I just started a mbuna tank. I listened to what you said and decided to go with less aggressive mbuna in a 75 gallon. Started with groups of 7: P. Acei , C. socolofi , I sprengerae , L. caeruleus. The fish are all between 1"-2" size. It's so fun to watch. Size wise the socolofi are the largest but my guess is that the acei will catch up by end of Summer. To me the acei have a beautiful purplish blue hue to go with the yellow fins. Remarkable Fish!!!
Yea they are in groups i have sen this in the lake and keep em in a 25er (even more from the fry) group at home with Pseudotropheus crabro and Labidochromis sp. perlmutt. One of my best pond i have !
I'm thinking about a set up with just a group of these and then one other group to go with them, would you pick the rusty's or saulosi as the best tankmates or would all 3 groups work together better in your opinion? Cheers!
I had a big fat Acei in a 125 gallon tank, quite a character, he would let me pet him anytime I opened the lid. I know he was expecting food but didn't mind me touching him.
Idk if you check comments on older videos, but I’m curious to know if you think the Red Tail Shark would do good, with a 6 fish colony of White Tail Acei? The tank is a standard 75g
I went with a rainbow shark for my mbunas! The red tails parameter requirements were a little out of my comfort zone. Did you end up getting one?! How'd it work?
I am thinking of getting these fish. i currently have 5 (2") Yellow Labs and 1 (3") Albino peacock with some green cories in a 55gal. no chance of upgrading for a couple years. Should I risk getting Acei b4 other other cichlids get too big?
I have a 90 gallon tank. I am worried they get to big. Or is 90 gallons ok? (120 cm length). I want Acei Itungi , and they look great. Is 2 males, 5 females good?
I might not try to mix them - they get fairly large - 7" or so, are quite active and in some cases might be a little too aggressive for most of the dwarf cichlids like rams, apistos, kribs, etc.
Thanks a lot! I love your channel and quick responses. I know it's hard to get to everyone, but I appreciate you guys very much. When I started, I followed your videos and tried to do the same because in my apartment, for example, I could fit a 75-gallon tank,But I went with a 55-gallon tank! Because of your videos, I had a 40 breeder, but you guys inspired me to get a 55-gallon for my peacocks and mbuna. I don't have a lot of peacocks, just mostly mbuna. Although I wish I could go with the 75, there is a space issue and weight. So far, my mixed community of mbuna is going very well. Thanks, guys! Please keep up the videos. I would love to see a video with all your adult mbuna and peacocks to see exactly what size they grow to. Loving my 55 gallon!!
I always raise a couple Mbuna with peacocks and maybe a gap when I get them small in a grow out any time I do a group change or add fish I add no less than 5 but I find that if Mbuna grow up with peacocks from a young age there is no cross aggression and they each occupy their own niche within the tank peacocks handle peacock business and Mbuna handle Mbuna and the yellow lab group are contained in their own affairs as well
I have 3 yellow fin acei and they're the most aggressive fish I have I had to move them to their own tank by themselves because they kept killing my fire throat cichlids and Oscars
If you ever need to catch these guys, they practically swim into the net. On another note, you had a lot of female fish holding eggs/fry in this video.
Please do some research before giving information on any fish. These are primarily harbivore fish... so spirulina and other plant based food should be the primary primary food source, not just "treats".

This is the *best* reference for this species on the Internet. It has helped be tremendously when I got started with Mbuna. Thank you!
Thank you!
My dad had huge group of them when i was a kid and they bred like crazy they always looked cool to me.
I just picked up 3 of them. And I can say . They do like hanging out with each other.
Have a pair,if you like African cichlids get them today. Love to watch your videos Jason. From Ireland.
Mine also stay in groups. Everything you've mentioned I have also experienced with my aceis. Very colorful fish. Thanks for the videos.
Appreciate you watching!

Thumbs up on the Acei!! Just started back up my mbuna tank with yellow labs acei and rusty cichlids!
That'll be a nice set up!
Very cool fish, as you say they are probably the least aggressive mbuna. Thanks for sharing your experience Jason!
Thanks for watching! Ya, they're pretty easy going. : -)
I have one yellow tail acei, one electric yellow, and one rusty and they get along great, always together!
beautiful tank layout and just stunning fish
Thank you!

One of my best pond i have !
Sounds really cool!

I prefer the saulosi - more color!
I had a big fat Acei in a 125 gallon tank, quite a character, he would let me pet him anytime I opened the lid. I know he was expecting food but didn't mind me touching him.
If I were to come into 25 of these, where and how would I go at trying to sell them? Thanks
I always sell through local fish clubs, auctions and swaps. You could try a local fish store as well.
very nice tank! Please tell me where I can get that same or very similar design of texas holey rock from ?
I got ours a a local fish store.
Perfect timing on the video! I am currently in discussion with a local hobbyist to purchase a breeding trio of this exact fish!
Very cool! I think you will like them. : -)
Great Video. I am getting them for my 175 Gallon!
With Dark Substrate. 😉
PT i have found them to be good/aggressive eaters , also they grow and mature quickly.I can confirm they are darker on a black substrate
Wahrscheinlich sind sie bei weißen Sand heller da sie bei hellen Sand gestresst sind und es sie blendet.
Und gestresste Fische werden blass

That could work!

Very cool fish in a beautiful tank!
Thanks for the valuable info and sharing your experience Jason!
Thanks - appreciate you watching!

That's a tough call because of how big acei get. RIght now I have a few in my 75 gallon that are probably 7"?
Great content as always.
Thank you!
Is it weird if my Acei, which was the biggest and fastest in the tank, disappeared overnight and left no trace, in less than 8 hours,
I have a 90 gallon tank. I am worried they get to big. Or is 90 gallons ok? (120 cm length). I want Acei Itungi , and they look great. Is 2 males, 5 females good?
A 90 gallon should be ok. I might scale it back to 1M:3F
@@PrimeTimeAquatics wow, thx for the answer 👍😁 yes, still not sure if i should pick them or another smaller breed 😊
What’s the name of the black and grey cichlid at 4:47 Please
That is Metriaclima elongatus
I've got a dwarf Cichlids aquarium, can I keep these & other types with them? Among others I have Rams.
I might not try to mix them - they get fairly large - 7" or so, are quite active and in some cases might be a little too aggressive for most of the dwarf cichlids like rams, apistos, kribs, etc.
They are beautiful! Thanks for the info!
Thanks Heather!
How long to get if mbuna to get big from juveniles
They grow fast - usually less than a year.
Thanks a lot! I love your channel and quick responses. I know it's hard to get to everyone, but I appreciate you guys very much. I have a orange cichlid , what other cichlids get along with these ?
If it is a red zebra cichlid - acei, yellow labs, rusty cichlids, saulosi are all good options!
Prime Time Aquatics thank you for your quick response , subscribed
Could i put a firemouth in with a acei?
I might not do it, but sometimes it works.
How do u stop flashing?
As long as they don’t have ICH or some other parasite - you don’t. It’s a communication signal they use.
what's good temperature for them I have mine from 77 degrees to 78 degrees
Mine are kept close to that temp as well -78 - 80 degrees.
ive kept mine at 76 they have bred at this temp
I’ve done the same!
My acei is my tank boss 😅. I've heard they are mellow but boss is not so much
Anyone no if they go alright with haps or to aggressive for peacocks electric blue a blue dolphins.
I had them mixed with peacocks and haps in a 150 gallon without any issues. I currently have them with some blue dolphins without issues.
i got one with peacocks and blue dolphin goes perfect. the dolphins think they're the same and vice versa. they school together
I always raise a couple Mbuna with peacocks and maybe a gap when I get them small in a grow out any time I do a group change or add fish I add no less than 5 but I find that if Mbuna grow up with peacocks from a young age there is no cross aggression and they each occupy their own niche within the tank peacocks handle peacock business and Mbuna handle Mbuna and the yellow lab group are contained in their own affairs as well
So when the eggs are in the female’s mouth, how do you know if they’ve been fertilized yet?
She won't hold them if they haven't been.
That contradicts 5:20 - 5:33.
How big do the yellow tail acei get?
The biggest I've seen them get is about 6"
New sub here. Nice job tank looks great. I have an acei as well, beautiful fish
They are great fish!
Amazing, can i ask how old are te Acei?
Have a nice day😄
At the time of this video maybe a couple years?
Wooww, how much liter ?
I like to have at least a 75 gallon for them.
Very nice video.
Thank you!
How do you know that she is not cross breeding with another type in a community tank like this.
It’s easy to see the results in the offspring
I have 3 yellow fin acei and they're the most aggressive fish I have I had to move them to their own tank by themselves because they kept killing my fire throat cichlids and Oscars
nice profile
really enjoy your videos...wife doesn't get the hobby....probably a good thing!
That's ok, you can do what you want than. :-)
If you ever need to catch these guys, they practically swim into the net. On another note, you had a lot of female fish holding eggs/fry in this video.
In the wild they are open water schooling fish
mine is very aggressive!
Good info, but tank is far from how is should look like ;)
Please do some research before giving information on any fish. These are primarily harbivore fish... so spirulina and other plant based food should be the primary primary food source, not just "treats".
The cichlid flakes I use are primarily veggie based as is most of the other foods I mentioned.
Please listen carefully before commenting - he did say that they were *herbivores.
It's pronounced "akey" not A.C.I.
