Awesome mate, that POC scene, sheeesh, hard act to follow. That orange goop you stepped in at the wall base is iron sulphate reacting with oxygen to form rusty mud, it's leeching from the iron pyrite in the granite. nasty stuff. T-rocks
Yeah buddy! I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. The history, the sights, how goods a cup of tea out in the woods. Yeah I remember as a curious kid learning the harsh truth about those infernal prickly pears!
Amazing indeed hello from remote rural off grid NSW just south of the border , may make the trip to have a look at this one indeed. I wonder why the petrol pump is there seems out of place unless their is homestead nearby maybe and they are using it for domestic water supply.
Just stumbled across this channel for the first time and I'm so glad I did. An awesome video and excellent information given about the history and facts throughout the journey. I'm so pleased you added the links especially regarding the Downs Explorer. It has been jotted down on my to do list. Thanks for sharing John. Cheers 😃🙏👍
Thanks for sending the link. My wife and I camped at Dalveen . -1 was the temp, but we did go to the Dalveen tunnel . On the walls to the entrance of the tunnel, you can still see the pick and tool marks. I'll be looking at the train ride of $110 return.
My dad grew up there & he tols me about that dam 30 odd years ago.. its quicker to go connley dam way & cut back up other way. check out the tank traps at beaudesert & boonah on the range from gg. cool share thanks subed
Cheers.... Yeah I know it would be quicker but I wanted to capture the side where the water flows into the reservoir. What are the tank traps you refer to?
Really makes you wonder, how and why. Such great expense for such a little amount of water. One of many strange structures attributed to early European settlement that I struggle to comprehend.
So im guessing the 2 different rail gauges are because stupidly Qld and NSW ran different gauge but why is there a single gauge section then dual then single again, great video btw thanks 👍
I bet you were one of those school kids who preferred to walk home from school in the rain, instead of catching the bus. Do you reckon I could get those concreters to do my driveway? Now I have to free up a weekend to check this out!
The bolt you painted for your friend; you should have left it as it was. It was galvanized steel so it will never rust. The tracks would rust before any of those bolts would
This dam is not on any named creek line. Its simply a small gully or two from the small mountain range behind it. And they don't really capture much water tbh.
Clunes vic where they filmed madmax a mate has a property and over 100,000,s years a small spring in the side of a hill cut a deep 60ft creek its awsome to have walked it to see all the diff cuts & colors of stone it wud cost a fortune to cut down that deep he paid a crew 20k to blow 1gold mine about 40ft deep so there! he found 12k gold in a rock like to know how its going today.
Nice one JB. A shame it's all hidden from the train line. I found it on Google maps before I saw you had a link in the description 🤦 Is a "Cup of Joe" an American saying?
Nope, experts believe this is the oldest documented concrete Arch dam, not just in Australia, but the world. You might be thinking another type of dam structure, but not arched, let alone fully unreinforced concrete.
Your Not the First Dude. Sorry to urst your Bubble.I just watched a You tube Video 2-3 days ago of a Guy Travelling around Exploring Abandoned Railways lines

I was thinking about going back to take a mud bath in the orange stuff for skin cleansing and rehydration... But you're making me second guess now. 🤔
love your stuff sir and love seeing history i never knew about..5 star
Yes, this one was quite special for me to find and film. I absolutely love Tunnels and this historic dam was a treasure also. 🙌

Yes, it def seemed out of place, but seemed like it hadn't been used for a long time too. Thanks for watching! :)
Fantastic -enjoyable and educational .love the history of australia
Wonderful experience and some good memories. Thank you for sharing.

@@offtrackxplorer No problem and I'll be checking out your other content as well.

That's definitely chilly! I'm looking forward to seeing the Dalveen tunnel next time I'm out there 👍👍
Good effort John. 👍 But I reckon I'll wait until they turn that one into a rail trail 😎
Absolutely - until then, the dam can remain hidden:) 👍👍
Good show mate very interesting
Hey, goodonya mate what an interesting trip into our country's history, please keep it up as this country has a lot more like this to be seen. Cheers
"Dam" that is cool lol. But in all seriousness, this is a great video 😊
Thank you for making this video.
I'd consider the $110 a bargain, to travel along that track on some saturday in the future.
Yes me too, I do enjoy riding on these old steam trains on different lines....👍👍
great video , i do like your HIVIS safety vest you are wearing whilst on the rail network line
Wow how cool is that train
Interesting and enjoyable, thank you.
Great video 📹 This would make a great rail trail.
Well done mate

! Dam Good Adventure. Cool Tunnel, Oh Just 1 Thang, Yowies Don't go Into Tunnel During The Day, I Wonder If That Dam Is Haunted?
It's absolutely haunted, no question about it😱
@@offtrackxplorer should do a night video there.

Nice work. You're right, I'd never heard of or seen 75 Mile dam. Did you pin it on Google Maps?
Yeah, all these locations now pinned on Google Maps with pics. 👍👍
@@offtrackxplorer I thought you must have pinned it because your pics were there too.
Great bit of history... back in the day they built things. Thanks very much: Cooroy QLD
Glad you enjoyed it

Well done John, pretty cool piece of Aussie engineering and history
Thanks Luke...was fun this one 🙌
Such a cool tunnel sound

Thanks... Yeah, not too sure on that one about the single and disk trail sections... Maybe someone knowledgeable on rail lines can chime in?
@@offtrackxplorer surely there's some train spotters reading toot toot 🤔
Two different gauges are because of a fear of invasion . Invaders would need to change trains to continue an invasion

This dam is not on any named creek line. Its simply a small gully or two from the small mountain range behind it. And they don't really capture much water tbh.
That’s 281 kms from Brisbane. I say walk on the track but don’t go to sleep on them just because it’s called a track bed.

Yeah, it's an old American soldier reference for coffee. No idea why I use it as a European... Better than cup of kaffee, I guess☕
I'm pretty sure there's an older one / dam in the highlands of Tasmania built by convicts in the mid 1800s

18 metres ?? You may be a bit optimistic.
I think you might be right 😂
