    So, I'm not a screamer, (actually I'm a country/jazzy/bluesy mix...though I love to venture outside THAT as well XD) however, I saw Michael Barnes was in it and I thought, ".....AH!, MUST WATCH NOW!" Haha! All of my friends at school were very surprised to see that I am a HUGE rock metal lover! At school I was known as the singer who did solos (like an adele solo I did. that was fun) for chorus and listened to Celtic Women and just seemed like an all around quiet gentle girl...at first...Then all of a sudden I'm rockin out to bands like Red... I love it when people feel free to mix it up. If I (by some MIRACLE) can EVER get a singing career going I want to be able to reach out to everyone, not just one group of people, and share the love of and music and God. Music is (in my opinion) the #1 way to move people. It can inspire someone, or tear them down. There's so much music out there that just leaves people so depressed...Don't know why I went into this all of a sudden... LOVE YOU RED!!! Keep encouraging and inspiring!

    I have been singing for about 4 years and never knew any of this. My voice is probably a bit damaged, but thanks to you maybe I can fix it. This is great! Oh, and Michael, if you read this, that time I met you @ Kingsfest (I was the guy with a Red hoodie in 100 degree weather), I really meant it when I said I wanted to open for you guys, and I am definately gonna cover all of your songs. Keep it up, bro!

    Guys at Singing Success - Honestly, you could have a monopoly on rock singing. Nobody has created an even DECENT method to do the type of singing the guy in this video does, and there's a HIGH demand for it. I've tried basically every product imaginable and yet it's not been near as helpful as even this series of videos. Please, do more like this!

  • @Audrey4Mack
    @Audrey4Mack 13 лет назад +1

    Not only did you give me some great tips on how to scream, but you taught me how to take care of my voice while practicing screaming and that is more valuable. Damaging my voice is no fun. I have done it enough trying to scream slipknot without tips. I would have to wait hours and hours before i could sing again because i had done damage. Once damage is done, the quality of singing afterwards is horrible. I miss notes i go into falsetto, and now i wont have that problem :D soo excited!

    Thank you soo much Michael Barnes, these screaming tips are awesome. I just didn't understand how to do it before these four videos! I am a good singer and I like heavy metal, but was never able to join in on screaming at concerts or along with cd's without damaging my voice. I would always use too much pressure and get a harsh tickle in my throat causing me to cough. NOW that is no longer a problem, and this took about... 20 mins out of my life pfffft WELL WORTH WATCHING!!! thanks again! :)

    I doubt they'll actually see this, but worth a shot;
    You guys should explain how to get the vocal fry into scream more efficiently because that's the part people have the most trouble with and its also the part that never gets thoroughly explained

    Hey! First off I have to say, I have been taking the singing success and mastering mix courses for a while now. I acknowledge that I haven't been practicing as diligently as I should, but I have a concern and I'm hoping you'll help me out.
    I've noticed that for some songs (like Lost, and Pieces), you don't attempt the really really high notes while singing live. I want to know if Speech Level Singing prevents this. Per SLS, the voice isn't really strained and theoretically, it should be easy to hit the notes. This has been a concern for me, and I wish I could get an answer for this from you, or anyone else from the Brett Manning Staff.
    Thanks in advance,
    Josh
    P.S. fellow readers, Brett's course is really awesome and revolutionizes you as a singer. Just wanted to throw in that I really am happy I took it up. Totally worth the money.

    I also scream false chords. Then I figured out to get a similar sound to this distortion over an actual tone. However, I'm not sure if I'm doing the fry technique because I can control the distortion from my throat and aim it to my hard palette as well. But I've heard that fry doesn't hurt your voice and while my sound is similar to Michael Barnes' my throat can still get a bit sore. None of the videos I've watched on RUclips taught me how to make this sound, I figured it out by experimentation.

    you shouldnt give up though, cuz i was like that where i was like i cant do fry i don't like it screw it, but there always gonna be that place where fry sounds better and its also safer and more versatile so u should still work hard to learn it. it also gives u more experience, credit and respect i guess you could say because your being persistent, and expanding your sound by learning multiple techniques.

    His tips only apply if you use the same style that he does. It doesn't help if you're a false chord screamer, like me. I kind of want to scream the way that he does, but you can tell that in the vocal tips he's going "easy" and not putting the amount of pressure that he uses in his recording. It sounds very different when you're doing it "right" vs making it sound good.

    I'd love if you could get more into the head voice version of that scream as i really got problems with this. I find no problems with screaming in chest and part of my mix but at some point i just get stuck even though i have no problems with singing those notes normally. I mostly do death metal and i got growls and the high pitch counterparts pretty much covered but i would love to add some variety with those not fully distorted screams.

  • @hentajus
    @hentajus 13 лет назад

    if "you've never sang before" or "don't know anything about singing" well... "singing success" won't really help you. You still have to have a base first, learn to hit notes etc. "Singing success" can give you good technique, but i don't think there's an actual program out there for the absolute beginner.

  • @xSmittyxCorex
    @xSmittyxCorex 13 лет назад

    @RickyRoro777 I think you really just have to give it time, cause screaming kills your voice much faster than singing. I don't think you can really "practice" it persay; you can't work on it enough in a day without damaging your voice to be very effective. I COULD be wrong, but that's how it's been for me...the range and control just naturally matures with time if your concentrating on proper technique

  • @nchadwick100

    i love Halestorm as well, but Lzzy has more of a growl scream than an actual all out scream is how i would describe her vocals. all 3 are really awesome bands though!

    messa di voce exercise teamed up with staccato/slide/staccato. the former conditions your vocal cords and uses a slight bit of pressue to keep them closed. the latter coordinates the chords for a proper attack of the cords. chest and head voice are important but without the pharyngeal cavity well builtup yourscream wont be worth shit. if this doesnt make since id just buy the mastering mix program. it has shut a lot of people up on what or what can not be done with the voice

    When I really got into music and singing I fell in love with metal and screaming. I love to sing but I get so frustrated because my voice isn't as "rockish" as I'd like. I started out with Joan Jett trying to get that edge and I got that part down, she was a female rock icon but seriously I just wanna scream. I feel like I'm too scared to do it and I'll be stuck with a ridiculous girly voice. Anyone know of any songs I can practice with?

    Heyo! Thanks for the videos, all of which have been helpful. I'm trying to figure out what a good practice regimen would be to work out on a daily/weekly basis. Obviously screaming for hours would be a bad thing, so do you sing cleanly as warmups and work into screaming? You said in former videos to keep hydrated, eat well, and sleep a lot which makes a lot of sense, but as with anything I feel to get better, a good workout routine is necessary. What would you recommend in general? Thanks for your time!

    How do I get my voice not crack? I have trouble with cracking (breaking the tone I'm singing) and control. I injured my voice when I was younger and it used to make my head feel like someone grabbed the upper part of my jaw and pulled down really hard and it felt like this all day. I try to resist singing when this flares up, though it hasn't for quite sometime. I just want to know how to not let this happen again and to get myself to be able to scream properly. you must be having strain on larynx, when you sing high notes the muscles in your neck can have the urge to pull the larynx up and i used to do the same and i had that trouble swallowing feeling too. i think its like when you exercise and its sore. try to keep your larynx relaxed.

      Also try making a really small O shape with your mouth and really push out with your diaphragm. While you are pushing out try to lower the pitch. It sounds silly doing the O shape with your mouth but it's really hard to do lows with your mouth open really wide.
