This video is some montjs old, so maybe this is not relevant anymore. But: Oh, yes, please do make an audiobook of The Warden! I love it and I think you read so well. It would be a delight to listen to it!
Excellent video Tristan. I would love a video on books that you were “scared” to read, but chose to anyways, and were delighted that you persevered. I wouldn’t have read Robinson Crusoe, excepting for the Patreon group. Also, I’m just finishing The Count of Monte Cristo. That is the book I’ve been avoiding and I am so overjoyed with the entire book, and glad I chose to read it. Perhaps you don’t have any books that you avoid, but if so I’d love to hear about them.
Hi Tristan. I’m new to your channel but very interested and also excited about the classics. I have hardly read any of them. I went to Barnes & Noble today and purchased seven classics, which I will dig into starting today. After listening to your wonderful talks on each book, I aspire to read and become as excited about these as you are. I’m a bit of a slow reader, because I really wanna know what’s going on in the story. It will take a while. Thank you!!!
Yes to video on Spy thrillers, loved The Warden last year, I'll read Barchester Towers this year, Trollope is the one that got away. Love Tender is the Night, Fitzgerald fan and love reading about the Murphys and the lost generation. The Ambler sounds familiar, but not sure if I ever read it, be sure to place John Buchan, Dashiell Hammet and John Le Carre on your list, I love reading thrillers.😊
Hi, Tristan! I'm a big fan of Anthony Trollope. I'm three books into the Barsetshire series, and four into the Palliser series. I liked the way you described Trollope's work with characters. On Fitzgerald, I've read This Side of Paradise and Gatsby, and The Pat Hobby Stories, and liked them all. I need to get to his other novels, including Tender is the Night, which I will move up my ever-evolving list based on your report. I was excited to see you include Eric Ambler on your list of classics. He got on my radar because of all of the classic movies based on his books, including Background to Danger, which was the American title for Uncommon Danger. Anyway, I've subscribed, and I'm looking forward to looking back through your content.
You've caught my attention with The Warden. I'm glad you're covering Fitzgerald, such a troubled soul, but such a great writer...when his writing is great.
The Warden is certainly not Trollopes best, but it is an easy way to meet him. It has the serene rustle of an early summer walk beneath an avenue of beech trees.
@@tristanandtheclassics6538 I've just finished An Eye For An Eye, and loved that one - the first of his that I've tried. How would you compare The Warden to that?
My favourite of part of 'The Warden' was the criticism of the press and of Mr Popular Sentiment, that's very funny. 'Tender is the Night' is one of my favourite books.
I just finished Tender is the Night a few days ago. I really loved it and was surprised by its emotional subtly and nuance. You mentioned the use of flashbacks in your version. I must have read the other version that is told in chronological order, which was published posthumously. It would be interesting to see the difference and how they compare.
I have a love hate relationship with Fitzgerald. He's not my favorite author but I do occasionally feel the need to read him . My favorite work of his is The Beautiful and Damned. I own a very nice edition of The Great Gatsby, but I have not re read that in years and don't think I will do any time soon. Robinson Crusoe - all I can think of is The Moonstone whenever I see this book :) . I enjoyed Crusoe much more than I thought I would. I had read it right before I read The Moonstone because I knew it was referenced heavily in that book. It made for a great reading experience for both books. The Warden is one of my favorite Trollope books ! It doesn't get enough love. Lots of folks talk about the remainder of the series , but The Warden has my heart. Yes to the audio book !!!
Robinson Crusoe was one of the best books i read...and i am glad i bought a 1886 copy in France ( english version) which is twice as long haha...the copy you have is very abridged
Excellent review as always. Robinson crusoe is a novel I have always to read. After your analysis of the book its on my must read list. Thanks very much Tristan 😊
I'm new to classics and just tried to read The House Of The Seven Gables. Chapter one was was all description except for about three sentences. I know it was setting the scene, but it was too much. Chapter two wasn't much better. I put the book away with no intentions of finishing it. It also seems to be dark and depressing.
I wish I was a Trollope fan, I have read the Warden and four or five others of his and haven’t gotten on with any of them. Also not a huge fan of Fitzgerald. I do like Robinson Crusoe, & Moll Flanders, though I found both difficult to get through. I like RC more than MF by quite a lot.
I really liked The Warden and Barchester Towers and now I'm up to Framley Parsonage. I have fun reading small town church politics. I thought about reading Robinson Crusoe. I have read Tender is the Night, but sadly I lost interest Fitzgerald. I thought he was going to be a favorite I think I read too much of him after a while.
Yes, please do an audiobook!
Yes you should do an audiobook on the Warden. I would look forward to it.
Good to know that there would be some interest.😀👍
@@tristanandtheclassics6538 Ooh, yes please!!! That's two of us, at least!

👍on the thrillers also.
Starting Robinson Crusoe now. Been on my shelf for years. Thank you for the motivation!
Good heavens! Never under estimate Mrs Grantley's subtle influence over Dr Grantley. And who can't be moved by Mr Harding playing his air cello....
I don’t think Dr Grantley would refer to his wife as subtle 😂
Uncommon danger sounds really good! I vote yes to the 20th century thriller writers please Tristan!
OK Danielle, I appreciate your enthusiasm for the thriller video. 😀❤️
You said William Defoe at 9:10 🌴😉
Have you ever read Marie Corelli - the other author from Stratford-upon-Avon?
I was kind of on the fence about reading The Warden. HOWEVER, if you did an audiobook I would def listen. Looking forward to it!

Yes please do a comparison video of the thrillers/suspense.
Yes would love a video on mysteries/thrillers
Duly noted, Toni. 😀
It’s my favorite genre! I would love to get some classic recommendations in addition to Collins, Poe and Doyle.
Yes, on the audio book …the Warden.

6:45 this is exactly what im looking for- an intoxicating read
Fitzgerald is a superb writer. Please tell me your experience of the book when you are finished.
I have not heard of Ambler, but that book sounds pretty dang good. Thank you

Would enjoy the audiobook very much. Thanks for sharing these recommendations as I have not read any of them. Read WOMAN IN WHITE many years ago.
Woman in White is spectacular. I wonder how it will affect you to read ot again after some time has passed.😀
Yes I've read The Warden! I will say I didn't love it but liked it. And I've read The Belton Estate and ❤❤❤❤ it!!
The Warden is certainly not Trollopes best, but it is an easy way to meet him. It has the serene rustle of an early summer walk beneath an avenue of beech trees.

Trollope visited Australia twice, one of his sons settled here. He wrote about it, must try and get his writings.

If you haven't, try reading Defoe's Journal of the Plague Year. Read it probably 50 years ago.
I've read Robinson Crusoe twice but I think the editions I read were abridged. I might have to try a better copy.

Two Chapters? You really haven't given it a chance then, have you.

Just a shoutout to Trollope for his wonderful women characters. They are believable and diverse and often very funny.
and the reason i read Robinson Crusoe was only because the butler Betteredge in Moonstone swore by that book..was more important than the bible
