It was only a matter of time before The Monaghan Jig and Kilfenora were featured on our channel.
These classic Irish Jigs are are so well known and for good reason. We like to play them a little slower to bring out their full elegance.

So nice listening to you, guys, letting the melody breathe. What a change from the today fast-playing sessions which make all the tunes sound alike and boring.
Absolutely beautiful pace. We have a problem here in Ireland with musicians trying to race one another 😢
Same in England, when playing Irish tunes...
We have that problem in Canada sessions too ! It's always a sloppy, super fast race ,instead of a steady beautiful melodic, rhythmic pulse 😊. This is exactly how I like to play ! I love these guys !
These gorgeous jigs are often played quite fast in Ireland. I play whistle and banjo, and often have a hard time keeping up. Either way, Irish trad lights up my life. I love both of these jigs, and they were played beautifully and with great feeling. Thank you!
Same in France, which is boring.
The word “phrasing” comes to mind as you guys play these tunes. Very easy to listen to.
I know the second as The Old Favourite 🎶🎶
Just absolutely haunting and stunning playing by both of you …….loads of space for the melodies to breathe. Thank you .
Can’t tell you how much I love your playing. I’m a very active Irish fiddler who has found a new inspiration in you. And sebastion too, magic like Hayes and Cahill.
Thanks for listening!!
What a beautiful and harmonious playing. Thenk you so much for making this public.Your tunes make the days brighter.
I found the monaghan in a HO-Ro Ghalliedh book and it immediately reminded me of the slip jig The Butterfly. I'm sure the Kilefenora was known as The Sexy Jig? You play some lovely turns with fine timing)
I love it!! Great playing... such beauty, colour and elegance! I tip my hat! 👉🎩
I didn't know the Monaghan Jig - wonderful tune! Thanks.
masterful! I've only heard Kilfenora called The Old Favourite which is interesting! Thank you for the inspiration
Wm Monaghan
Brings back memories of my visits to Ireland
Beautiful rendering of these three jigs.
The Combo of Monaghan and Cilfenora is soooo nice! The Sound of the two of you is just great and you play it so inspiring! Thank you so much for sharing and just keep on with doing your wonderfull Irish music Sessions!
Many thanks Kath, glad to be playing these inspiring tunes.
I learnt to play The Monaghan Jig on the whistle about three weeks ago and, since listening to this rendition, I have done nothing but play along to your version. I have since listened to some more of your videos (+ become your subscriber) and have loved them all. However, this still remains my favourite. It is so inspiring and elevating. Also, I find it really endearing and an important part of the music how you communicate while playing. Congratulations to you both!
Many thanks Andy, great to have you here playing along with us. Keep it up!
I love this version. Sounds very close to the one in my banjo book by Oliver Waitze! So helpful for me to hear it played so nicely.
Wow this is a gorgeous rendition. This tempo really gave you both a chance to be wonderfully expressive.
Thanks zarthsan, yeah we love playing them at this tempo for that exact reason :)
@@thegoodtunes I just was listening through your playlists again and this song came back up and I had to stop and replay it another time. That little E-G-B-D progression in the Monaghan Jig is done so perfectly by Sebastian - and there is just something about how well it fits between the previous and next parts. So lovely.
This tune makes my day beautiful ❤️ happy, peaceful, awesome love your videos
ruclips.net/video/Zoib5q2kDB8/видео.html Monaghan's jig is in it and it sounds extremely magical I love it!!!
Thanks a Ton friends! I am learning the bodrahn and this is perfect training fer the jig!
Peace and Blessings
I love these tunes and they sound great at this pace. I know the second one as The Old Favorite. Maybe you could teach the Monaghan on your Patreon Site!
Yes that's a great idea! Kilfenora is definitely one of those tunes with many names, I guess depending on who you've learned it from / what regional tradition you're playing. There's just something great about taking the pace down a little.
@@thegoodtunes The Old Favourite is a different tune to what I know as the Kilfenora. Both good tunes, and i love your playing of The Monaghan. .
Absolutely marvellous interpretation of the Monaghan Jig. Not many fiddle interpretations on Spotify.
Lovely tunes, wonderful playing ! Wow !
Damn good dude!👍👍👌
Absolutely beautiful playing!
Cheers Martin!
Oooo, loving the B part, actually the whole first song. Such lovely playing, thank you and happy St. Pat's! I should add that the guitar adds a great dimension and is beautiful along with the fiddle. Thanks for inspiring me to learn the Monaghan!
Love the accompaniment, really sensitive/original.
Lovely. :)

I just started learning the whistle and bodrahn and your tunes are amazing! Please keep them coming.
How beautiful
Great interpretation!!!
Gorgeous
Veeery nice rendition !
Thanks!
Lovely tone of your fiddle ! I have a 260 yr old Johannes Guillami. Everyone who has played it has tried to buy it but only to stop me from torturing it :)
Savage stuff lads 👍🎸
Beautiful set of tunes, expertly played. I would love to play with a tone like you get outta that fiddle. Superb
Thank you David, much appreciated :)

The humble Jig.

Le bonheur d un tempo qui autorise le violon a chanter , a exprimer la beaute de cet air si souvent massacré sur ll autel de la vitesse devenue l alpha et l omega des sessions irlandaises
Sounds great! I did'nt know the second tune under this name but then I checked on The Session and I saw at least 4 tunes called Kilfenora.
I love The Orphan, McIntyre's Fancy and Sliabh Russell as slow speed jigs.
Nice tunes, we'll check 'em out!
Oooooh, so THIS is the song that plays for the the Celts in Civilization IV!
Thought this was ‘Miss Monaghan’s jig’ & got so confused how it founded so different 😅🙈 lovely playing!
Hehe well great you found a different Monaghan instead. I wonder which family member was THE?
❤
Superb ! Do you know the tune "The mystery inch" ? It's a modern jig that might sound very nice played by you two, just suggesting
We do! We'll stick it on the list for 2021 :)
@@thegoodtunes Nice!!!!
Hi, this is really lovely. Can I ask what tuning you are in please
Cheers! Standard tuning in this video. Capo on the 7th fret.
Aaww thank you so much for replying
I wish they had a Spotify profile 😔
Do you have sheet music for this?
We don't unfortunately, try thesession.org as they are a huge tune database 🎼
Nice playing as always! Speaking of jigs I would like to hear your version The Gold Ring (the old one) - the first tune in this set with a 9-year-old Mairead Hickey - fantastic tune.

Fantastic suggestion Poul Erik! Not a tune we know...yet 😉
