I lived something like this for 11 months of 2017. Long distance relationship where we both loved each other. I was so eager to meet her, but she kept prolonging the meeting. Eventually it became clear she liked the distance, or at least felt more confident because of it. She had very low self esteem and thought she would mess everything up by meeting in person. I slowly had to learn that her fear of messing up or being awkward in person was large enough that she wouldn't ever meet me. At the same time I was learning that long distance just would never work for me, no matter what I tried. We both made our attempts to change the other person, or wait for change, and it only made it hurt worse. I eventually decided it was better for us to go our separate ways. I was, and to some degree still am, shocked. I'm over my feelings for her now but thinking back it still surprises me. I just didn't think it'd turn out that way. But yeah, I often come back to this song wishing she would've come right out and said we weren't going to meet. She probably didn't realize it herself for a long time, I get that. This song just summarizes my subconcious feelings for most of the last half of the relationship. I don't regret it. It was a fun one, but it's harder to have fun when you know something's not right.
