I will never forget this song.., 8th grade memories, I was always teased as “the hobo” since I played the oboe and couldn’t try any other instrument. I knew it was a joke, but still played along with it and I will never forget it. Middle School Band will always take my heart. 6th grade to 8th grade were the best times of my life and I always cherish it every day.
This song makes feel so feel nostalgic for the winter of my 7th grade. 3 years have passed but it still brings back so many memories. God I miss middle school.
Oh, wow! Like most of you, I played this during my middle school days as well on the Flute. Though this was 12 years ago : ) Always loved the Flute part at the very end that sounds off key as to give it this mysterious feel or the feeling that there's more to say but the story is at it's end.
Buttercup S. Lol I’m in ninth grade in concert band and I play this I’m trombone it does get a bit tricky though especially since I have very little experience playing trombone.
I played this at this years midfest in Athens and it’s one of those songs you can feel. I can’t listen to this without feeling it resonate in my soul. It’s a great piece on clarinet (and good luck to any baritones who had to play this)
we will be playing this song in our Banff Tour next year, this song is going to be played, I am very excited because I play oboe! Such a beautiful score, thank
I played this on clarinet in sixth grade. I only played clarinet for 2 years, I started in fifth. This brings me tears when I hear it. I was able to prove myself to others and let them know that I can still be good even though I’m the only one playing my part.
Llolmuffins try Alligator alley my band played it last year at state and we were the only band to get the best rating. My band is very good with very tough music.
he did not die while making this song In 1986 he completed a new composition titled Greenwillow Portrait. Feeling that it wasn’t good enough, Mark threw the handwritten manuscript into the trash. Connie pulled the manuscript out of the trash and insisted that he send it to a publisher. - See more at: artsedresearch.typepad.com/blog/2008/03/a-tribute-mark-williams-band-geek.html#sthash.NfYGveUu.dpuf he already made it before he died
I play Baritone too, in 7th grade, and I find this piece pretty easy, my advice is to improve posture if you have to, and practice a lot if youre still having trouble hitting those high notes.
As a percussionist (who was unfortunate enough to get stuck with the timpani part when my band played this) this song is beautiful, but I did not enjoy my 42 measures of rest followed by 8 measures of crescendoing rolls
