I love your energy and your videos are superhelpful. One request-- how about some content on restoration of old leather items-- stuff that has sentimental value, or has been sitting in an attic, etc.? When is the leather just too far gone/when can we bring it back to life with a good cleaning and a conditioner (or some other technique)? The little bit of content I've found online has involved breaking the item down to its components and then doing a full rebuild, sometimes using pretty harsh cleaning agents. I'm guessing that's not always the best approach. -- Personally, my entry point into this hobby was a briefcase that I inherited from my father that I've been working on. It was made with full-grain leather, I think by a saddlemaker. It's at least 40 years old He used it every day for 30 plus years. It has seen periods where it was kept in good shape and periods where it was somewhat neglected while still being used every day. My father liked to keep it looking a little worn to help with the whole "simple country lawyer" image..... So far I've cleaned and conditioned it, but there are a couple of spots where the stitching has frayed a bit; there is a small tear in one spot that should be reinforced; and there are a few things about the design I'd like to improve/update (i.e. no laptop sleeve/spots where it would be better if it was a bit stiffer where there are some crease marks, a bit more organization/penslots, the existing pouches/organizational slots are just too bulky to be useful, etc.). I'm guessing I'm not the only person out there who got motivated to get into leather crafting because there was that one item that they want to put back into use that they inherited or found or what have you that needs some TLC before it can be put back into regular use. I've been playing around with other projects (smaller stuff, wallets, simple sheaths, etc.), but I've been intimidated to go any further on Dad's briefcase because I really don't want to mess that project up.
This guy is the Norm Abrams of leather
Chuck, you rock, Thanks for another great Element
Another nice video. Loved the tip about letting the buckle hang over the edge of the marble to set the rivet!
This guy is so nice and charming. Good job b
I love finding this channel. Just started doing leather working and it is helping me navigate all the tools and how-tos. Thank you!
Thank you for watching!
Thank you for a step by step instructional video. Been binge watching all your tutorials the past few weeks.
Question for you, is there a reason why the back of the wrap wasn't also "antiqued" to match the front? Is that not necessary?
Love the way your passion for leather craft shows! Thank you again!
gorgeous!

Me encanto👏👏
Currently making multiples of this project, but had a question. What are your thoughts on burnishing the edges and treating the back?
Супер мастер!
bom dia. adorei , mas gostaria que seus videos tivessem legenda, pois não falo inglês.
Hola. Me gusta mucho sus videos, pero, podrian colocar subtitulos en español? Asi podria entender mas. Muchas gracias.
Hello, what size holes for the rivet and size holes?
👍👍👍
Hermoso😍
Can you stamp foiled leather?
Do you make leather belts for sale? around 11 to 15 ounce leather?
Thanks for the videos!
Several have asked but I’ve seen no response...during the antiquing/dye process the edges and back can get quite messy. How is this addressed on projects?
Hi Joseph,
Check out the video below, it's a chapter from our belt making video series. Chuck dyes the back of leather but then applies tape to the back of the belt before he applies antique finish - this will help the antique stay off the back and helps from seeping through the holes. ruclips.net/video/JNpd8jDfC68/видео.html
Great Video! What size holes did you punch with the revolving punch for the size holes?
Hi Darlene,
Thank you for watching! We used the #2 hole which is 7/64".
Does Chuck seem a little down in the dumps in this video?
Did you put some kind of keeper on there for the buckle?
Hi Scott,
We did not, we used a center bar buckle so the buckle itself acts as a keeper. If you would rather use a heel bar buckle and add a leather keeper you could absolutely do that!
Weaver Leathercraft thank you!
you are Awsome
I just wish you would show the end product.on the wrist and I had a hard time seeing what you did with the rivet. Did you come straight down or across the leather ,I use double cap rivets all the time and just couldn't see what you did on this project. Love your stuff man but this one I think you rushed the video.
Hi Jimmy,
We've got step-by-step instructions on our website here: www.weaverleathersupply.com/learn/how-to-videos/projects/making-a-simple-double-wrap-cuff The rivet was set straight through both holes that were punched.
You can also see a picture of the finished bracelet in use here: www.weaverleathersupply.com/catalog/item-detail/65-4969/double-wrap-cuff-project-pack/pr_55527/cp_/shop-now/kits-patterns-books/kits
Let us know if you have any additional questions and we apologize that the video seemed rushed to you.
Thank you for the comment!
Do you HAVE TO treat all.leather??
I dont know how i feel about putting chemichals on my leather, specially going against the skin
Hi Ana,
I'm not sure what you mean by treating it? If you want to leave the leather natural, it's best to add some type of oil such as mink oil to keep it from drying out. The only color we added to this was a Fiebings Antique Finish and a Leather Balm top coat but you do not have to add this if you don't want any color.
I had.s9meone entioned.treating leather, now im confused, someon3.told.me.to useeax.on my p3ather, alao others mentioned rubbing wax, hmm maybe they lied to me, sorry for the questions.
No worries, it's always good to ask! It's kind of up to each person's personal preference on what top coats, dyes, etc to use. The products we use in our videos are the ones that we've tested and liked but its good to experiment for yourself.
