    Very cool to see you do this, Rob. I find these videos very interesting to watch and see what people have and what their values are. I've been recently considering doing the same type of video. Like you, purely out of interest as there's no plan to sell; also like you, I thought about omitting my 3 Beatles' mono reissues - and one Dylan box set - to keep the 10 fresh. We do share one similar album. Thanks for sharing. Very cool to see your butcher cover again. Cheers!

    Loved this video!
    I would never sell anything in my collection either. I love records to touch every single day, listen to frequently, and cherish.
    So, we have that in common.
    And speaking of Sixto Rodriguez,
    I actually have him ranked higher than the Beatles. I did see the award winning documentary, Looking For Sugar Man. I own the soundtrack to that movie as well as Cold Fact and Coming From Reality. He is a master of lyrics. His voice is a cross between Bob Dylan and Jose Feliciano.

So I also use Apple Music through a DAC through a tube pre-amp/headphone amp which goes either to my receiver but mostly headphones. So I found, and saved, every one of your records except for Blue Rodeo and Yesterday and Today. Guess what? High res digital done right sounds great. Guess I’ll just have to live without those 2. Hi Rob, My most valuable record to me is my original copy of Venus And Mars signed by Paul, Linda, Denny Laine, Joe English, and Jimmy McCulloch. In the 70s and 80s it was really easy to get autographs in Perth, Western Australia. MY last autograph (2014) was Bruce Springsteen which I have a photo of me getting the signature on Born In The USA CD. I got two others done as he was in town for a couple of concerts. I have over 100 Records/CDs signed.

      @@NorthernRevolutions As I said, Perth in the 70s & 80s was easy to get them. There were only 2 hotels that they would stay at (In the 70s). I lived in Kalgoorlie at the time and we came down for the concert on Saturday 1st November 1975 and stayed at the then named Sheraton hotel. Paul and crew were there and I got them after they returned from the concert. The CD was signed outside a radio station as he went in for an interview in 1993. Just had a look and there is a video of that interview. Look for his name and 96FM Perth.

    Rodriguez was always famous in Australia. We had a local release of cold fact in 1970. We get alot of US cutouts in Australia. A local DJ brought a copy back from the states, and had it in heavy rotation on his show. Once all the cutouts and local a&m were sold out. Both his albums were reissued here in 78-86. The south African guy stole the story of how the Australian promoter found Rodriguez and brought him out to Australia in 78, and again in 1980. His rarest album alive was released in Australia to coincide with his second tour down Under. Cold fact and his Australian best of were in the Australian top one hundred from 79-86. Until I saw the movie I had no idea he wasn't famous in the states, as he's always been famous here in Australia. I'm 43 and grew up listening to Rodriguez, I had the privilege of meeting him and getting my copy of cold fact signed. He toured her about 3 years before the movie came out. I also have that south African pressing. I will never understand why Bob Dylan was so famous, when Rodriguez is 100 times better. It's great the world has caught up and he can live from his music

    • @NorthernRevolutions
      @NorthernRevolutions  2 года назад +1

      Hey Kevin. Thanks for the insight. All we know about Rodriguez here is what is in the Sugarman documentary. Which is crazy as he lives in Detroit which is only three hours from here. And generally people only know whats in the doc. I met Rodriguez too very briefly but wasnt able to get an autograph. Maybe I should track down an Australian pressing of Cold Fact. I know of the Live album. Wish I had it.

      @@NorthernRevolutions I snagged a copy of the live album last year. I payed a fair bit, but not the full asking price thankfully. The Australian blue goose pressing is pretty easy to come by. I had ten copies at one stage, I used to gift them to people starting a record collection. They sold really well here. The Australian best of is worth owing as it has two unreleased tracks including street boy. The cover art is the cold fact cover with Rodriguez sitting on the step (from second album) inside the circle. The story about him killing himself on stage is written on the liner notes of the alive album. So the south African guy who made the film must have been aware of it. I guess it was more interesting to leave out the Australian story and say he rediscovered him first? Have you heard the Steve Rowland and the family Dogg album? He produced the second Rodriguez album. His album has some great Rodriguez covers and an unreleased track "advice for Smokey Robinson". Sorry to crap on I'm a Rodriguez tragic 😂😂

    Hi Rob , as a born and raised South African I can tell you that the prices that Discogs / dealers are asking for Rodriguez is outrageous and unjustified . Before that movie came out you could find that Record for anything from around R50 to R100 ( equivalent to around $3 to $6 US ) . The South African records dealers have just jumped on the bandwagon since the movie came out and now ask rip off prices for it , and sell on discogs at even more ridiculous prices to take advantage . There were a dime a dozen of these records floating around and i remember being able to buy this record brand new in the late 1980's early 1990's for for just over R25 ( roughly around $ 1.50 )

    Asking price'' may not help much, even less than the Median. Discogs is full of folks asking way too much or way over 'market' price. As a rule of thumb about 20% less than the Median might give you a very rough value. When I price I look at a range of online sites, talk to other dealers, watch utube videos to get a feel for demand, etc. Discogs how many want it, is a useful metric. OG Rodriguez SA is definitely one many collectors would pay 300-400$ for. Oasis? Is that music? Ranting I call it, thugrock!
