I've been reading the comments and I feel like I probably worded what I was trying to say wrong. I'm not necessarily saying that the air defense is useless because it is weak, since it is one of the strongest things against air troops, but i'm saying it's useless because you can just lightning spell all 4 of them, meaning they can't function and are therefore "useless" in the battle. Plus, the lava hounds can also distract them long enough for them to be unable to do much damage to the balloons, which once again makes them almost "useless" in that situation. Sorry for any confusion, just thought I'd clear that up.
The fact that you need to lightning them all for many air attacks proves how useful they are. Those are valuable spell slots you need to invest in destroying them.
So in other words, they use up attackers spells which keeps other defences safe which if used properly can ruin the attack... In my view that already made them useful. If attacker starts zapping out infernoes, would you call them useless?

Just because people destroy them using lightning spells doesn’t make them useless in those levels, infact it’s more useful, the spells used on the air defenses can’t be used on the other air targeting defenses, if you didn’t have air defenses then those buildings that target both become the new target of the spells or they start using more rage spells or something
Picking off the air defenses though reduces enemy firepower by a good extent. In TH12, destroying all 4 air defenses and spamming edrags with a rage gem warden can guarantee stars.
so you did admit that the air defence is really strong. if your opponent has to spend all his spell slots to destroy your air defence isnt that a just because they are so strong? dealing 500 dmg to air troops wile getting +40 or +60 damage per upgrade is a roi that almost no other tower offers espeacially when compared to stuff like the archer towers or teslas which can only gain +10 damage per upgrade. theres a big reason why most people focus on their air defences before upgrading stuff like mortars, canons, archer towers or teslas. honestly I think you kinda missed the mark on this one even tho a lot of your early game complaints ring true
i see them like glass cannons they are really powerful if you forget to kill them, but they go down so easily that it’s not really a big deal. like you either choose to dump your spells into eagle artillery or inferno towers, or you dump spells into air defense. they are weak because of opportunity cost.

It would be unbalnced. The game already have scatter shot and mutli target inferno. 2 scatterband 3 multi is too much for balloons. On th 15 they can be raged by rage spell. So if the air defense got buffed to do AOE damage, it's too much noob
No clue what this guys talking about, air defenses do 500 damage per second, they are definitely very good. The problem at hand is that instead of a diverse ways of defense for ground (such as bombs towers, cannons, and mortars), they needed to make up for the fact that those didn’t target air, so they have one defense which does a ton of damage to balance it out, which can be considered poor design at worst. Either way though, it works out just fine, and this video is sorta pointless.
They’re so good that you have to spend the first part of your attack full focusing them, because if you don’t, you’re guaranteed to fail. The point in this video is nonexistent

Am at town hall nine and I get sweeped by all types of attacks and my air stuff does nothing to them lava hounds cover and the balloons kill everything else
Town hall 10 and up, the inferno tower makes you choose between wanting to freeze spell inferno towers and going for a ground defense or taking down 3 air defenses with 11 lightning spells but praying the inferno towers don’t shred your dragons.
People zapping out all 4 air defenses can actually be a good thing, as backwards as it sounds. The 2 main reasons for it is the obvious “attacker has no more spells after that” which means that the remaining scattershots, inferno towers, air xbows and the eagle all have free real estate to dumpster your army. The other reason is because lava hounds will just move from defense to defense, moving with the balloons or dragons instead of flying ahead to protect them like they’re supposed to. This results in air traps being far more effective since the chances of them being tripped by a lava hound is significantly lower since the hound is just moving inside the pack instead of ahead of it, thus not protecting shit

I mean, it's true... yes they are extremely strong, that's why people destroy them with lightning spells. But because this is such a common strategy, your air defences never really get to shine, in turn becoming "useless" In other words, them being so powerful that they are just destroyed right at the start of the game, makes them useless. Air defense is not useless in the way that attackers don't need to pay attention to it and can ignore it, and they are »powerful« in the way tbat they kinda force most players to use all lightning spells. However, that's simultaneously the problem... then their only use is being spell-bait in most attacks, and then they go swarming your base with air troops which your air defenses would obviously be very helpful against. I haven't really played CoC anymore in many years, only when I was quite young, and the game has changed a LOT since then of course. However, it does not feel really motivating to me to upgrade air defenses only for them to act as lightning spell-hotspots, just like how upgrading walls at some point is only for dumping recources if root riders can just stroll through them like shit xD
they overbuffed air attacks so much because of zap. My base still get 3 starred even with 4 maxed air defense and spams dragon in one place with no funneling in TH9-10. In Th8 they have it even more rough, leaving only 1 air defense. Good thing it gotten so much better over time
In my opinion, the lightning spell argument isn’t really fair since it costs attackers all but one or two spells depending on their town hall. If the defenses are spread out, no spell support can make destroying the rest of the base very difficult
I think it would be nice if the Air Defense got the same mechanic as the Multi-Archer tower where it can be multi target but can be single target with all the damage combined.
Geared up air defense with that mechanic sounds nice tbh, i have no idea why air defense is the only basic defense that doesn't receive geared up option yet
I think increasing the hp and range of the air defense would make sense, doesnt need more damage it just needs to be more expensive to lightning it and a bit more range would help for obvious reasons.
(from the perspective of a current th10 player, upper town halls can give a different perspective than mine). down here the problem with the air defense is that they're just too powerful of a defense that they have to be taken out first in air attacks and this results in them becoming a priority in all air-based attacks. For dragons this often means enough zaps to take out 3 air defenses max then sending all of your troops towards the last one and taking it out first. rendering them obsolete besides taking up spell space for the rest of the attack . for blizzard/electrone lalo the strategy revolves around taking out at least 1 air defense minimum along cc and queen; while heroes attempt to take out another air defense. Failing to take out 2 air defenses minimum with the combination of heroes + blimp can result in failure as you have to use one hound alongside your blimp for reliable blimp results, leaving you only with 2 Air defenses remaining and 2 lava hounds. Air defenses are always a priority when attacking with air troops which is why they'll always seem to have the least impact in a battle in comparison to air sweepers, enemy eagle, inferno towers, and x bows which are taken out later in these attacks. Of course the strength of any defense is only as strong as the skill of the attacker, if you're skilled it doesn't matter if the enemy base is maxxed or if they have strong cc and high level heroes. 3 star capable players will always find a way to 3 star. In this game your base is at the mercy of the enemy's skill. PS and slightly unrelated but to help vs queen walks and queencharges: while queen charges arent't inherently an air attack the air defense isn't entirely useless vs queen charges when properly placed in a base. they should always be 5 tiles away from the queen so that the air defenses can snipe enemy healers while the queen can't reach them; having air defenses in adjacent compartments can help vs queen charges since the enemy will often only bring enough wallbreakers to only open one or 2 compartments exposing only one air defense while the other adjacent one can fire free attacks vs the enemy healers.
I don't think ADs are useless at all. They have enough power that they must have and that keeps a balance between attacks and defences. Increasing the ADs power will till the balance of power towards defences. I've been using lava loon since th9 and now I'm in th12. And my other rushed base is th14 and I use lava loon in that one as well.
if people are choosing to zap all of the air defenses, doesn't that make them strong? if you choose to zap all of the air defenses with 12 zaps, you now have to do the rest of your attack with basically no spells.
they are not bad at all. Firstly, e drags are really base dependent, with a decent base you will evade any attempts of 3 starring from enemy e drag attacks. Wondering why pros dont spam e drags? They suck against actual good bases. Secondly, air defenses play a role not also in dealing damage but LURING the lava hounds to an no-so-great spot. This means that if you want to do a blizzard for example, and the air defenses are away from the th, you will not be able to get your blimp in the th, which means that your heroes have to take it (from a lalo perspective) since ballons are really vulnerable to the th defense. Finally, if, as you say, just use all your spells to blast through the AD's you will have to do an attack with little to no spells, which means that your troops become really vulnerable to heavier defenses like infernos, scatters etc... So i dont see where they are weak, they are certainly helpfull since you need to work around them or use tons of spells for them. (also using zaps for AD's doesnt work on a high level thats why you dont see anyone doing it in tournaments).
also another note, in higher th your AD's start to 2 shot ballons. This shows how the damage ratio that they receive is really good compared to what ballons get.

WAIT SINCE WHEN THEY ARE USELESS???? they are so important that some strategies at lower town halls completely relies on pre-emptively destroy all them with lightning 😮. If they were so "useless" like archer towers no one would use lightning spell on them
one more thing is, at around th 10 or 11 I forgot, basically when you can use a max earthquake spell, instead of 3 zap per AD, you can use 2 zap and an earthquake and produce the same result, heck if they're inside the earthquake range, you can took out 2 AD with just 5 spell slot rather than 6, saving the other 5 for either full zaps again or something like rage or freeze to help with tactical situation
Since hero equipment update, I have started using dragons again . I use giant arrow to destroy 2 air defence and remaining with lightning, and boom you will win
Air defenses are not useless, people using all their spells to destroy only 4 buildings instead of having rages or freezing spells means they are so valuable the attacker finds it worth it to attack without spells just to remove them from the equation
I actually dont mind E-Dragons. I don't find them overpowered like people say it is, the reason why is because most E-Drags attacks ive seen always gets 1 star and 2 stars, especially in home base and the 3 star attacks is because the base they're attacking is either rushed or a th lower than them. The only thing i hate about E-Drags is my clanmates using it on war and getting the most painful looking 2 stars ive ever seen
The air defense is still one of the strongest defenses against air attacks... Hell people prioritize the air defenses to take out with either spells or heroes before starting the air attack
The only use for air defenses at this point is to use their spells up so your key defenses aren't hit instead. That's weird though cause people lightning the defense but it's considered useless. If it's actually useless than you can ignore it. They do a considerable amount of damage so they aren't really as useless as you suggest. That'd be like saying a cat is weak because a dog can kill it easily. They're just facing an overpowered strategy.
TBH, Air defense is the second highest DPS building in home village the first being the single Inferno Tower. Having 600 DPS on max level with high range is what makes this building a threat to most air units and its also vulnerable by few lightning spells and swarms due to its low HP. I could say that Air defense is useful and important since it is OP on lower town halls.
The air defence is top 5 ish best defences as it deals insane damage to air troops, the only good point there was is that there is lava hounds which are built for air defences and this is needed to stop the air defences from being overly powerful and dominant
I think they should give air defense splash since it is a firework after all, doesnt need to be something big, maybe does like a quarter of the normal damage it does to troops that get hit by it, so like if it does 100 dmg it would deal 25 to splashed troops and 100 to the troop its targetting if that makes sense
@@puffrfisherLook at the top level play balloons die in 2 shot from ad and get oneshoted by raged scatter. Balloon do the most damage with reason becuse they are insanely skill dependent troop.
after 7 years of not playing the game, ive rushed my townhall to lvl 13, the first defence ive upgraded to max were the 4 air defences, ive never been 3 starred by dragons/edrags since.
I'm TH14, I use e-drags, it's pretty op. I average on 2* 85%. I use 9 e-drags, 6 balloons and 11 bat spells, in CC I have battle drill, super dragon, balloon, rage and freeze spell. I use bat spells to destroy artilerry (there must be no multi targer infernos, scattershots or wizard towers in reach, then I place drill and champion together, ballons, e-drags and all three heroes in one line or around one corner. I use freeze for annoying defences or TH, rage to increase damage and warden to use make them imortal while destroing TH.
Normally I agree with your videos or at least find them informative. But I disagree with this one. I've had many air attacks destroyed because I didn't target air defenses. I've also won multiple defenses because the attacker ignores or fails to funnel towards the air defense. Actually I end up using ground army's because I don't want to deal with it at all.
imo air defenses are pretty balanced, of course signature defenses are stronger than it because signature defenses are key defenses while air defenses are stronger cannons for air troops. plus if you ignore them it becomes a huge problem so it doesn't need a damage buff. air defenses aren't meant to be special it meant to be a way to defend against air troops like cannons

i bloody agree seriously i always max out my air defence to the highest possible for my hall but EVERYTIME even against a STUPID DRAGON and a bunch of air balloons it either doesnt do enough damage or simply just sucks since it gets rushed to easily seriously it should have a hard buff on its hp and minor buff on its damage and honestly it shoots fireworks so it should deal splash damage to encourage players to not cram 723847618726498176 air balloons in one place this literally forces me to cram my air bombs and air mines near the air defences or outside the base in hopes itll hit something and slow down a rushed air assault and also now i got funni skeleton traps i switch most to anti air mode
air defence isnt useless its an important defence if can also take down queen charge attacks and electro dragons which are common attacks in th 11, 12 and 13
Air defenses on higher TH are like cannons or archer towers and function as a frontier defenses. They're here to make the attack difficult to go to the center.
This video is just wrong. As a dedicated Disfunctional fan, I must rectify some of his mistakes. I am sorry if this sounds too harsh. The fact that you have to use all of your spell slots to take them down makes them useful. You can also take down the Eagle Artillery and the Monolith with lightning spell. Does that make them useless? No! They are quite useful. And the fact that there is a specific troop (lava hound) which counters the air defense makes them even more special! There is also the headhunter which targets heroes. Does that make heros useless? No! (upgrading heroes is useless, heroes themselves are a core part of an attack) If there is any circumstance where any air defenses are left, they are an absolute nightmare! In th 4, that is more of a game balancing issue than an air defense issue. In th7, well dragons are just too OP. You can't really stop them at all. Every defense struggles to defend them. You wouldn't really call the archer towers "useless" if they can't stop dragons. The air sweepers themselves are not OP, the air sweepers paired with other defenses, especially the air defense is OP. What is the air sweeper gonna do on its own? Push the troops? That would at max cause a time fail. I completely disagree with you at the end. The air defense are absolutely the best against air troops. You HAVE to have air defenses at max level to have a shot at defending your base. You at least have a chance of defending if they are maxed. You have 0% chance of defending if they are low level. In conclusion, the air defenses are a core part of the base, just like the cannons, archer towers, wizard towers, x-bows, inferno towers, eagle artillery, scattershots and monolith.

Town hall 10 and up, the inferno tower makes you choose between wanting to freeze spell inferno towers and going for a ground defense or taking down 3 air defenses with 11 lightning spells but praying the inferno towers don’t shred your dragons.
People zapping out all 4 air defenses can actually be a good thing, as backwards as it sounds. The 2 main reasons for it is the obvious “attacker has no more spells after that” which means that the remaining scattershots, inferno towers, air xbows and the eagle all have free real estate to dumpster your army. The other reason is because lava hounds will just move from defense to defense, moving with the balloons or dragons instead of flying ahead to protect them like they’re supposed to. This results in air traps being far more effective since the chances of them being tripped by a lava hound is significantly lower since the hound is just moving inside the pack instead of ahead of it, thus not protecting shit

But because this is such a common strategy, your air defences never really get to shine, in turn becoming "useless"

Air defense is not useless in the way that attackers don't need to pay attention to it and can ignore it, and they are »powerful« in the way tbat they kinda force most players to use all lightning spells.
However, that's simultaneously the problem... then their only use is being spell-bait in most attacks, and then they go swarming your base with air troops which your air defenses would obviously be very helpful against.
I haven't really played CoC anymore in many years, only when I was quite young, and the game has changed a LOT since then of course.
However, it does not feel really motivating to me to upgrade air defenses only for them to act as lightning spell-hotspots, just like how upgrading walls at some point is only for dumping recources if root riders can just stroll through them like shit xD

they overbuffed air attacks so much because of zap. My base still get 3 starred even with 4 maxed air defense and spams dragon in one place with no funneling in TH9-10. In Th8 they have it even more rough, leaving only 1 air defense. Good thing it gotten so much better over time
In my opinion, the lightning spell argument isn’t really fair since it costs attackers all but one or two spells depending on their town hall. If the defenses are spread out, no spell support can make destroying the rest of the base very difficult
A firecracker gear-up for one of your air defences could also help, assuming it doesn’t get lightning-spelled.
I think it would be nice if the Air Defense got the same mechanic as the Multi-Archer tower where it can be multi target but can be single target with all the damage combined.

I think increasing the hp and range of the air defense would make sense, doesnt need more damage it just needs to be more expensive to lightning it and a bit more range would help for obvious reasons.
(from the perspective of a current th10 player, upper town halls can give a different perspective than mine). down here the problem with the air defense is that they're just too powerful of a defense that they have to be taken out first in air attacks and this results in them becoming a priority in all air-based attacks.
For dragons this often means enough zaps to take out 3 air defenses max then sending all of your troops towards the last one and taking it out first. rendering them obsolete besides taking up spell space for the rest of the attack . for blizzard/electrone lalo the strategy revolves around taking out at least 1 air defense minimum along cc and queen; while heroes attempt to take out another air defense. Failing to take out 2 air defenses minimum with the combination of heroes + blimp can result in failure as you have to use one hound alongside your blimp for reliable blimp results, leaving you only with 2 Air defenses remaining and 2 lava hounds.
Air defenses are always a priority when attacking with air troops which is why they'll always seem to have the least impact in a battle in comparison to air sweepers, enemy eagle, inferno towers, and x bows which are taken out later in these attacks.
Of course the strength of any defense is only as strong as the skill of the attacker, if you're skilled it doesn't matter if the enemy base is maxxed or if they have strong cc and high level heroes. 3 star capable players will always find a way to 3 star. In this game your base is at the mercy of the enemy's skill.
PS and slightly unrelated but to help vs queen walks and queencharges: while queen charges arent't inherently an air attack the air defense isn't entirely useless vs queen charges when properly placed in a base. they should always be 5 tiles away from the queen so that the air defenses can snipe enemy healers while the queen can't reach them; having air defenses in adjacent compartments can help vs queen charges since the enemy will often only bring enough wallbreakers to only open one or 2 compartments exposing only one air defense while the other adjacent one can fire free attacks vs the enemy healers.
I don't think ADs are useless at all. They have enough power that they must have and that keeps a balance between attacks and defences. Increasing the ADs power will till the balance of power towards defences. I've been using lava loon since th9 and now I'm in th12. And my other rushed base is th14 and I use lava loon in that one as well.
If you can't reach to them they are so strong you have to take air defence or other defence also damaging
if people are choosing to zap all of the air defenses, doesn't that make them strong? if you choose to zap all of the air defenses with 12 zaps, you now have to do the rest of your attack with basically no spells.

they are not bad at all. Firstly, e drags are really base dependent, with a decent base you will evade any attempts of 3 starring from enemy e drag attacks. Wondering why pros dont spam e drags? They suck against actual good bases. Secondly, air defenses play a role not also in dealing damage but LURING the lava hounds to an no-so-great spot. This means that if you want to do a blizzard for example, and the air defenses are away from the th, you will not be able to get your blimp in the th, which means that your heroes have to take it (from a lalo perspective) since ballons are really vulnerable to the th defense. Finally, if, as you say, just use all your spells to blast through the AD's you will have to do an attack with little to no spells, which means that your troops become really vulnerable to heavier defenses like infernos, scatters etc...
So i dont see where they are weak, they are certainly helpfull since you need to work around them or use tons of spells for them. (also using zaps for AD's doesnt work on a high level thats why you dont see anyone doing it in tournaments).
also another note, in higher th your AD's start to 2 shot ballons. This shows how the damage ratio that they receive is really good compared to what ballons get.

one more thing is, at around th 10 or 11 I forgot, basically when you can use a max earthquake spell, instead of 3 zap per AD, you can use 2 zap and an earthquake and produce the same result, heck if they're inside the earthquake range, you can took out 2 AD with just 5 spell slot rather than 6, saving the other 5 for either full zaps again or something like rage or freeze to help with tactical situation
Since hero equipment update, I have started using dragons again . I use giant arrow to destroy 2 air defence and remaining with lightning, and boom you will win
Air defenses are not useless, people using all their spells to destroy only 4 buildings instead of having rages or freezing spells means they are so valuable the attacker finds it worth it to attack without spells just to remove them from the equation

I actually dont mind E-Dragons. I don't find them overpowered like people say it is, the reason why is because most E-Drags attacks ive seen always gets 1 star and 2 stars, especially in home base and the 3 star attacks is because the base they're attacking is either rushed or a th lower than them. The only thing i hate about E-Drags is my clanmates using it on war and getting the most painful looking 2 stars ive ever seen

The only use for air defenses at this point is to use their spells up so your key defenses aren't hit instead. That's weird though cause people lightning the defense but it's considered useless. If it's actually useless than you can ignore it. They do a considerable amount of damage so they aren't really as useless as you suggest. That'd be like saying a cat is weak because a dog can kill it easily. They're just facing an overpowered strategy.
TBH, Air defense is the second highest DPS building in home village the first being the single Inferno Tower. Having 600 DPS on max level with high range is what makes this building a threat to most air units and its also vulnerable by few lightning spells and swarms due to its low HP. I could say that Air defense is useful and important since it is OP on lower town halls.
The air defence is top 5 ish best defences as it deals insane damage to air troops, the only good point there was is that there is lava hounds which are built for air defences and this is needed to stop the air defences from being overly powerful and dominant

I think they should give air defense splash since it is a firework after all, doesnt need to be something big, maybe does like a quarter of the normal damage it does to troops that get hit by it, so like if it does 100 dmg it would deal 25 to splashed troops and 100 to the troop its targetting if that makes sense

after 7 years of not playing the game, ive rushed my townhall to lvl 13, the first defence ive upgraded to max were the 4 air defences, ive never been 3 starred by dragons/edrags since.
So the main problem for low th is the lack of base building capabilities lol. As long as u get attacked by same th's.
I'm TH14, I use e-drags, it's pretty op. I average on 2* 85%. I use 9 e-drags, 6 balloons and 11 bat spells, in CC I have battle drill, super dragon, balloon, rage and freeze spell. I use bat spells to destroy artilerry (there must be no multi targer infernos, scattershots or wizard towers in reach, then I place drill and champion together, ballons, e-drags and all three heroes in one line or around one corner. I use freeze for annoying defences or TH, rage to increase damage and warden to use make them imortal while destroing TH.

Normally I agree with your videos or at least find them informative. But I disagree with this one. I've had many air attacks destroyed because I didn't target air defenses. I've also won multiple defenses because the attacker ignores or fails to funnel towards the air defense. Actually I end up using ground army's because I don't want to deal with it at all.
imo air defenses are pretty balanced, of course signature defenses are stronger than it because signature defenses are key defenses while air defenses are stronger cannons for air troops. plus if you ignore them it becomes a huge problem so it doesn't need a damage buff. air defenses aren't meant to be special it meant to be a way to defend against air troops like cannons

i bloody agree seriously i always max out my air defence to the highest possible for my hall but EVERYTIME even against a STUPID DRAGON and a bunch of air balloons it either doesnt do enough damage or simply just sucks since it gets rushed to easily seriously it should have a hard buff on its hp and minor buff on its damage and honestly it shoots fireworks so it should deal splash damage to encourage players to not cram 723847618726498176 air balloons in one place

Air defenses on higher TH are like cannons or archer towers and function as a frontier defenses. They're here to make the attack difficult to go to the center.
This video is just wrong. As a dedicated Disfunctional fan, I must rectify some of his mistakes. I am sorry if this sounds too harsh. The fact that you have to use all of your spell slots to take them down makes them useful. You can also take down the Eagle Artillery and the Monolith with lightning spell. Does that make them useless? No! They are quite useful. And the fact that there is a specific troop (lava hound) which counters the air defense makes them even more special! There is also the headhunter which targets heroes. Does that make heros useless? No! (upgrading heroes is useless, heroes themselves are a core part of an attack) If there is any circumstance where any air defenses are left, they are an absolute nightmare! In th 4, that is more of a game balancing issue than an air defense issue. In th7, well dragons are just too OP. You can't really stop them at all. Every defense struggles to defend them. You wouldn't really call the archer towers "useless" if they can't stop dragons. The air sweepers themselves are not OP, the air sweepers paired with other defenses, especially the air defense is OP. What is the air sweeper gonna do on its own? Push the troops? That would at max cause a time fail. I completely disagree with you at the end. The air defense are absolutely the best against air troops. You HAVE to have air defenses at max level to have a shot at defending your base. You at least have a chance of defending if they are maxed. You have 0% chance of defending if they are low level. In conclusion, the air defenses are a core part of the base, just like the cannons, archer towers, wizard towers, x-bows, inferno towers, eagle artillery, scattershots and monolith.
I don’t take lightening in my army because of blimp so even today Air Defence is a threat so I usually use giant arrow to destroy at least two of them

I say more health and multy targets as you level them up, max 3 targets when maxed, no idea when do extra targets come, but at 11-13 should be at least 2 per air defense.
