    Loved your prior film on Coffman starter land and field commander tractors had such a device loved the planes on carrier deck they used to chain them down backwards toward the sea to allegedly get more power !!!

  • @Hopeless_and_Forlorn
    @Hopeless_and_Forlorn 3 года назад +11

    This is very similar to the WWII-era Coffman starter for aircraft engines. Rather than springs, the Coffman utilized an explosive cartridge to pressurize a piston in a cylinder and move the spiral gear. The results were similar--a single, hard twist to a pinion gear to get things started. If you want too see a Coffman in action, check out the 1965 movie, Flight of the Phoenix.

    Very interesting. I would have thought they would have used something like a massive torsion or coil spring. The use of conical springs is neat. It's probably a lot safer to disassemble as well.

    I have had a design for a diesel engine that uses no electricity at all in my mind for years. I have been trying to come up with a starter mechanism that requires no electricity at all to work. I thought of using a pony motor for a starter but decided it was too much complexity for what I had in mind. This would be perfect. My engine design is now complete.

      All this stuff is well known so get better at research. It's WILDLY unlikely you've come up with anything new to the industry. Did you not know diesels with no electrical components were and are common? Lister and other stationary engines don't require electric start or anything else. Hand cranks on large flywheels are a common way to start small diesel and petrol engines. Air starters are another option and they recharge off truck air brake compressors permitting manual pumping if required in an emergency. An example of purely mechanical engines are the wildly successful Detroit two-stroke diesels which have been fitted with air starters by many customers. You can't build an all-mechanical fuel control diesel that burns cleanly enough to meet modern emission requirements but you can personally run whatever you like/can get away with in your country.

    This is an intriguing design. I like the use of Belleville spring washers. Compact and safe. Minimal moving parts and durability are top concerns in a device like this.
    It would not be very practical for an automobile, with the engine enclosed. However, for industrial and agricultural use, this would be a game changer for a lot of people. Hunting down the jumper cables so that you can start an auxiliary generator makes little sense.

      Bei 00:47 ist es sehr wohl ersichtlich! Wenn das ganze Federpaket komprimiert auf der linken Seite ist, und der Auslöser betätigt wird, dreht sich die Welle, da die Kugeln, die in den Schneckenrillen einerseits und in der Führung andererseits sind, die Drehung erzwingen wenn sich das Federpaket entspannt! war mir bisher auch unbekannt, aber ich ich informiere mich ob ich das beim Innenborder Diesel anwenden kann - scheint mir ein gutes Sicherheitsfeature zu sein!
