HELL YEA DAN, RELIVE THAT GOLDEN ERA OF ANIMATION AND FILM MAKING, I SEE YOU
best grumps animator btw
I am the 69th like. Now we just need 69 more. Love your animations Shoocharu!
@@kuroishiofficial and NSP animator
Please animate Arin talking ab nutting, etc while Dan tries to wholesomely play Black Cauldron 😭
PREACH, SHOOCH!!!
Nothing makes me happier than a random, 1hr+ long, Dan game episode.
Dude, same. It's like an early Christmas present
Yep, it’s in its own class of unexpected pleasures, fo sho
Dan's games are always a blast. Wish they would play another Sam & Max game
💯 percent ❤
@@Ysondoa I think maybe Dan never played the other Sam and Max games. I really want them to play them though
My jaw actually dropped when I watched Arin smoothly climb that rope without missing a single beat. And he's finally gonna get that kiss?!? Go Video Game Boy!
The rhythmic clicking of Arin absolutely beast-moding the rope climb 🙏
It was so satisfying
Highlight of the vid.
Right? That was SO smooth. The complete silence from the two made it all the better.
Dan: This rope part is the hardest in the game
Arin: I bet I can do it.
Plot twist: Does it.
@@agiar2000 Not only does he do it, he fucking kills it.
unfortunately Arin has now expended all of his gaming skill for the year
And he did it xD
That was such a wonderful moment. He keeps surprising us.
I didn't know they made a game of this. I love Dan game episodes, they're so relaxing.
We call the Danpisodes 😅
So wholesome too :,) I love hearing him happy and excited, it's so sweet
I believe This was one of the first PC movie tie in games
this was my first computer game when I was a kid, back in the days before intel
I just hear how hard Dan is smiling at the little items that he knows are there based solely on memories, like he's got little secrets
Gotta say as a Welsh person, I love that Danny actually knew how to pronounce a lot of those names and words, it's vanishingly rare to see someone foreign be able to pronounce them let alone even attempt to! So it's super lovely to see!
It helps that it's his favorite Disney movie, so he's heard the Welsh words pronounced.
Have you also seen not just the movie The Black Cauldron, but also the book series it's based on? The Chronicles of Prydain, inspired from Welsh folklore.
No joke, I'd listen to a video of Dan discussing his favorite fantasy book series.
Right there with ya. Big reader and I love when he goes off about books he has read.
Ditto
Dan would make a killing in Audiobooks. He has a great narration voice.
@@G4rm0nb0zi4 I do love his music.
@ianchandler270 Could make for a good podcast. Story time with Dan or somethin
Dan’s delivery of “It’s a magic *food* wallet bro.” genuinely killed me
Really makes me wish the Grumps would play a game like Grim Fandango or Monkey Island or one of the Telltale games with voices off while they try to do the voices themselves.
Dan & Arin respectively doing the voices of Sam & Max was glorious! Like, as a fan myself, I was legit impressed!
Take it easy
Grim Fandango would be soooo good its such a perfect game for them
@@jayqbird yeah it's exactly their brand of humor, and just such as excellent game overall (except for like two puzzles).
1:01:00 Oh my God... Arin really is the video game boy
"Gurgi has no friends" 💔that scene has stuck with me since I was a kid and is heartbreaking.
well neither do I, gurgi isn't special
@@modkip25 lmfaoo
I can't imagine anything else than Dan just pogging his mouth off when Arin one-shot the rope segment.
Dan telling Arin to "take it easy" so many times started to really make me laugh there at the end
Damn, Arin just crushing that rope climb.
The Video Game Boy does it again!!!
@@mattlane5632 Top 10 Gamer Moves of all Time
He's the video game boy who Wins!!
If Dan created his own side-channel where he only played old Sierra games or just games from his childhood, I have no doubt it would be a huge success. I know I'd watch every episode :)
That'd be amazing
Dan playing Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis would be a treat.
I doubt he has the time
Yes.
Freddy Pharkas Frontier Pharmacist!
These dives into older games that Dan has close connections to are always a treat! We get to hear Dan's stories of growing up and Arin get's to chime in with some deep messages! Great content boys!
Update: I'm 2 minutes in and all the boys have said is Dan says The Black Cauldron is his favorite too many times and Arin is gassy. So it's a DIFFERENT Game Grumps video lol
or completely dunk on Dan XD
@@judderbud You replied 2 hours earlier to your comment?
Considering how massively the movie flopped, I'm surprised there was a video game made from it at all. I personally love it though, and the same goes for this.
Agreed
It had so much potential.
@@waterbullstudios9195 If they actually gave one whit about the books the movie was based on, yeah. From what I understand, one of the main reasons the movie was disliked was because it was based on a book series (or the first two books, anyway) but was absolutely nothing like them at all. Not even the characters were portrayed the same, in looks or personality.
They were probably confident that it would succeed before it even took off, like Tak and the Power of Juju, and Legends of Chamberlain Heights.
@@marksamson4173 yup. I watched the movie first, as a teenager and didn't like it but my mom implored me try the series. I loved them, especially Taran Wanderer and after rewatching the movie, hated it a lot more
Dan's ability to remember the details of games from his childhood is basically a superpower in my eyes.
Dan turning non fast mode and IMMEDIATELY yeeting himself off the bridge to the castle was absolutely amazing
i love when dan shares the old games that he loves with us. makes me feel like a kid watching their dad play on the family computer
My dad named me after Taran-- is this weird, slightly embarrassed, slightly giddy feeling how the rest of you with normal names feel all the time when famous people say your names by accident, or is this extra special for me because it never happens?
Nah man, there's like, 10000000 Robs out there. It means nothing to hear celebs say my name. For those of us with common names, even when we're in the room half the time anyone using our name is referring to someone else lmao
As a Jeremiah I understand
As a Tristan I get Kristen, Christian, Trenton, Trishtan, so I get it. When someone says and remembers my name I get happy
I kind of get that feeling. I have a name that doesn’t appear that much in things so it’s always weird to hear people I watch on the internet say it.
If someone I regularly watch starts saying “Cody” out of nowhere, it always makes me feel a little embarrassed.
The even more impressive part of the graphics for these games is that they are not bitmaps, instead they are written in code where it basically does things like, draw line from one coord to another, then fill this area with a color. Once you know that they didn't open MSPAINT and just drew these, it is even more impressive the limitations they had. (they did this because of how much smaller it is to make the graphics this way)
Arin's low hanging branches (in combination with the extremely loudly honking gooses) were probably the contributing factor that made Arin unstable and soggy.
you've GOTTA understand how this comment is truly incomprehensible to someone who hasn't watched the video yet
@@buggibii Haven't gotten there yet, but you can get the intent through context.
@@buggibii I'm not very confused and I haven't watched the episode yet, but I think that's because I've already concluded that Arin is unstable and soggy.
i watched the episode and im.a bit confused (though i played totk, so yknow)
@@buggibii that is correct. I am thoroughly confused.
YOOOOO Arin had a "check this out" moment and he fucking killed it with the rope!
I'm Dan, I'm also Dan. Daaaaaaaan (and Arin)
Man, Dan's "Thanks for doing it, man." at the very end gave me so many feels. It was so heartfelt.
The Black Cauldron Books (The Chronicles of Prydain) by Lloyd Alexander are fantastic reads, I loved them! Read them as a youngling and now as an adult visit the audiobooks. Hope anyone who enjoyed the movie as a kid, and never knew there was so much more to the black cauldron world finds them. Thanks for playing this game, Grumps!
"The henchman doesn't see you and leaves."
Me: "WhY dOeSN't hE sEe thE leAVeS"
3 seconds later:
Arin: "WhY dOeSN't hE sEe thE leAVeS"
Kind of like the old AD&D games on the pc, "The monsters rejoice for the party is dead."
Party? What fucking party!?! We were getting our asses kicked, I didn't so no fucking cake! And why would they rejoice if the party is dying!?!
As a kid it took me a long time to find out the party was not an event.......
As a fellow animator, Arin being able to gauge how many frames he had to keep track of and then simply timing the rhythm makes alot of sense lol. When you animate frame-by-frame you tend to just sort of build a sense for how long a second or split second is 😅
If the grumps play EVERY Sierra game ever made, I will be here for it and eventually watching them on a loop.
If they do all the _Quest for Glory_ titles alone that's enough videos for an entire year lol
The best thing about Dan taking the wheel is it lets Arin be his unbridled, weird self.
It makes me feel warm and fuzzy to hear Dan gushing about his favorite game. No matter how simple it looks these days, some of my favorite Grumps episodes are hearing the boys doing something that makes them happy. Thanks for sharing, Dan! More like this!
No one can lie, we are all here to soak in the serotonin that is Dan joyously playing his favorite game 💙
Lloyd Alexander who wrote The Black Cauldron went to my high school. Which is in Upper Darby right outside West Philadelphia. It's actually part of a series and all of the books are great.
You said outside west philly, and the Fresh Prince theme just popped into my head.
- One of Dan’s favorite games ever
- Hour long video
I can tell
I was excited when I thought this would be another Dan solo adventure but I'm much more excited knowing Arin is there to watch and enjoy too. Space Quest 5 was an easy classic for that reason
Every time Arin does that voice it just reminds me of Doodle Date.
Yankee doodle datey
I feel bad cause i usually fall asleep to Dan's standalone episodes because his voice is so soothing, but i LOVE all the games he's introduced from his childhood. Its like taking a peek into what games were like for him growing up. Coming from someone who grew up in the 90s, its never what i expected to see but i feel like i missed out in a way on these classics.
Arin - “Eiddileg, no Ewe-ddileg.”
Dan - “Wow.” 😂
LOL THE E-W-E
Well done, dude!
this brings back memories of Dan playing Sierra games either by himself or with the other members a while ago, great memories indeed
Arin’s timing for the music playing right after he imitates it is the exact perfect comedic timing I have come to expect over the years from these lovely boys.
There's something really calming about Danny going through a game he knows back to front - it's a trip down memory lane, with most of the adventure game frustration missing due to experience. This was fun ^^
"It's a magic food wallet bro" immediately followed by Arin laughing.
Always gonna be a good time when its a childhood game for Dan or Arin.
dan game episodes are just so wholesome and lovely. i’m glad that the black cauldron is getting the love it deserves.
I would pay money to see the Grumps do a reaction series to various movies Arin hasn't seen, ESPECIALLY the Black Cauldron. 10MPH idea maybe where you guys share the highlights of the viewing and then discuss Arin's final thoughts?
Maybe a podcast-style thing on Patreon
I cannot express how much I love the Dan's games episodes. His enthusiasm and all the nostalgia brings me so much joy and takes me back to playing this revolutionary games.
I find myself wanting so badly for arin to do "ahhh the French". I don't even think he realizes he's doing that voice
renowned everywhere for their Frenchness...
It's his "I'm very sick so my voice is slurred" voice. He's not doing it on purpose, it's just how he sounds when under the weather.
It was the Spaniards that stole the idea for Inquisition from the French 300 years after they did. Oh No's. Ah French!
Whoa, Arins imitation of Dr Cecil H. H. Mills is very good!
They are related
Nah, Arin's impression doesn't sound anything like his uncle.
Arin wanted to be involved in the gameplay so much that he was willing to kill himself once for comedic effect before completely DEMOLISHING that last rope segment.
I always get immediately excited to see a Dan Sierra play through. Thank you guys for playing it!
I loved the Black cauldron as a kid. My mother let me watch it because she thought Disney movies wouldn't be so dark. It led me to being a fan of horror
Saaaaame 😆
I can be almost 100% sure that anything preceded by the words "Dan's favourite..." is going to bring me exactly the kind of nostalgia I crave. Thanks for this :)
I love these episodes where Danny gets to share his childhood favorites with us. It's just so wholesome.
The Chronicles of Prydain is an amazing book series, I also read it as a young adult. I remember it starting out quite lighthearted in most of the first few books, and gradually gets a bit darker and more serious.
Dan games always hit so hard. I love this man.
Time to strap in to 1 hour of Dan Grumps
Never long enough.
this comment thread is sexy
Watching Dan grumps stoned has me floating
Dan, thank you so much for sharing this game and story with us. It started my journey through the land of Prydain and I listened to every audio book. What an amazing series and I'll always be grateful that you turned me onto it.
Dan's favorites segments are what keeps me coming back to this channel.
I remember Danny talking about this from past space quest’s episodes , these long episodes always remind me so much of old steam train episodes. I still love to rewatch all the king quest space quest and leisure suit Larry 🥲 happy they are finally playing it.
So true, those Dan n Ross episodes hold a very special place in my heart
@@aniyilator same here, they always make me laugh on how easily Ross annoyed Danny and he would get so salty lol. Happy you agree 🤌
Arin NEEDS to see this movie
I always get a warm, fuzzy feeling when Dan gets super excited for a game. It just feels so pure and makes me smile.
Dan, my man, you guys have inspired me. I was visiting my dad out of state the other day and suggested we play the old Kings Quest games. We got through KQ1 by the end of my visit and it was such a good time. When I was little he would take my sister and I to the family computer and we'd play together. I barely knew how to spell we were so young, but that was our daddy time and it was easily the highlight of my childhood. I'm glad to know there are others who have that same nostalgia for these games.
Considering how massively the movie flopped, I'm surprised there was a video game made from it at all. But honestly, I think I prefer this to the film.
The movie had a ton of potential to be the greatest animated film of its time.
@@williswareinc if only Disney would remake this movie
Eh, Tom Cruise's The Mummy was a forgettable failure but the tie-in video game The Mummy Demastered is pretty great. :P
I loved the black cauldron, it's like the one Disney movie that isn't a musical and for the longest time was the one movie where romance wasn't the main plot point.
Agreed.
My god, thank you for that really strong dose of nostalgia. Remember watching this movie countless times when i was a kid.
“It gets late early around here.”

"They fly now?" is so eminently memeable.
these old adventure games like sierra and lucas arts from dans childhood are my favourite most consistently watched episodes of game grumps. thanks for another banger guys!
That gurgi impression fucking ruled dead on
I’m always saying “munchies and crunchies in here somewhere” when searching the pantry. I was happy to hear Dan’s impression as well.
it's always so endearing when we see a game Dan loves cuz he just gushes over it with so much positive energy.
Dan protecting Gurgi was adorable. He wasted no time standing up for him at the end.
Who would have thought that one of Disney's most underrated and forgotten films would also be one the most underrated and forgotten Sierra games?
Holy crap, I had no idea they actually made a games based on Disney’s The Black Cauldron. Was this the first Disney movie tie-in game? Either way, a movie like The Black Cauldron feels like a good fit for the King’s Quest model. A shame the movie flopped and barely anyone knows about it now.
Probably would have helped the film not flop if a bunch of different things didn't happen, like crazy editing and an environment the animators hated working in. Maybe most importantly though, it would have helped if they'd just stuck to the actual novel it's based on--which really isn't a very long book--or better yet, stuck to the plot of the book before that one, The Book of Three, which the movie stole elements from. Somehow somebody in charge decided to mix and combine elements of two different books, and completely butchered both.
@@swordrush well, to be fair, Disney rarely does straight adaptations of the books and stories their movies are based on. Still, the behind-the-scenes stuff for The Black Cauldron sound like a real shitshow, but then again, the company was kind of adrift aft the passing of Walt Disney, and they wouldn’t fully get their groove back until The Little Mermaid and the Disney Renaissance.
Apparently it is the first released tie-in to a major feature-lenght movie, as there were plans and prototypes for both a Snow White and Dumbo games for the Atari 2600, possibly scheduled to be tie-ins to the movie re-releases, and possibly scrapped after the ET game disaster (I guess, this is on wikipedia).
I love this era of game grumps so much. Arin's having whiskey, and Dan is reliving his childhood. Just. I love this for them
God I love when they do these longer plays of older games, especially when it's a Dan type of game. I hope they do more of this in general. I'd also really enjoy seeing them do another Sam & Max game, or some of the Monkey Island games. Even if it's Dan playing solo like they did with Gabriel Knight or some of the Space Quest games, it would be a treat for them to do more things like this.
Arin really saw Dan having fun playing point and click games and said "Why did nobody invite me? lets play one together man!"
When I saw the thumbnail I thought this was one of the Dan solo videos.
As much as I love their vibe, Im glad Arnold's also here for the ride.
16:28 "He's like an adorable little furry guy, my thirst is intense"
2 separate phrases that actually fit together.
Fun fact from someone born in 1980 who remembers all these games way too well: BLACK CAULDRON came after KING'S QUEST, but didn't have the type-y parser because it was specifically designed to be easier for children, like MIXED-UP MOTHER GOOSE. And now you know haha
Love Dan episodes they're so cozy and wholesome
This game was made shortly after Kings Quest 1.
ya know knowing that Danny has a deep love for the Black Caldron and the Last Unicorn really checks out they both have this unusual feel. That really fits his personality.
Black Cauldron was rated something other than G and didnt do well at the box office so it was one of the 2 abandoned disney films for years. It didnt come out on VHS until the late 90s due to that. It was kind of a big deal when it did come out to.
I kinda miss the vibe of Dan playing these early Sierra games on his own. It was a really different kind of experience than the other videos, same with Arin soloing Chrono Trigger. Mind you, I also get how much fun it is to share a childhood game with a friend, so I'm not complaining. Just missing the old way, is all.
I absolutely loved this game when I was a kid. It was this game that got me into Sierra games.
32:51 Good pun, Arin 😂
Ok im 6 and a half minutes in and I. Am. ASTONISHED! That Arin is not beatboxing to that funky goose bobbing its head and moonwalking up and down!
ASTONISHED I SAY!! 😂
I remember watching this as a kid and thinking it was the best movie ever. It's still one of my absolute favorite animated movies. Eilonwy was so intelligent and capable in the movie she pretty much saved herself. And the scene with Gurgi...I cry every time til this day. Never knew they made a game out of it. Really enjoyed this short & sweet, nostalgic playthrough!
You should read the books the movie was based on.
A game Dan likes? LET’S GOOOOO!!!!!
This is one of my favourite Disney films.
How did I not know it had a game?
Read the books! The film and game only cover the first two - there are three more after that. They're fantastic!
I think the best way to describe Gurgi is "Tiny Mustachioed Sasquatch."
Arin inadvertently referencing Brian Regan's "Dumb in School" "Many much moosen" bit with how it's Goose to Geese but not Moose to Meese
I am da groose woozord! Groose moogic poowerfool!
Arins voiceover of the fairy sounds like Hooty

Watching Dan play his favorite games is such a delight and makes me so happy! It's wonderful to hear him get so genuinely happy and getting to share it with Arin (and with us). There's a charm to these older games, and it's nice to be able to see them played (especially when they're either too difficult or inaccessible to most folks)
Dan's matter of fact "that was the goose" at 4:35 made me really happy
and again at 6:09
Dan, you're killing me over here with those comedy chops
I already know this is going to be one of my favorite bedtime autoplay videos 👍
Arin makes these games so much more fun. Not saying it's not fun with only Dan, but they work so well with narrative stories. Love the voices they contribute.
Absolutely love these adventure game playthroughs!! I hope they never end.
I love that the "They fly now!?" gag from the last Star Wars movie has become such a running gag with these two.
