I was on a jury earlier this year where a phone went off right in the middle of a crucial cross-examination, and IT WAS THE JUDGE'S PHONE! He quietly apologized, but fell short of throwing himself in jail for 48 hours. (How forgiving of him.) 🙄🙄🙄

got an invitation to traffic court.
little po-dunk county where nobody walks without paying up.
got to the courthouse wearing shorts. 90*+ outside.
lobby sign says " no hats - no shorts - no flip flops - no tanks or halter tops - shirt tails tucked in - cell phones silenced "
there's no time to go home or change.
called to the bench. judge says " the sign outside says ....................... "
i said " i came here from work unaware of a dress code. i saw the sign. tucked in my shirt and silenced my cell phone. it's what i could do with what i have ".
the judge asked the cop " was this man respectful and cooperative during the traffic stop " ?
the cop said " yes he was ".
the judge said " thank you for showing some respect for our court - have a nice day "
    no conviction - no fine.

I wear an insulin pump, it has an alarm that goes off if my sugar is too high, too low or insulin vial needs replacing. I had hell going through the metal detector, because they told me I could not have it, I told them too bad, it stays on, I got a clearance, and went to to the courtroom. I did inform the bailiff because they had that policy on cell phones, he asked if I could turn it off, I said no, because it is a life saving device it stays on,. He informed the judge and pointed me out and he called me forward and told me that it is a distraction to the court, Don't care, it is considered a life saving device, and it stays on. I don't care about your policies because it does not over rule my right to live. I asked him if he would ask a person with a pacemaker who has and alarm that goes off on his phone if he wants them to turn them off as well? Long story short, there was nothing the Judge could do about it, without placing my life in jeopardy, and facing a huge lawsuit. Yes, it did go off, because my sugar dropped below, 88. I got up, walked out and took care of business. But no, Judges are not Gods, it is not their courtrooms. Those courthouses are the People's courts, the Judges may think they are special, but they are more arrogant assholes than anything else.

    • @revolution3395
      @revolution3395 3 года назад +3

For sure they're not gods and often need to be reminded of this fact. It's because they wear black and are "mourning the dead" (persons - corporations, imaginary entities) that they're not gods, for one. But most of them aren't used to dealing with "life" they're so disconnected, and there's always a certain amount of decorum that's required. Maybe saying: " _If this man is to not wear his pacemaker or other lifesaving device, then this man cannot be tried._ " would suffice.

The judicial branch is in desperate need of reform. The US system is directly linked to the British system which is directly linked to an ABSOLUTE monarchy (dictatorship). When a kingdom grows too large for a King/Queen to directly administer "justice" then a representative is appointed to serve in actual place of the actual monarch. When you understand this then all of this "makes sense" but you also realize that it is HIGHLY undemocratic, unjust, and set up for potential abuse by highly flawed human beings. The court systems generally preserve power and side with the powerful in societies and when David wins against Goliath that is the exception and not the rule. For every wise Solomon there is a Donald Trump....

I was raised in the 60's and my parent's made sure to teach my brother and me those "old school" manners. It was also a time that telephones hung on the kitchen wall - when you left the house you left "connectivity" behind. I STILL leave my cell phone sitting on the kitchen table. If you want to talk to me ... well you just have to wait until I can sit down and have a cup of coffee while we talk. Aside from all those gestures of respect and politeness that my father taught me, I was also in the U.S. Navy where all of those gestures were reinforced, and *enforced* . Heaven help the sailor that walked on to the mess deck with his "cover" still on his head. He was lucky if it didn't end up someplace where the sun don't shine. Being polite and showing manners takes effort and an awareness of your surroundings and the people around you. Leaving those gestures behind doesn't come from a "modern" attitude, but comes from a selfish, or at best, a lazy attitude. Maybe I'm just an old "boomer" and maybe all those little quirky gestures, like taking off one's hat when indoors are "old fashioned" ... or maybe some of our social problems today are rooted in the loss of those simple gestures of respect and politeness and awareness of the people around us.

Diabetics sometimes use blood glucose monitors that tell the cell phone to alert the user about low or high blood sugar levels. Turning off the phone makes the user blind. In NC, many senior judges have ordered that no phones, cameras or electronic recording device are permitted within the courthouse. This in smaller counties where all the county offices might be in the same building--- including Register of Deeds, Clerk of Court where public records are kept. Metal detectors and wands are used at the entrance. In some of these courthouses, one must remove belts and shoes for inspection. Should we trust the government that does not trust us?

I was pleading my own traffic ticket in court where there was a sign outside the courtroom that said “No cell phones allowed in the courtroom”. Well someone’s cell phone went off and the Judge stopped the proceedings to inquire whose cell phone went off. After demanding to know several times, some lady finally admitted her wrong doing. The Judge then went on a tyrant for 20 minutes (I kid you not) about how cell phones interrupt the court and waste every ones’ time. I thought to myself, “Judge, if you are so concerned over a cell phone wasting time, why are you wasting 20 minutes lecturing the rest of us who can read and obey signs? Just throw the offender out of court or hold them in contempt and get on with your job.” My ticket was dismissed but I still had to pay $120 for court costs. WTF! I now I avoid that town like the plague.

Hey Steve, as an I.T. person that focuses in the black ops of tech. if the court wanted to they could do wireless black boxes that block ANY AND ALL frequency's The reason they SHOULD.. is if someone wanted to leave a electronic "weapon" in the court.. the black box would protect everyone from the weapons "activation". I can tell you in some HIGH LEVEL buildings (nsa cia) they do this exact thing on certain restricted levels. so even if someone smuggles something in they cant activate it with a frequency.

TK UA if it’s Android they can remote a text message to it and power it off. If the gov wanted to they could tell phone companies that when x signal is triggered to power down and all phones would obey.. but they don’t want to cause a issue with the public so they ask you to. But all phones have gps and just like they can go into car mode when movement is detected they could be commanded to power down at a location.

Then someone called me. The judge wad not happy and I fully understand why. Fortunately after a brief explanation and a long apology about why it happened I won the case. It really comes down to common courtesy. Imagine before cell phones if someone came into the court room every few minutes hollering that someone had a phone call. People think they are so important that they NEED to have a phone. I remember having to hitch hike to a pay phone to make a call. We still got bussines done just fine.
