    I live right next to the fire. There was an over flow of water at Lake Casitas, they literally were releasing water due to over flow and houses in that area got flooded and damaged. They have been working on the project for a while. I don’t understand how they could’ve not used that water for situations like this. And btw Lake Casitas is by Ojai right next to Ventura probably like 11 ish miles away. I’m about to evacuate right now, the smoke is getting to bad where I’m at and I really can’t stand the smell. Praying for my coworkers and their homes. A lot of us had to leave early to evacuate

    When you lose power, the municipal water pumps go down (unless they have emergency back up generators) and then we as firefighters must rely upon the gravity fed storage tanks that you see upon hill sides as the back up water source. Those tanks only last so long and without power, they are not refilled after use.

    • @cdawg9149
      @cdawg9149 Час назад

      I believe Calif would need them to get a permit, do an environmental study to see if the sea weed and sand crabs would be affected, then determine how much to tax every gallon of water they use. The trucks would need to be all electric . So doesnt look good for sea water.

  • @IceMarsoc77
    @IceMarsoc77 6 часов назад +14

    yes they can use seawater... however the sea water is highly corrosive so unless they play to scrub clean the equipment every time they do a drop with sea water while the fires are going.... then its not a feasible for a long term solution.... if California leadership was not diverting clean water from our runoffs and spillways after storms then we would not be having this water shortage to begin with.

      @ I remember the Woolsey was burning Oak Park, and the Agoura / Kanan side and around 2 a.m. the embers crossed the 101 eventually burning to Malibu. If a few fire engines had parked at Chesbro at the 101 and Kanan to EXTINGUISH flying embers, staying on it until the fire reached the 101 as a break, perhaps half of Malibu wouldn’t have burned down.

    • @amynesbitt4667
      @amynesbitt4667 Час назад +2

      They didn't "let" the fire jump the 101. It happens all the time in high winds because the embers get blown over the freeway and then start a new fire where they land. They have about as much chance of preventing the fire from jumping the free during 60 mph winds as you do of catching every raindrop falling over your backyard with a paint bucket during a thunderstorm.

      No excuse all water districts that serve mountainous or hilly area know they need backup generators for fire protections or must have a dedicated backup source that can be gravity fed downhill!
      These are taxpayer funded government entities and not by local populous or through the rates!
      Water Utilities know that electricity will be shut off do the PSP alerts in advance from Santa Ana winds! Someone dropped the ball either the GM or the board members Tough questions must be asked and a report of what failed not by the district by an independent investigation the district will never take blame because they don't want their government insurance rates to go up!

    Any home in a high fire danger area should have 2 5K gallon tanks with a generator and a high output water pump hooked up to it. The right size fire hose and do drills every 6 months to be ready. The other mandatory issue is fuel around the house. Clear any brush or trees . No fuel no fire. But in a fire storm your gonna lose without the fire crews defending your structure.

      Im sure the insurance companies will be looking into the fire suppression system of that area. It may be a county owned fire system, an HOA or the city. If the system was installed correctly, meaning a state approved hydrant and water storage system, then the fault isnt theirs. It may be that the water just isnt available to fill the storage tanks to full levels for whatever reason.
