Honestly the critique itself isn't thr problem, if her runs were redundant she should be told about it. The problem arose when Kim asked her whether or not she liked her, why, and, when she was finally told why, her instant deflection of it in the form of basically saying "Well, good luck without my advice." Turning what should have been a teaching moment into a grab for validation was the cardinal sin here.

Don't know Kim but I hear nothing wrong with how she said this. She's not tearing the woman down. She seems to shoot straight with you to get the best out of you and her delivery was gentle. Kim is old school no nonsense might hurt your feelings but when I'm done you definitely got it! That's how they all did it back then especially Dr. Mattie Moss Clark. They didn't stroke your ego, they made you sing it right. Those are the ones who can sing with or without music, no flat notes when it should be a sharp note. They taught us to hear ourselves. That harmony back then was only superceded by the heavenly choir baby and it didn't matter if your choir only had 3 or 4 folks sounded like 50 voices. To sing and to minister you need a thick skin and yes there are some ugly folks all up in the church! Tell the truth somebody!

The nice sweet one - we always sit around and tell stories of her goodness, how she showed us love , and gave us up lifting advice. My tough grandma- no one speaks of her with fond memories. If you’re gonna be in the music business you gotta be able to take some harsh criticism. You can’t be in your feelings all day long even if you’re singing the gospel.
Don't know Kim but I hear nothing wrong with how she said this. She's not tearing the woman down. She seems to shoot straight with you to get the best out of you and her delivery was gentle. It probably stings the woman a bit to hear someone criticize her when all she probably heard most of her life is she is a phenomenal singer. I know I'd personally feel some sort of way too🤷🏾♀️
What's mean about saying your notes are redundant? 🤔 that's a maker of an amateur 8 days a week. And she didn't even say it with a attitude or a nasty belittling way. The lady has an attitude problem I just don't see it in this particular 35 second clip.

Kim is old school no nonsense might hurt your feelings but when I'm done you definitely got it! That's how they all did it back then especially Dr. Mattie Moss Clark. They didn't stroke your ego, they made you sing it right. Those are the ones who can sing with or without music, no flat notes when it should be a sharp note. They taught us to hear ourselves. That harmony back then was only superceded by the heavenly choir baby and it didn't matter if your choir only had 3 or 4 folks sounded like 50 voices. To sing and to minister you need a thick skin and yes there are some ugly folks all up in the church! Tell the truth somebody!
It isn't about just the singing though Kim is very mean and rude in other instances lol

Thats an excuse. Being old school has absolutely nothing to do with anything. She’s mean spirited and her age should have afforded her experience. Being a church leader she should have learned how to guide and nuture talent not destroy their hope

Yeah, and everybody today, and even the harsh ones back in the day, must give an account as to how they treated and or are treating others....there's a way to do everything and even Jesus himself and the Holy Spirit are never rude, aggressive, etc ...Jesus is love, and as "true christains"we are to be that as well. If Jesus wouldn't do it, we shouldnt be doing it either....we are the representation of him....suppost to be anyways.

No. Folks are soft. She comes from a day in time where folks said what the meant and meant what they said. And folks weren't so soft. They took it and kept it pushing. What they did with it was up to them. I was brought up that way. My grandma was that way and she had a heart of gold. And she meant well. I'd love to meet more people like her in my generation. Lilliann Hemingway I had two grandmas one nice and one tough like Kim Burrell. Both are now deceased. The nice sweet one - we always sit around and tell stories of her goodness, how she showed us love , and gave us up lifting advice. My tough grandma- no one speaks of her with fond memories. I always say , hey we wouldn’t be the people we are today if she wasn’t tough with us. Good and bad. Personally I never want to make anyone fell as bad as my tough grandma made us feel. But wouldn’t u want ur family to have uplifting memories of u after u are gone? Cause the world is going to be tough on us ....that’s true however that Praying kind grandma had more impact on my life than those mean comments from my grandmother
