Tommy has a soft spot for Freddie. They were best friends growing up and Freddie took a bullet for him in the war saving Tommy's life. They might be fighting for different causes now but deep down they will always have eachothers back.
The flash backs he keeps having are back when he was in World War 1. A lot of the war was a stalemate, opposing trenches over no mans land. So there were teams of tunnellers, who would tunnel through to the enemy side. This is what Tommy, his brothers, Freddie went through together and he still has nightmares about it.
They would tunnel under the German trenches and fill it with explosives blowing up there trenches to create a opening for the troops above to over run them
This show is the best , no dragons, no visual effects but the story, the soundtrack, the characters and the acting are so so good, as good as the classic movies of gangsters, the godfather or Once upon a time in America, etc.
Pretty sure Grace has known Campbell since she was young, but she wasn’t his daughter. If she was, it would make it incredibly weird later in the season.
The guy who plays John Shelby was also in the black mirror episode "hang the dj", the one where the simulation selects who you're supposed to date and for how long. two very different roles!
as they said in the first episode, Campbel worked with Grace's father, who was a cop that was killed by the IRA. Given the close relationship between Cmpbel and her father, he feels he needs to protect her for her. All of this was said on every meeting Campbel and Grace had on the past 2 episodes, so no need to worry, this is NOT spoilers.
@@sebastianwiton2907 my place still stands that what links Grace and Campbell isn’t the fact that their blood relations it’s that Campbell and Grace’s dad knew each other.
If you want to really unsee Cillian Murphy as Scarecrow, watch "28 Days Later." It was mentioned last episode that her father was killed by the IRA. She's saying "I don't need you to be my dad." Not because he actually is, but because she doesn't need him to play that role. In World War 1, it was all "trench warfare." Each side digs trenches on both sides of a battlefield and then there's "no man's land" in between. Pop your head up, you get instantly shot by the other side. They called dying "going over the top." As in, charging across that gap and instantly getting mowed down by machine guns. Which was ordered again and again by generals on both sides. So basically both sides would dig in to their trenches, no battle line movement either way, but people die constantly. That was what WW1 was like. Just a meat grinder of death with no movement to show for it either way, for the whole war. As for air power, they had those little bi-planes shooting each other down left and right (think "the Red Baron"), but nobody ever got real air superiority over any battlefield itself. Airplanes were still a fairly new concept, and mostly countered each other. So instead they had people digging tunnels underneath, between trenches to the other side. The only problem is, people on the other side were also digging tunnels back. With all the claustrophobia and paranoia involved in that, especially if your tunnel hits theirs. If you break through to their side, suddenly you have to switch from construction mode to instant close-combat fighting to the death. That's where Tommy and his crew come from. While most who served in WW1 were sitting around waiting to die until they were ordered "over the top" to die, Tommy's boys were digging and hoping not to die, but ready to kill at any moment. "The Clap" (mainly chlamydia) is easily cured by antiobiotics these days. But no antibiotic even existed back then. Penicillin wouldn't be invented until 1928. So all VD's were incurable as far as anyone knew.
The Peaky Blinders were a real gang in Birmingham and the razor in the peak of the cap was the reason they were called Peaky Blinders. The person you thought was a Jamaican in episode one is actually Birmingham born and bred and has recently passed away, he was a famous poet. Some of the filming took place in a working museum called The Black Country Museum. Bit late to the party but love your reactions to a brilliant show.
Grace's father worked for Campbell and was killed by the IRA (mentioned in the gallery scene in episode 1). That's the family connection she meant. When she said she didn't need him to be her father she was speaking figuratively not literally.
Grace isn’t Campbells daughter remember in the episode where we find out she’s undercover and he tells her, her father would be proud of her. I’m pretty sure he was friends and/or a coworker of her dad
the editor doing the intro song every f word lmaoo just like the same thing they did in the boys when they would say soulja boy then the song would play
Grace is not the cops daughter. He was a good friend and colleague of her Father who used to be a cop. Her parents were murdered by the IRA so that why she list her cool and killed the IRA guy. It's still messed up because he has known her since shame wasxa child, so is kind of an uncle.

The 'Flander's Blues' is just the 1920's word for what we now understand as PTSD, basically for soldiers returning from the war in france.

Dragons and visual effects dont make a show bad
did you mean drag-ons?
@@CalpolMeister I don’t think they were saying that, I took it as how good CGI and fantastical elements aren’t always necessary to make a great show
British Dramas. We got loads of those. PB is like 20x more popular than the average one though.

Two other greats shows about gangs similar to this are "Gangs of London" and "Warrior".
I found you guys because of this series. You all make these reactions so much fun. Definitely subscribing.
the mace probably came back from WW1 and would have been used in trench raids or when fighting in the tunnels under the battlefield
