In antenatal and labor care, vitamin K and iron supplementation play vital roles in supporting both maternal and newborn health. Vitamin K is commonly administered to newborns shortly after birth to prevent bleeding disorders like Vitamin K Deficiency Bleeding (VKDB), as it is essential for blood clotting. Iron, meanwhile, is crucial for expecting mothers to prevent anemia, support fetal development, and reduce risks associated with blood loss during labor. Iron supplementation-available in oral or intravenous forms-ensures adequate hemoglobin production and oxygen transport, which are key during pregnancy and childbirth. Clinical guidelines recommend specific dosing and timing for both supplements to optimize safety and effectiveness, with careful monitoring for side effects. Together, vitamin K and iron help lay a foundation for healthy pregnancy outcomes, promoting both maternal and neonatal well-being.
