The mundane things of life - eg doing the dishes, cleaning the floor - are often seen as barriers and interruptions to spiritual practice. And they can easily become spiritual with a small attitude shift, converting them into karma yoga. It's certainly cheaper than flying to an ashram in India and being assigned the "seva" of doing the dishes or cleaning the floor! (Which could also be fun and rewarding).
