surgery but I didn’t need it. I decided to do it though because I knew I would be happy afterward which I am. If you want to ask me more questions about my experience I wouldn’t mind helping you and your daughter out about it. If you want we can have a conversation in this comment or Skype or discord.

I'm a 12 year old girl. I am going to the best doctor and the country, doctor Garcia. He's an amazing doctor, also. I am getting it done in a huge hospital, Cincinnati Childrens. My pectus got noticed when I was going to my yearly checkup. When the doctor was checking my heart beat, he felt a dip in my chest, and that's where it began. My mom had to take pictures of my chest so they could examine. I got scheduled an appointment with doctor Garcia for my pectus, I think the doctor that first saw my pectus recommended it to my mom when we were there? Doctor Garcia asked me to make jokes for him and stuff like that, he was a fun doctor. When he saw my chest, he noticed I did in fact, have a sunken chest. I continued to meet him and for like the 3rdish time, he told my mom for me to go to about 15 different checkups. He said each time, it sunken more. One checkup, I had to put headphones on and glasses that make a movie project out of them. They strapped me on a bed like thing so I couldn't get out. They then put me in a tube like thing which I couldn't see in, they made me take breaths then hold for 5 ish seconds each. I watched Harry Potter btw :P When I got out I felt ded, like when u first see light after you've been in a cave. The lady that was doctoring me was on something which I never got a chance to see, it was like behind the tube I was in, was monitoring the inside of my chest and how it reacted when I took a breath. They didn't hurt me, tho. Another one they put me in a clear box like thing. They told me to breath in this tube when they say and hold breaths and stuff. Back to the one where they strapped me and I watched Harry Potter. The results were that when I took a breath, my chest slightly touched my heart.;-; Some days later, when I woke up, my mom told me I had to get surgery. I was not in the mood I wanted to cry, honestly. I'm still on edge, I have not gotten the surgery, I'll get it in 6 days. I'll edit this in at least a month to tell you what happened. I had to go to a class about my surgery not to long ago, in the class they filled us in on lots of important info. We stay in the doctor for 2-3 days. We will get breakfast lunch and dinner, served my the hospital. People will come in sometimes to check on you or cheer you up. We will be woken up 5 hours after surgery, but if we are completely not ready they'll wait another hour or two if needed. My mom will pack me clothes for the day's I'm at the hospital. I can also have meh phone but mom said I might sleep all day >:3. When I get home I have to go to the couch instead of my room >:3. I can't extend my arms fully uwu. My mom has to give me showers, get my dressed, etc;-;. Before surgery they insert a tube thing in my pee hole so I don't pee ;-;. Anyways surgery pretty self explanatory.

Having surgery in 3 day, I get out 2 days after prodecur
ritz it’s pretty bad the the first couple days but you have a pain pump near you at all times that numbs your entire nerve system.
Does the bar have to stay in forever?
My significant other is planning on getting this surgery and I wanna make sure it won't affect certain things I do like lay on his chest and stuff, I know recovery will take time but afterwards would it be okay?
@@Ash-ru6bt it shouldn't have to stay In forever. I got it done at a young age and had it removed in a couple years. The bar will make the chest area feel sensitive for awhile. I just wouldn't put too much weight on the area. Laying your head their should be okay though.
ZombieAnatomist oh okay thank you so much for the help :)
Kayla Rojas I wish you the best of luck and I hope the surgery goes well for you, I hope your pain won’t be so bad but again I hope the surgery goes well for you
How much $ is it for 25 years old man?
Okay, please answer this. I don't have it as bad as it is in the video, just on my inner right chest there's kinda a slant and it feels like there is not muscle or anything there. Does it take long for physical therapy after this operation?
You might have the condition where you are missing a pectoral muscle
Did anyone else curly up when the hook pulled the chest up. Just me. Okay.
I screamed
I'm getting mine done this summer
Did you do it?
How was is
@@elshootingstar why did you removed it?
@@elshootingstar I still have a while for mine to be taken out my surgery was 3 weeks ago and boy am I glad the pain has gone down
@@anakinskywalker9594 I had my surgery 3weeks ago too, do you still feel any pain tho?
Do you feel pain after the surgery?
M7MD ٣٩ well not trying to scare you, yes you do feel pain but you are put on medication to help reduce the pain and is looked after by nurses the whole time. (Based on what I hear by other people)
I didn't feel any pain cause I had an epidural in my back giving me morphine, but they do turn the dosage down day after day to make you used to the pain, then you're just on regular painkillers for a couple of weeks. You feel better every day and in a month or two you won't even notice that you have it.
Wait so they just leave the metal part in your chest?
WAT, IMMA HAVE MINE IN FOR 6 YEARS
@@elshootingstar is it ur chest back to the normal like others fter tht?
Getting this surgery in June... any advice people of the comments??
Dont push yourself too hard it takes a long time to feel 100% dont feel frustrated when you cant do things you normally do
I have this and mine is pretty bad for a girl... it’s only noticeable when i wear bathing suits so i’m not too self conscious about it but it does hurt me...
Audrey Burt did you use to have sharp heart pains when breathing sometimes?
Bailey Rose yes! I still get them from time to time
I fell with you😘
Well hear in the UK its not talked about much you go to a doctor they are like what is that not even on any of the NHS database so when I saw the doctor about it she had to go on Google to find out more about it
Should i go for surgery? I live in Estonia and i am 14 years old. I'm feeling a little pain in heart and my resistance in running is really bad.
I'm getting this surgery at the end of the year
does anyone know when you can start exercising again? I play soccer and want to know when is the soonest i can start playing again if i get this surgery
I had my surgery on 9/27/18. I got 3 bars. Most painful experience ever, but I'd do it all over again. Life is so much better now
anesthetics?
You got three bars??? What is the limit to the number of bars???
What caused you to get the procedure done? Aethetics? or was it causing you pain, discomfort, trouble breathing, pressure on heart? etc?
Does anyone's heart feel like it's being compressed when you breath at certain times
(Under 18)
What if you g through a metal detector
it does nothing

It stays in there for about three years
What about the adults ?
I have a concave chest but it does not affect my breathing in anyway I know about. It's just really annoying to have it, but you know it's something to deal with.

@@elshootingstar what hospital?
I’m 28 yrs old is it still ok to get this done
My ex boyfriend getting this sugury and ive been watching alot of video to help me not to worry.... i don't wanna see anyone in pain...
it hurts like hell for the first week or so, and sneezing hurts like a bitch, but after that you can go about your life with only minimal discomfort.
I have this but not at all severe, i can feel my heart beat everytime tho
That's not necessarily something to worry about but if it's bad, contact a doctor
Glad u made it out with harmony:) just about to have mine in 6 days
im about to get this surgery and i was wondering is their a chance for me to box
No. You can't extend ur arms fully or exercise until 3 months after surgt
how long do you need to recover from this surgery before you can start working out?
JOLINA GIVENS It’s so you won’t dislocate the bar. It first need to heal so the bar stays in place. After 3 months you can begin to do fighting sports again.
Lost can you walk around nornally during those 3 months?
Lost does your pectus get fixed immediatly?
Lost does it hurt everyday or just at the beginning?Mia are you feeling?
I have the other version of this
How long does it stay in for
2-3 years, had the surgery done a week ago
Innocent Genius how painful is the surgery
I have this but only on one side of my chest. Does anyone know what this is called.
I guess an asymetrical pectus excavatum, maybe excavatum + carinatum at the same time i can't say without any picture. If you want to know you need to see a doctor who knows about chest deformities
I honestly want to get this surgery but my parents don’t let me I’m tired of people calling me gross and disgusting because of it I hope when I grow up I can get it
How long is the recovery, and how long do I keep in the bar before I could be active again?
Recovery? Well i was a week in the hospital and cant be in PE class for 2 months. Ask anything
NotSoGoodGamer Did you feel like you could breathe in more air during exercise, and during daily life? Also how much did the procedure cost?
NotSoGoodGamer I live in out here in the USA. Our health insurance plans are terrible. Thanks you for all your help. I don't know when I'll receive the procedure, it has to go through my insurance first. My insurance is terrible too because they could just claim "cosmetic" and not give us the money for the procedure.
I need that surgery. The surgery is there or not over my plcace In malaysia

Okay moving to norway now....
Idk why I upset myself with looking into this. I’ve had Pectus e since I was born and been having a lot of pain for nearly 2 years, only to be denied surgery as my consultant said ever so nicely boys get it worse so my pain is psychological. Guess I’ll be on co- codamol until the pain stops (if it ever does)
The real questions are how much does it cost and also when i do this I'm ganna have a metal bar in me for the rest of my life? 😐
I've done this 4 days ago, it's free in my country

I have pectus and it sucked :(
My left side of my rib cage is smaller than my right side and the front of my rib cage a little to the left is caved in slightly. The left side of my back is clearly smaller than my right and I hate it. I lift consistently and when i look in the mirror shirtless I notice it and it bothers me to no end. Im sorry. Can i ask how is she doing now? Is she going to get this operation? I you need any help i can speak to you. I had a similiar operation 3 months ago..

@@solinvictus2132 it was the worst pain in my life
I'm a 12 year old girl.
